Chapter 667: 658, Surprise_1

While Zhang Ming was planning the crew’s itinerary, Ren He was also planning his own journey.

That night, after his close encounter with the police car, he plunged into the desert and managed to make his way through the wilderness to another national highway.

Mainly because Ren He didn’t want to deal with the police at such a time. If he were to be stopped for a routine check, it would be really troublesome as he wouldn’t be able to explain many things clearly.

Plus, there were numerous checkpoints on his return to the mainland, and Ren He wasn’t sure he could safely bring those items back. However, he had spent a lot of money on them, and it would be too troubling to send them back unused.

The gun was almost identical to the one he had used in New York, and he had an attachment to it. Keeping it as his collection was also a very good choice.

The key issue was how to transport these guns back. If the police found them, wouldn’t they call in the armed police to surround him?

He made a call to Steve, but even Steve said they had no capability to transport such military goods within China. Ren He figured that probably foreign powers did indeed have limited reach within Chinese borders.

Having no other options, Ren He eventually couldn’t figure out how to transport the items to the mainland. It would be too petty to bother Sir Yang with such a matter; after all, he was always concerned with national affairs. To trouble him with this trivial matter would be inviting discomfort, wouldn’t it?

However, just as he left the territory of XJ and arrived in QH, Yang Xi suddenly called him, "Grandpa had uncle bring a box, but uncle said, ’This is a gift from Grandpa. But now that it’s peace time, it’s better to just keep and appreciate these kinds of things. He also mentioned that you’re now the helmsman of an Internet Empire, and you should not indulge in fighting and killing. If you’re really interested, you could train in the army.’ Ren He, tell me honestly, what are you doing over there?"

Ren He was ecstatic, "Nothing, nothing, haha. Keep the gun for me!"

He clearly understood this meant Sir Yang indirectly let him know that Sir Yang was aware of what happened in Karamay. However, it was fine, just that he should not engage in such activities in the future.

Besides, Sir Yang had intentions of having him join the army. It was mainly up to Ren He himself. If he truly could enter and gain experience from the military, perhaps in a decade or so, the Yang family could once again produce a towering figure.

But Ren He had no interest in this suggestion. Joining the military meant he wouldn’t be able to see Yang Xi for a long time. How could this work?

He knew Sir Yang, a bigwig who had come out of the military, admired his massacre in New York. To be honest, there are so many people in China that everyone feels sharpshooters and special forces are as common as sand, practically given away for free.

This is true indeed. During official military competitions, as long as the ranks weren’t bought, these were truly strong warriors.

Still, how many could single-handedly battle a complete CIA combat team abroad and come out on top? They were rare as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns.

It wasn’t that Ren He could raise havoc in Heavenly Palace or anything, but Sir Yang just liked his character and abilities. Didn’t Sir Yang himself say it? He wanted to be a sharpshooter, but it didn’t happen.

Who knows whether, after achieving success and fame, Sir Yang has truly let go of his youthful dreams?

This is unrelated to maturity; it’s the dream of youthful vigour and ambition.

"Where are you now?" Yang Xi asked on the phone.

"I’ve just entered the borders of QH and plan to visit North Fort Film City in NX, where A Chinese Odyssey is set to be filmed. Right now, Director Zhang and his crew are shooting ’No Man’s Land’, and in two months they’ll head to North Fort Film City. By then, I’ll be shooting A Chinese Odyssey during the day and working on post-production for No Man’s Land at night. Director Zhang is working like a madman; it’s really admirable..." Ren He had heard Zhang Ming was a workaholic, but only after experiencing it firsthand did he realize the extent of it.

"What about me?" As soon as Yang Xi heard that Ren He had no plans to return to the Capital, her tone turned frosty, "I’ve been playing Dota alone for half a month now!"

"You should come to North Fort! Let’s rent a house outside, buy two computers," Ren He said quickly, laughing as he sensed her change of tone, "I’ve been planning it for a while. You haven’t had a chance to go out and play for a long time, it’s time to relax!"

"Been planning it for a while?" Yang Xi’s voice was doubtful on the phone, "I feel like you’ve just been running wild over there!"

"Pfft, no, not at all. Just book your flight, and I’ll pick you up at NX airport," Ren He responded cheerily.

"Hmm, no, I won’t go. Just testing you. Take care of yourself over there. The air is dry, so remember to drink lots of water. The weather forecast mentioned a cold front passing through the northwest region in a few days, bringing rain, so remember to dress warm..." Yang Xi rattled off a long list of concerns, sounding like a wife checking in on her husband before finally saying, "Let me know when you get to NX."

"Sure, I’ll check in with you," Ren He felt warmth in his heart; being cared for was truly a nice feeling.

From QH to NX, Ren He took the Lanxi Expressway and Beijing-Tibet Expressway, passing through Lanzhou and then heading north to NX, which would take roughly 8 hours, or 7 if he drove fast.

There was no rush for Ren He; he was heading to NX just to see what the legendary film city was really like.

In his previous life, Gu Changwei had made a film specifically about the bitter and challenging lives of extras at Hengdian Film City. Just a while back, Master Li had shared with them how he had slowly made his way up in Hengdian.

Every day, the place witnessed the joys and sorrows of the underdogs, some arriving with hope and others leaving with their dreams crushed.

It was a true furnace, where everyone was tested and tempered.

Ren He found it very interesting. In his previous life, he had contemplated visiting Hengdian, even just to experience life, but he never did go. So he wanted to check out the place where the underdogs struggled before the A Chinese Odyssey crew got to North Fort Film City.

hours later, Ren He’s car slowly entered the toll station, and he called Yang Xi, "I’ve arrived at NX, just checking in with you."

"Look forward, look forward," Yang Xi cheered on the phone, and when Ren He looked up, to his surprise, Yang Xi was standing by the roadside outside the toll booth, phone in one hand and waving excitedly with the other.

She had plainly said she wouldn’t come, yet there she was, having flown in to give him a huge surprise!
