Chapter 591: 585, first visit_1

Yan Xiaoxu, although shocked to learn that the Knight was the big boss of Qinghe Group, was even more regretful about the salary he had proposed. How could he not have heard of how wealthy Qinghe Group was now?

His hometown was Chengdu, and just last month, Qinghe Group had acquired a large piece of land there; the deal had been the talk of Chengdu for two days.

In his heart, Yan Xiaoxu wondered, could he say that 500,000 was the standard for a monthly salary?! However, he knew that it was a done deal and that it’d be better to discuss it in the future...

Being able to pilot a plane for the Knight and witnessing the birth of one record after another was indeed a big deal. Yan Xiaoxu felt exhilarated even thinking about it. Moreover, the Knight’s future challenges must be focused on the skies; why else would he buy a plane and employ pilots?

The dinner that night did not last long, as there was Yan Xiaoxu, whose background everyone was still a bit unclear about, so everyone was more careful with their words.

After dinner, Liu Erbao and An Si joined Ren He in his suite to continue drinking, and they ordered some appetizers from the hotel.

In the middle of the night, Ren He, slightly drunk, stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, peering through the gap in the curtains at the splendid night view of Chongqing and thinking that in life, having a few good friends to drink with was a blessing.

They didn’t talk about interests, or futures, just relaxed and easy.

Early the next morning, Ren He and Yang Xi took a flight back to the Capital. Although Sir Yang had said Ren He could set the time, out of courtesy, he couldn’t delay too long. Saying next week meant Monday was the most appropriate, which was the day after tomorrow.

Yang Xi did tell Ren He a bit about Sir Yang’s personality: not mean, not rigid, without an overly strong desire to control his children, except for one thing—he didn’t quite agree with his children entering the entertainment industry, but he had never used his power to stop them.

As for the rest, Yang Xi wasn’t sure, as the younger members of the family still liked to flock around their grandfather.

Ren He nodded. Yang Xi and the others hadn’t had the chance to touch on the core of the Yang Family, so not knowing was quite normal. But considering the enormity of the Yang Family’s business, even though Yang En’s place of residence in Luo City wasn’t impressive, looking at Yang En’s house in the Capital, it was one of the best locations with one of the finest Courtyard Houses, indicating that Yang En wasn’t lacking money at all.

In such a large family, it was normal for one or two pillars to support the family’s economy. Ren He wondered what sectors the Yang Family controlled.

In the deep autumn, Uncle Fang had knocked down the walnuts in the courtyard; green walnuts had to be stripped of their outer husk. Uncle Fang first sliced off the husk with a knife, soaked them all in water, and then scrubbed them clean with a brush. Only then did they become the pristine walnuts available on the market, ready to be dried.

The green walnut husk contained a lot of juice that could damage the skin during peeling, staining hands black if touched. Before Ren He went to Chongqing, Uncle Fang’s hands were always black...

He was going to meet Sir Yang tomorrow; what gift should he bring?

Should it be a bag of walnuts or some antique? Yang Xi was also unsure about this—she had no experience with giving or receiving such gifts. But what she did suggest was, don’t make it too expensive, because she would feel bad and they still had a life to lead...

Ren He found it somewhat amusing and exasperating. Was it said that a married daughter was like spilled water? And now she was starting to worry about her family’s money?! The key point was that there was no lack of money, for heaven’s sake.

But in the end, Ren He decided to bring a bag of walnuts as a gift. This meeting might have to do with the equity trade of Qinghe Group, so the choice of gift had to be considered carefully.

The next day, Ren He drove to Hongkong, where Sir Yang lived.

Before, when Yang Xi mentioned that Sir Yang’s courtyard was huge, Ren He had no real concept of it, but only after actually arriving did he realize just how big it was!

My Courtyard House spans 1700 square meters, which counts as one of the largest in the city center. The Yang’s place doesn’t quite qualify as a Courtyard House; it’s more likely a plot they acquired and built on later. Ren He roughly estimated that it might cover over 5000 square meters.

Never mind anything else, even if the Yang family were to fall from grace, wouldn’t just this piece of land be enough to ensure their descendants live without worry for a hundred years?

When they entered, someone was there to greet them—a sweet, little girl around ten who called Yang Xi ’Aunt.’ Ren He was dumbfounded. Yang Xi was an aunt now?

However, the entrance to the house wasn’t as heavily guarded as he had imagined. There were two soldiers standing guard at the door, and Ren He could tell at a glance that their firearms weren’t just for show.

But they didn’t obstruct their way. Yang Xi said she came back often and never had to undergo any sort of inspection.

Ren He thought that if a family member had to be searched when coming home, what would be the point of calling it a home?

As they walked into the courtyard where the car was parked, Ren He suddenly noticed someone observing him. It was two young men. Yang Xi explained softly that they were her two older brothers, who were about to graduate from People’s University.

Ren He had thought that now as half a son-in-law to the Yang family, there might be some drama about someone looking down on him after entering the house...

However, it turned out that there wasn’t...

Yang Xi’s brothers came up warmly, taking the big bag of walnuts from Ren He’s hands and said with a smile, "Sir Yang has been craving walnuts these past few days; you’re so thoughtful."

Ren He was puzzled again. How could he have known that Sir Yang wanted to eat walnuts? And for the wealthy Yang family, buying some walnuts wouldn’t be a problem at all, right? Ren He couldn’t figure out if they were making polite conversation or speaking in earnest.

Walking deeper into the courtyard, Ren He realized that Sir Yang had seven sons, including Yang En, and two daughters!

So many...

Then Ren He understood from the two brothers’ conversation that the family would probably all come over today to get a look at what Yang Xi’s boyfriend was really like...

"Don’t worry. Everyone is just genuinely curious... By the way, why haven’t you uploaded any new videos lately? Busy with school?" Yang Cheng curiously asked.

"Our younger generation has heard about how you pursued Yang Xi across great distances, from Beijing No.4 High School to Juilliard School of Music. It’s rare to see Aunt Su Ruqin lose her temper like that. Usually, she has us well-disciplined. You really avenged us!" Another named Yang Ling said with a laugh.

Ren He had never expected the topic of conversation to be this, and he was genuinely afraid that Su Ruqin might suddenly pop up and hear these words. If that happened, he would be in deep trouble!

After finally reaching a peaceful coexistence with his mother-in-law, he didn’t want to stir up any trouble again. To put it bluntly, the results he now enjoyed had been hard-won in America.

Thinking of how he could now live with Yang Xi, Ren He felt that risking his life in New York had been worth it...

...

I’ve come down with a high fever today and barely managed to get this Chapter out. I apologize to everyone and will make it up later.
