Chapter 456: 450, The Sorrow of Sudden Storms (First Update)_1

When Yang En and the others saw the news that the young professor had reposted his new song online and was also going to hold a concert, they were shocked and exchanged bewildered looks!

Lin Hao gasped, "Could it be that the person that night wasn’t him? Otherwise, how could he be so calm as to create new music and even hold a concert?"

In their minds, a teenager who had sniper-killed so many people that evening would instinctively hide until the dust settled. Yet Ren He didn’t do that; instead, he brazenly came out, intentionally drawing widespread attention.

And what’s with holding a concert, anyway?

"Could it be possible that he really isn’t the sniper? After all, we’ve never seen a 17-year-old play a sniper like that, and his past experiences don’t include any real combat," Monkey sighed: "Even if he did, think about our own first kills, how did we react? I couldn’t sleep at all for two whole days, and that should be considered pretty good, right?"

"I threw up for two days, I shot someone in the head at close range, and I felt sick to my stomach..." Wang reminisced with a sigh.

"So now, thinking about it, was that sniper really him? It doesn’t seem logical to me, how old is he?" Monkey continued his analysis.

Lin Hao was the first to confirm Ren He as the sniper, but upon further reflection, sniper training takes much longer than other military branches, and Ren He didn’t even have the chance to train. How could he possibly be the sniper?

But for some reason, he always felt that the young man was constantly creating miracles, and he had interacted with Ren He the most within Skydrive, so he subconsciously believed that it was very likely that the other party was indeed the sniper.

However, now that he heard everyone else’s analysis, it indeed seemed improbable that it was Ren He, and if one had killed so many people, they definitely wouldn’t be in the mood to hold a concert.

So, who was the sniper?

Also, what was Ren He up to by holding a concert at this time?

Yang En had been silent all along, when he suddenly spoke, "Could it be that he can’t reach us, so he’s using this method to tell us that he’s already returned?"

"Hey, that’s really possible," Wang realized: "Otherwise, it makes no sense to hold a concert at this time, right? Does he want us to find him? After all, Yang’s daughter can no longer return to the country through normal channels, so he must find a way to contact us."

"I think that’s very likely," Lin Hao said seriously: "Whether he’s the sniper or not, to be honest, the most important thing for us to do right now is to send Yang Xi back to the country first. We can’t let a young girl take risks with us here, it’s not what men should be doing."

As they were discussing, Lin Hao turned to Monkey and asked, "When do we have a chance to go back? The people from the New York Consulate will pick up Yang on Friday night, and he will be safe. In fact, we had a chance that night. We will leave with the transport vehicle at 11 p.m. sharp, and during that time, there will be security personnel we’ve previously bribed to let us through. We will smuggle into Mexico via the interstate 8 highway in the small border town of Douglas, Arizona, and our people will be there to meet us. Once we leave the US, it will be very safe—actually, that route is pretty safe in itself. We should also leave soon; if we don’t, we’ll be in danger."

"The same Friday? The concert is also on Friday?" Lin Hao paused and said: "Then let’s meet up with Ren He and Yang Xi and leave that evening. That seems like the best plan. Monkey, go to the concert and bring him and Yang Xi back. I don’t even know where he’s hiding her."

"All right, let’s decide on that for now. We’ll act on Friday night," Lin Hao confirmed. This time, he was the overall commander. They had already lost a comrade and couldn’t afford any more sacrifices.

Yang En obtained the information quite smoothly this time. If Ren He were there, he would know that the intelligence they intercepted was indeed related to the Prism program, but in actual detail, it was not as comprehensive as what Ren He knew, after all, in a former life, it was a security consultant who personally leaked the information, whereas now it was just basic intelligence.

After Yang En was safe, it was time for Lin Hao and the others to leave. The only unexpected event was the large-scale arrest operation that night; without that sniper, everyone might have ended up accounted for right there.

Who was that sniper?

Wang smiled and said, "Yang, after we leave, you have to take care of yourself. If it’s not necessary, don’t leave the consulate."

Yang En said in a deep voice, "Thank you all for your cooperation. I still have to entrust you with safely bringing Ren He and my daughter back to our country. Speaking of which, I feel somewhat sorry for my daughter. If it weren’t for this mess because of me, she’d still be able to continue her studies like a normal person."

"Ha-ha," Wang laughed, "If you ask me, once you’re in this business, you shouldn’t worry too much about these things. Didn’t you also not expect something like this to happen? When your predecessor was the ambassador, there were no problems, and if there were, the New York Consulate would intervene and solve them. But once it got to you, it became your problem. It’s just your bad luck."

Though they mentioned bad luck, everyone was actually quite resigned to it and had come to terms with the situation.

Now they just had to wait until the Friday evening concert started, when they could take advantage of the chaos afterward to whisk Ren He away. If there hadn’t been a concert, they really wouldn’t dare to get close to that apartment and the Juilliard School of Music. Skydrive had glanced at it from a distance and could tell at once some of the plainclothes officers in their sights.

Finally, it was time to leave the United States, and everyone could breathe a sigh of relief.

...

Because of the melancholic sounds in her dreams the past few days, Yang Xi decided to leave the third movement of the tragedy for the end.

As the piano sounds filled the air, Yang Xi felt as though she was back on that bloodstained night, with gunshots ringing out and lives fading away. Therefore, many in the audience felt that this tragedy seemed different from what they had heard online before...

The piano music descended like a fierce storm, and everyone felt as though they were on a battlefield, intense and bloody.

Hiding among the audience, Skydrive regretted having to spend 98 US Dollars to get in but was also moved by a certain power in the music... Suddenly, in a flash, Skydrive felt that the person on stage was the sniper from that night!

The intensity of this realization was so strong, but looking at the person in a suit playing the piano on stage, the contrast was too stark, making Skydrive feel a profound sense of unreality about the world.

However, now was not the time for such thoughts. Skydrive surveyed the surrounding audience carefully to determine if there were any undercover NSA agents present, and also to ensure Ren He’s safe evacuation at the end of the concert. Tonight at 11 o’clock was the time for their departure, and once the plan was set, no one could wait, not even if Skydrive didn’t return in time; they would have to continue hiding in the United States and find another chance to leave.

...

I’ll say a few words. There should be two more Chapters tonight, one guaranteed, and one as an extra for hitting the reward targets. As April 21st, my wedding date, approaches, I’m feeling a bit mixed with a lot happening all at once. At this point, even I think that managing to update consistently is pretty awesome... please understand.

Also, regarding recent plot discussions, I feel that describing it as an espionage thriller always makes it seem like I’m writing a script for resistance dramas. This isn’t espionage; it’s just a story about how awesome the protagonist is, alright...
