Suizi hadn’t expected that the rich woman would be Chen Lijun.

She stood there stunned for a moment, her eyes darting back and forth between Chen Lijun and Yu Jingting.

Just as engrossed in pleasing his mother-in-law, Yu Jingting hadn’t expected his wife to actually come over.

It wasn’t until the match in his hand scorched his fingers that he flicked it away, not even bothering to yelp in pain, anxiously watching his pregnant wife slowly advancing toward him.

Chen Lijun’s gaze remained locked on Suizi, noting the girl’s radiant complexion. It was clear that she was well taken care of, and her belly had grown significantly since the New Year. However, something unsettling lurked behind her facial expression.

"Aren’t you going to soothe her?" Chen Lijun glanced at Yu Jingting.

Yu Jingting was utterly stunned at this point, unable to shake off the awkward smile on his face that betrayed his unease. He temporarily shelved his efforts to appease his mother-in-law.

He tactically took three steps back, maintaining a distance from Chen Lijun, acting as if they hardly knew each other.

Suizi’s surprise was now shifting into anger. Her narrowed eyes, filled with murderous intent, unnerved Yu Jingting, causing him to swallow nervously.

"Come over and eat something, sweetheart... ha ha." His voice trembled on the last two laughs.

Chen Lijun arched an eyebrow. She had never seen this little scamp so timid before.

His audacity had always been startling, willing to do what others wouldn’t dare, but, apparently, he found something to fear too.

"Are you afraid of your wife? Our Suizi here is a good-tempered girl. You don’t need to look so terrified."

"Who’s afraid, ha ha..." Yu Jingting pulled out a cigarette stick, threw it in the air, and nimbly caught it between his teeth.

His swaggering cigarette puffing made him look like the reigning ruffian of their village, akin to the old ’Boss’.

If it weren’t for the noticeable shaking of his hand while lighting up the stick, Chen Lijun would have been mistaken into thinking he really wasn’t scared.

"Is the hot pot tasty?" Clamping down on impulse to stare at Chen Lijun, Suizi turned to Yu Jingting and asked casually.

Despite his efforts to appear calm, the mini storm brewing inside of Yu Jingting was anything but.

Damn this restaurant! Why does it have to have a waitstaff?

And why does it have to serve food?

How perfect it would be if it was just the two of them. However, he knew he had to maintain his dignity as a man.

"The meat’s not exactly tender, not as good as what we get back home." After an attempt to smooth things out, he broke his facade in the next sentence, "Suizi, I swear I don’t know her well, we just happened to bump into each other!"

"Oh? It seemed like you were rather close just now, calling her ’Mom’. Did everyone hear that?" Chen Lijun turned to ask the keenly watching waitstaff.

The waiters all nodded in unison; Yes, they’d all heard it loud and clear.

This young man’s calling of ’Mom’ was crisp and loud.

Two waiters whispered to each other.

"The mother secretly brought her son to eat hot pot and got caught by her daughter-in-law."

"I wouldn’t be able to bear it either. The mother-in-law goes out for hot pot with the husband but leaves out the wife - that’s not treating her like family at all."

The whispered rumors reached Suizi’s ears, fueling her anger even more.

Chen Lijun and Yu Jingting seemed like intimate mother and son, and she was the subject of ridicule!

"Mom, smoking is harmful to health, I’m just considering it for your sake. I’ll get you a couple of cartons to smoke freely when I get back, I’m going after Suizi now."

Talking tough, acting cool, and taking a hard beating, the men of Dongbei have never been afraid of anyone.

Chen Lijun was amused by his shameless manner.

"Wife, it’s cold outside, why don’t you have some lamb before leaving?" Yu Jingting pulled at Suizi’s hand.

Suizi casually grabbed a plate of cabbage from the next table and slapped it on his face.

"Go eat a leg!"

The customers at the next table: ???

What happened to our cabbage whilst we were enjoying the show?!

"Ask the woman at the next table to compensate us!" Suizi pointed in Chen Lijun’s direction, taking this opportunity to really look at Chen Lijun.
