Chapter 393: 388, Maybe I’m not opening it the right way! (Fourth update)_1
Everyone obviously didn’t believe Ren He went to redo his enrollment procedures, so someone continued to ask, "Is it that the old dean wants to take you on as a student?"
"No, of course not," Ren He said cheerily, "I really did go to redo the enrollment procedures."
Mysteriously, a student who had been the most invisible in the class suddenly became the center of everyone’s attention, but no matter how they probed, they couldn’t get any useful information out of Ren He.
As far as Ren He was concerned, these students were still too green.
That evening, he headed straight to Richard’s art studio; he naturally had to take good care of his own paintings.
With nothing better to do, Ren He started sketching in the dark studio. One by one, ghouls that seemed to come to life in the drawings were slowly born. Humming a tune, Ren He drew several in one go and placed them by the window, then waited happily, quite confident in his drawing skills.
Ren He thought that normally the other party wouldn’t come back at night. After failing the day before, it would be stupid to return. However, it was also possible that they might think Richard wouldn’t notice any traces of their previous visit and take the risk to come again.
After all, Ren He had seen the marks on the safe. They were not very noticeable. If it weren’t for Richard needing to store two oil paintings that were drying today, the break-in might have gone undetected.
But it would be even better if they came back tonight. That would be his way of being responsible to his "followers" by setting them on the right path and preventing future mistakes.
If they didn’t come tonight and he left, and they returned later, Richard wouldn’t be as kind as he was and worry about their future. Richard would definitely call the police, and to be honest, there would be nothing wrong with that.
Ren He decided not to call the police purely out of emotional reasons.
Late at night, as Ren He was engrossed in his phone, reading discussions about Knight online, he suddenly heard deliberately muted footsteps outside. His spirits perked up; were they actually here?
He glanced at the time on his phone—it was already 2 AM. These three clumsy thieves really were patient...
Ren He turned on the "ghost sound" he had found on his phone after much difficulty, adjusted the volume to just the right level, and then turned off all the lights, waiting silently.
A voice outside suddenly muttered softly, "Did you hear that? A faint sound..."
"Why do I feel a chill on my body, I seem to hear it too... sounds like a ghost?!"
"Nonsense, there’s no such thing as ghosts in this world! We’ve come this far already. If we don’t succeed today after failing yesterday, there won’t be another chance; someone will discover it! I’ll go in first, you two follow!"
Just as he was saying that, Ren He heard the sound of a window being opened, and a silhouette flipped through the window and jumped in. The flashlight beam hit the papers and the person exclaimed, "Holy shit!" before jumping back out...
"What’s wrong? What did you see?!"
"I think there really is a ghost!" said the person who jumped in and out, lowering his voice, "I saw it, right by the window!"
"Didn’t you say there were no ghosts, why are you so scared?! Let’s just leave, forget about the theft!"
The person who jumped in and out bit down on his cheek and said, "No way, I bet David that I could definitely steal it, I’ve got 1,000 US dollars on the line with him! Plus, I swore I’d hang that painting in my room!"
Ren He chuckled to himself inside; so these three silly thieves weren’t stealing paintings to sell them.
The same shadow cautiously poked his head back in. Seeing that he indeed had a bit more courage than the average person, Ren He turned off his phone and quietly hid in a corner, donning the Red Scarf, waiting for them to enter.
The man inside carefully surveyed the room and sighed in relief. By then, the faint ghost sound had stopped. He whispered, "I saw it wrong; it’s just a few sketches. Who the hell had the nerve to draw such realistic demons and put them by the window, damn malicious!"
If this were a high building, Ren He wouldn’t dare to play like this. In a past life, he knew that his grandma’s house was often burglarized. They climbed up using the external gas pipes along the wall. So, a family on the third floor left a child’s toy by the window—which would sing "Happy Birthday" in a cutesy voice at the slightest touch.
Back then, installing burglar-proof windows wasn’t popular, so only the first and second floors had them.
Just a few days later, when a thief climbed up to that family’s window, the toy started singing "Happy Birthday," and the startled thief fell right then and there.
Luckily it was the third floor; if it were higher, that would have been the end for him... Ren He liked to scare people for fun, but he didn’t want to play a deadly game.
This is the first floor, which shouldn’t scare anyone to death. When these three bumbling thieves jumped in, Super Vision saw that one of them was weighing a large axe in his hand. Ren He was immediately bewildered. Were they here to burgle or to rob a bank? Is this how you crack a safe?
"Are you here to steal or to die?!"
Just as the amateur thieves were getting ready to smash the safe, Ren He, with his Red Scarf, walked out from a corner, "Ahem."
Shit, they had already been scared once in the dead of night, and now someone suddenly pops out, which is horrifying, okay!
However, their reaction surprised Ren He for a moment. The boldest one tried to chop him with the axe but couldn’t bring himself to do it.
It took a while before they recognized Ren He was also wearing a Red Scarf. The leader hesitated and asked, "Are you here to steal the painting too?"
Ren He was both angry and amused at that moment, and he said sternly, "Everyone, squat down over there."
The leader wasn’t having it, thinking, ’we’re all here to steal the painting, we have three people, you’re just one, why should we squat down for you?’ He immediately put down the axe and swung a punch at Ren He, who easily kicked him and sent him sprawling to the ground.
The leader, not to be outdone, stood up with the other two and charged, only for all three to find themselves back on the ground without even realizing what had happened.
Then it dawned on them, the three combined were no match for this person!
Ren He spoke leisurely, "Haven’t figured out who I am yet? You’re here to steal my painting?"
This revelation hit the three like a bolt from the blue. Last night, they had come to steal the painting but ended up crushed in intelligence by a safe. Today, they came back hoping for some luck, only to run into Knight himself!
Ren He’s words already confirmed his identity. Plus, they looked carefully under the dim light and realized this indeed was Knight’s silhouette. They wouldn’t have recognized it if not pointed out because they didn’t consider it, but now the resemblance was uncanny!
The leader was ready to drop to his knees on the spot, "Can you give us an autograph?"
At that moment, Ren He’s face darkened. What kind of reaction is that?!
He said loudly, "Everybody, squat down over there!"
"Okay, okay, we’ll squat, but please give us an autograph!"
Ren He couldn’t help but laugh. Are you guys idiots?
Seeing they had squatted down, he said, "Repeat after me, stealing is wrong."
All three in unison spoke, "Stealing is wrong..."
However, simultaneously, a shadow swiftly climbed into the room from outside. The person was dressed in black sportswear with a black hood. Ren He raised his eyebrows at this get-up. What’s this, another thief?!
But the most confused was the person who had just climbed in. He indeed came to steal a painting. He had spent several days studying the surveillance at Columbia University, and even discovered that Richard had purchased a safe over a decade ago. He had memorized the model of the safe!
The painting seemed like easy pickings to him, no security, an old safe; it felt as if Knight was handing him millions of dollars!
However, after entering, something felt off...
In the dead of the night, in an otherwise empty room, a person stood with a Red Scarf, while three others sat with Red Scarfs, chanting in unison, "Stealing is wrong..."
He turned to glance at the window behind him... Did he open it incorrectly?!
