Chapter 443: 437, Testing the Gun (First Update)_1
Receiving a call from his father-in-law at this time was completely unexpected for Ren He, and the feeling was incredibly frustrating.
However, Ren He suddenly felt a vague unease. Having just gained basic firearms skills from the Divine Punishment System, he had already speculated that perhaps the Divine Punishment System had sensed he might be drawn into a vortex and thus provided him with a skill for self-defense in advance.
He wasn’t sure, and even had deeper thoughts about this hypothesis: if he undertook another mission and completed it, and the Divine Punishment System continued to reward him with firearms skills, then it was very likely his speculation was true.
If that were the case, Ren He would actually be more pleased. Although the Divine Punishment System would not disclose any related information, he felt he could glean the intentions of the Divine Punishment System from future rewards, thereby increasing his self-protection.
Considering himself an ordinary person, he had no intention of getting involved in any vortex, but just like the time Yang Xi was kidnapped, sometimes he had no choice.
So when the call from Yang En suddenly came, Ren He was still wondering if there really was a problem. Perhaps the content of this call would provide some answers.
Yang Xi seemed to find an excuse to quickly blush and push Ren He away to answer the phone, "Hello, Dad?"
"Xi, Dad will arrive in New York from Washington tonight, let’s have dinner together with Ren He, okay?" Yang En said on the phone.
Ren He was stunned for a moment. Was it just for a meal? Was he overthinking things? However, he had already had a premonition when Yang En didn’t show up at the New York International Airport to greet them.
But he was surprised that his father-in-law actually wanted to have a meal with him, which seemed to suggest that his father-in-law was more open-minded than his mother-in-law... If it were his mother-in-law, she probably wouldn’t even want to see him.
Of course, Yang Xi agreed, since she hadn’t seen Yang En for several months, him having been appointed to Washington just as she was returning home.
Ren He thought it over; he wanted to test his own firearm abilities before Yang En’s arrival. Only by truly using the guns could he understand his own basic firearms level, and if there was a high possibility of trouble that evening, he’d at least be capable of defending himself.
If he was right, and it really was the Divine Punishment System hinting at him, then it would at least indicate that the upcoming crisis was extraordinary, to the point where firearms would be necessary.
He told Yang Xi and then left to find a shooting club in New York to try out the guns.
Can tourists from China shoot guns in the United States? The answer is absolutely yes, all you need is a passport, although it’s usually required for a first-timer to be accompanied. The person accompanying Ren He was Liu Erbao; Yang Xi’s current status was not suited for doing such things with him anymore.
Liu Erbao was also excited to play with guns; there weren’t many men who didn’t look forward to it. Ren He had at least handled them a few times back in China, whereas Liu Erbao had never touched one before...
Renting a gun cost only 20 US dollars; what was expensive were the bullets and the target paper. Ren He had heard that when entering a shooting range, one should definitely bring their own earplugs, as the earmuffs provided by the shooting club were practically useless...
At the shooting club, they asked Ren He what kind of gun he would like to rent. Ren He looked at all the firearms hanging on the surrounding walls, some of which he didn’t even know the names of, but he knew one thing: he could use them all...
There weren’t many people in the shooting club at the moment, and Ren He thought for a moment before saying, "Can I try them all?"
This was his genuine desire, because if something really happened, he wouldn’t know which gun he might need, so it seemed safer to try them all.
The club owner was stunned at the time; it was the first time he’d heard such a request.
Liu Erbao, feeling guilty, tugged at him, "Don’t be so extravagant, just casually having fun is enough!"
But they did not know Ren He’s purpose, which was for his own safety. Who knew what kind of ghostly things he might Encounter? However, after thinking it over, trying everything indeed seemed too excessive, so he instead said, "Just let me use the mainstream firearms available on the market, and I’m willing to pay a 20% service fee."
The owner, hearing this, felt the request was much more reasonable. If one were talking about mainstream firearms, the scope would be much narrowed. He selected a dozen or so firearms for Ren He and Liu Erbao. Erbao felt even two guns were heavy to hold, while Ren He, armed to the teeth, was as if nothing was wrong, leaving the club owner to stare in astonishment. He estimated even he himself might not be able to carry all that!
Looking at Ren He’s frame, one really couldn’t tell, just from his clothes, that his physical condition was so good.
Inside the shooting range, rapid-fire was prohibited. All the guns had been modified to load a maximum of ten bullets and could only fire single shots. Changing the magazine could only be done through a special mechanism using a tool to open the magazine well. If your rate of fire was too high, the safety personnel present would immediately come over to check.
Only in certain special states would one encounter semi-automatic rifles at a gun club.
When Ren He was about to enter the range, he saw a very powerful sniper rifle hanging on the wall and without a second thought, paid extra to strap it on as well. This gun alone weighed 12.9 kilograms. The shooting club’s owner almost thought he had seen a monster, but he quickly stopped Ren He, explaining that this gun was only for display in his shop, as it could easily shoot through walls. Moreover, the recoil was so strong that few could withstand it. Without care, the force could cause soft tissue contusions or even fractures...
The club owner hurriedly traded it for a gun of a slightly lower caliber...
Ren He paid extra for the staff to help him change magazines. At first, the staff were confused—was there really a need to pay extra for this?
Once inside the range, Ren He began with a pistol, firing a few shots to test it out. Most of the shots were on target, but it wasn’t necessarily indicative of great precision.
Out of curiosity, the club owner followed him in, wanting to see what level this intriguing person, who had just startled him, was at.
A look at Ren He’s shooting posture and accuracy, however, made the owner shake his head. The posture fell within the standard range, but it didn’t seem like he was someone who played with guns often; he lacked that unique aura.
A gun is a weapon of great lethality, and seasoned users often exude a unique sense of confidence when holding one, as though they have grasped some dominion over life itself.
Looking at the accuracy, out of seven shots fired, astonishingly, there was one miss. This disappointed the owner.
The targets at the shooting club weren’t particularly far—missing the target indicated that the individual was likely just an amateur enthusiast.
Ren He went from one gun to the next, but the staff member changing the magazines noticed a problem: this seemingly amateur visitor knew how to use every gun...
Firearms aren’t as simple as just pulling a trigger. Based on a person’s understanding of a gun’s recoil, one can tell whether they have experience with such weapons.
Yet the staff also had a strange feeling that this person wasn’t at the club simply to shoot guns. His demeanor was unlike that of most customers they had encountered; he didn’t seem to be playing with the guns, but rather, testing them!
