Chapter 450: 444, The Grim Reaper Descends (Fifth Update)_1
In the preceding second, Yang En and his team had just clashed with the combat group again, but the next second brought the sound of a handgun from the rooftop of the high building behind them. No one knew exactly what had happened up there, it only seemed like something had gone awry.
But all this happened in an instant. Monkey was puzzled, "Aren’t all of us here? Where did that gunshot come from?"
Lin Hao rolled his eyes, "How the hell would I know? Maybe they were bored and playing with a handgun? Junyi, give me a magazine."
By his side, the resolute Zhao Junyi threw Lin Hao a magazine. They were now at their wit’s end, their ammunition nearly depleted.
Everyone had been planning to make a final charge next, a fight to the death, but then this sudden change had occurred!
"Who cares what happened, we all know very well that on American soil, we have no reinforcements," Lin Hao said with a smile, "Are we all ready?"
"Haha, ready!" Wang also laughed.
Finally, Lin Hao put away his smiling face and spoke seriously, "It’s been great getting to know you all. If fate allows, let’s drink together again in 18 years."
"Alright!"
Outside their cover, the combat group’s commander heard the gunshot from the rooftop and instinctively turned to look, just in time to see Ren He, under the faint moonlight, standing on the edge of the rooftop, lifting his gun and aiming in a fluid motion. The commander couldn’t make out Ren He’s face from the distance, but he was certain the figure was not one of his snipers—first off, the attire was completely different!
The commander suddenly felt a chill in his heart as he sensed a distinctly different aura emanating from the distant figure, like a dragon soaring into the ink-black sky.
Amid his aim, Ren He saw the commander starting to evade and the corners of his mouth quietly lifted.
Bang!
Death had arrived!
The commander exploded in a puff of blood mist and flew backward as he was the first hit by the bullet, and with a sniper rifle shot, there was absolutely no chance of survival.
The large and slender bullet spiraled into his body, tearing apart everything it could!
Behind their cover, both Monkey and Lin Hao were startled by the sudden sniper rifle sound that followed the handgun. What was going on?
Risking his neck, Monkey peeked out and saw the command group’s officer already shot and on the ground, with a massive gunshot hole in his chest leaking fresh blood—he was clearly dead!
He cried out in alarm, "The sniper has committed fratricide and killed their commander!"
"Impossible, it definitely isn’t fratricide. Someone must have helped us by taking over the sniper point!" Lin Hao swiftly judged.
The enemy was the elite of the military contractors; there was no way such a thing as fratricide could happen between them. And a misfired shot causing this was even less likely unless the sniper had taken drugs before the operation tonight!
But how could that be!
"All of our people are here. Where would reinforcements come from? I think this is too far-fetched," Monkey exclaimed in amazement.
Reinforcements... Where would they come from? They were all well aware that their undercover agents in New York City were all here at this moment; how could there be any reinforcements? It was one thing to deceive others, but quite another to deceive themselves!
But how could they explain the gunshot?
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The muffled sounds of the sniper rifle tore through the quiet night sky again and again, each shot resulting in a member of the combat team falling dead, their rhythm as steady as the grim reaper knocking!
Fast, too fast!
Ordinary snipers would need to switch targets in their scopes after completing a kill. Even though this sniper rifle was semi-automatic, the issue was it seemed as if the sniper didn’t need to think before firing the next shot. They had never heard such a rhythm before; it was too fast!
The remaining 21 combatants rapidly retreated westward, back to where they had first appeared, an area that might shield them from the sniper’s line of sight.
But the shots were too fast, and before they could cover half the distance, 8 had already fallen!
The surviving members of the combat team were ecstatic inside, knowing that the sniper rifle had only 10 rounds. Two had been fired earlier and eight now, so it was time. The grim reaper above had to reload!
Reloading didn’t take very long, nor was it too short but it was enough time for everyone to run dozens of meters. And they all ran fast!
This time, a good number of the team could make it out alive!
However, moments later—Bang! Bang! Bang!
The gunshots rang out again, and everyone was in despair. What was going on? That reloading was way too fast! This was a sniper rifle!
The young man holding the gun on the rooftop was like death incarnate, claiming one life after another with every shot. And in Ren He’s eyes, there was neither pity nor rage, only calm.
The reason he fired his gun was simple—for his own survival, nothing more than the most basic principle of living.
So he had to shoot.
The situation had completely flipped. The crazy little chess piece had redefined the day with the most explosive means. The well-organized combat team crumbled and retreated, not even knowing if they’d live another second.
Because his marksmanship was too accurate.
From over four hundred meters away, each gunshot from that blurry figure claimed another life, without exception.
Keep in mind, they were not stationary targets but were moving at high speeds, making evasive maneuvers!
Even the finest snipers in the military wouldn’t dare say they could hit every shot here. How could they?
But now, the power over their lives was in someone else’s hands.
General.
Indeed, a General.
They had no power to fight back; a mysterious master sniper had appeared. How did such a person enter the country?!
Behind the cover, Lin Hao and the others watched with wide eyes as one by one, their comrades fell and retreated, leaving behind one corpse after another. When they finally left the sniper’s field of view, of the original twenty-plus, only three remained. They dared not look back as they retreated into the darkness.
It was an almost total wipeout!
Lin Hao and the others looked up to see the rooftop silhouette pocket the rifle, turn around, and walk away. The figure disappeared into the bloody, black night like a night owl, with no intention of facing them...
"Who the hell is this guy?" Wang exclaimed in amazement. "Even Eagle’s shooting wasn’t this damn good!"
"Without a single miss, terrifying. This person’s sniping capability is at its peak. I just don’t know how good he is at extreme ranges, but I’m sure he’s notable within 800 meters," Zhao Junyi analyzed calmly.
"I thought we had no reinforcements. Are there still brothers outside?"
"No more, and even if there were, no one has such marksmanship."
Lin Hao, who had been silent, suddenly remembered a boy who told him to take care—somehow, a vague intuition directed him towards that truth, and that person always seemed to surprise others.
He suddenly spoke out with a grave voice, "No, there’s one person not here!"
Everyone was stunned. "Who? Don’t tell me it’s Lu lying on the ground. We’ll take his body on the truck and go soon. We can’t just let him lie here."
"Not Lu. You’ve all forgotten someone," Lin Hao sighed. He didn’t use the person’s name but used a term everyone would easily understand, "Knight!"
