I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 176: Why are you pulling my ear?

Chapter 176: Chapter 176: Why are you pulling my ear?

When Wang Mengmeng paid another visit to Suizi’s house, she was stunned by the scene inside.

"What...?!"

The house was still a small, dilapidated dwelling when she was there this morning.

The ramshackle bed Yu Jingting had brought back - the headboard was even rotten, she saw it herself.

Upon returning to Suizi’s room, it was completely transformed.

The spongy headboard had been stripped off by Suizi, replaced with a foam board. It was covered with homegrown cotton and a floral case was sewn over it, making it look like a brand-new cloth-embellished bed.

With gloves on, Suizi meticulously wiped the bed frame a few times with alcohol for disinfection and cleanliness, which she then made up with her own mattress pad. Impeccable.

Wang Mengmeng thought about her own bed at home, a sea of wrinkles, swallowing hard.

She had never seen a bed made so neatly before, with the quilt folded so precisely.

The aroma of tea filled the room. Suizi had brewed some hot tea for Yu Jingting, who was busy outside fixing the furniture, to ease his exhaustion.

Yu Jingting was outside fixing a cupboard.

Wang Mengmeng took a special look at the cupboard when it was brought in. It was doodled with children’s graffiti and the mirror on it was broken.

In less than half an afternoon, Yu Jingting had sanded and polished the cupboard body again, removed the broken mirror, and replaced it with a new one.

Yu Jingting bought the mirror with his own money, then borrowed a glass cutter from the hardware store showcasing his powerful DIY skills.

Having stuck around in the Wang residence feeling depressed and restless with an overabundance of energy and nowhere to channel it, ended up chopping wood.

Now, he found a good outlet.

With a ’ding dong’ sound throughout the afternoon, he almost finished repairing the cupboard.

Just as Wang Mengmeng was marvelling at this couple who appeared to be deity incarnates, Yu Jingting called for Suizi.

"Pretty much done."

Suizi went out to look and was quite satisfied.

The once messy cupboard had been sanded smooth, only a few places where impacts and scrapes were too severe and were impossible to sand down.

"Bring me my painting supplies."

Suizi instructed Yu Jingting, and soon her painting tools were brought to her.

Under the gaze of Wang Mengmeng and the clumsy Principal fixing the glass next door, Suizi dabbled her brush and a chic, free-flowing Chinese character for ’divine’ appeared on the cupboard’s body.

One character took up the entire cupboard door, beautifully vibrant, just enough to cover all the scratches.

After she finished, the entire cupboard was filled with an artistic atmosphere, far from its original look.

"Where did these two come from.... "The Principal was firstly stunned by Yu Jingting’s cupboard repair, then astonished by Suizi’s calligraphy.

Such brilliance in this young girl’s calligraphy.

The Principal thought about removing the one hanging in his office.

It’s not that he was ignorant of good things, but when compared Suizi’s, his looked elementary school level.

Remembering how Suizi complimented his writing in the office, the Principal suspected that she might have used irony on him. He had no proof, though.

"Once the ink dries completely, we can stand the cupboard up and bring it into the room."

Suizi looked at her masterpiece, a collaborate effort with Yu Jingting, with great satisfaction.

Home is a place marked with personal touches. Being able to create something together with him was a joy.

"Hey, you, come and help me install this piece of glass!" The Principal had been instructing for quite a while, his hands froze without managing to install the glass.

Seeing how efficiently Yu Jingting was working, the Principal wanted his help.

"Don’t know how." Yu Jingting left these curt words and went to drink tea in the room.

Suizi showed the Principal a courteous smile with no hint of sincerity:

"My husband only knows a little carpentry. He can’t do things like installing glass."

The Principal’s gaze landed on the newly fitted mirror on the cupboard— isn’t fixing a mirror more difficult than glass?

This couple, their eyes wide open telling untruths, were their statements so darn consistent?

Wang Mengmeng wanted to join them in the room. As she was about to step in, Yu Jingting shut the door right in her face.

"We’re about to eat, let’s talk about business tomorrow."

Wang Mengmeng was stunned by such a blunt rejection, as she had never been refused in such a manner, was about to say something, when she heard a clatter coming from the Principal’s side.

It was so cold, his hand was stiff, he couldn’t hold the glass, and it shattered again...

Then Wang Mengmeng remembered.

Yu Jingting liked to smash glasses, this family is not to be trifled with.

Hearing the Principal muttering and grumbling, Wang Mengmeng murmured softly.

"This courtyard is going to get lively."

Her nose twitched twice, as if she had caught a whiff of something really delicious.

"Principal, are you stewing meat at your place?"

"Stew what meat, I’m too upset for that!" The Principal was almost worried sick over the scattered glass shards on the floor.

After sniffing around, Wang Mengmeng finally confirmed that the delicious scent was coming from Suizi’s closed door.

"They’re eating alone with the door shut... well, good on them." Wang Mengmeng said, swallowing her saliva and went back to her room, feeling unjustified and indignant.

Eating pickles delivered by Suizi with a steamed bun, while complaining about the narrow-mindedness of country folks eating alone... What was the neighbor eating that smelled so delicious?

"I’m on a diet, I can’t eat anymore." Suizi kept muttering while eating smoked meat.

Yu Jingting was used to her saying one thing but meaning another. While she was busy talking, he was busy adding food to her plate.

The two of them had been busy all day and hadn’t had time to cook. They bought pancakes from outside, ordered two dishes, and with the smoked meat they brought from home, the first meal in their new home was simple but not simplistic.

"These two colleagues of yours aren’t very decent."

Yu Jingting had only met them briefly, but he had already figured out what kind of people they were.

Let’s not talk about the Principal who wore his lascivious intentions on his face.

That woman was always trying to get a free ride and always sneaking into other people’s houses.

"This is how educated city folk behave?"

"You’ll get used to it. Whether it’s city folk or country folk, they’re all people, and nobody’s perfect, everyone has their quirks."

They’re both neighbors and colleagues, as long as they could get along superficially, it was enough. Suizi didn’t have high hopes of being close friends with them.

Suizi looked at Yu Jingting, hesitating to say something.

She wanted to ask if he felt out of place.

In terms of living standards, city people are only slightly better off than those in the countryside.

At this point, everyone’s life was in a tight spot, and if you were to tally it up, the food in the countryside was actually more plentiful.

But the difference in lifestyle gives some low-quality individuals a sense of superiority.

Suizi took the Principal’s condescending remarks seriously that morning.

She didn’t care what the Principal said about her, but she did get upset when she heard him talk about Yu Jingting.

Earlier when the Principal asked Yu Jingting for help, Suizi didn’t urge Yu Jingting to agree.

Yu Jingting moved to the city for her sake.

Suizi was afraid he wasn’t adjusting well and even more afraid of hurting his male pride.

"This bed is sturdy." Yu Jingting patted the bed in satisfaction after eating his fill.

"Yeah, it’s really nice," Suizi said, thinking about how to break the ice with him.

"No matter how much you toss and turn, it doesn’t make a sound."

"Huh—Huh?" It seemed like there was something wrong?

Yu Jingting rested his head on her belly, answering his own question:

"Babe, what do you need daddy for? Oh, curious about our new home? Don’t worry, when your mom is done eating, daddy will come in and tell you all about it—hey, why are you pulling my ear? It’s our child asking for me!"

Suizi felt ashamed of her previous overthinking.

With his thick skin, robust survival skills, and consistently strong instincts, how could he possibly feel out of place!

Watching Suizi’s face turn red, Yu Jingting smirked and pulled out a fun little trick from his pocket. Look what this is!
