Chapter 233: 231, Nobody Can Beat Me in My BGM (First Update)_1
In An Si’s view, Ren He really didn’t need to risk venturing into new fields; the sporting world had seen far too many failed examples of crossover challenges. Those failures would become permanent stains in their lives, resulting in a psychological shadow that lingered forever.
In the realm of sports, mood is incredibly important, as those who feel better during competition often perform better. This had been proven countless times.
If one were to be left with a psychological shadow, it might not make much of a difference for an average athlete, but for those truly seeking excellence, it’s like the inner demons of novels, strangely mystical.
This evening, An Si and Liu Erbao were entirely following Ren He’s lead. In the past, Erbao would have directed the entire video shoot, and Ren He and An Si wouldn’t have questioned anything. But tonight, Ren He was the one calling the shots.
Dressing up as an old man for a bit of fun was his idea, and now, without a break, starting the second segment of the video shoot was also Ren He’s idea. What excited An Si and Liu Erbao was that every time they followed Ren He’s wild antics, they would actually become quite inspired themselves.
This was the meaning behind the sixth principle of the Qinghe Club, to have the ability to infect and ignite hope in others.
At 1 a.m., they stood in an abandoned factory, a location suggested by Liu Erbao, who was more familiar with Capital.
There were quite a few abandoned factories in the suburbs of Capital, some relocated due to pollution, others bankrupt. The height of this particular complex was around 4 meters, with single-story buildings and numerous derelict industrial facilities.
Ren He measured the approximate distances between the connected buildings with a ruler and frowned; there wasn’t a distance that seemed especially suitable for the mission. It was as if the factory had been designed deliberately this way, with every building spaced 8.2 to 8.5 meters apart.
However, he didn’t say anything; instead, he started directing Liu Erbao and the others to set up the spotlights and cameras according to his own plan.
This time, Erbao brought all of the team’s prized equipment, much like the last time at Heavenly Road. After two hours, the whole factory was as bright as day as if a grand party was about to be held.
Erbao was puzzled about some of the camera placements, which seemed utterly useless, but he didn’t say anything and continued setting up the equipment as instructed by Ren He.
In the interlude, Ren He got someone to bring him paper and a pen to write down two songs he would give to Liu Erbao, hoping for a parkour-related mission to complete together. After pondering for a moment while choosing the songs, Ren He began to write.
The first song, Wang Feng, "In the Spring"! This song was so popular it even made it onto the New Year’s Gala, a true representative of pop rock. When judging pop rock, popularity, not anything else, should be the standard — no question about it.
The second song, Cui Jian, "Fake Monk"! This song represented the inner strength of the true rock musicians of the 90s, and it is deservedly one of the most classic rock songs in Chinese history!
With "In the Spring," "Fake Monk," and "Beijing Beijing," Ren He didn’t believe Liu Erbao and the group could fail to make a splash; after all, they could sing on key and actually had pretty good vocal techniques.
The Divine Punishment Mission arrived: "Mission: Complete 100 terrain crossings within one hour, with a deadline of one week. Penalty for failure: the host will cry for a month."
"Mission: Complete crossing over obstacles of more than 8 meters five times within one hour, with a deadline of one week. Penalty for failure: the host will vomit for a month."
Great, if I don’t complete this, I’ll get firsthand experience of my own skills, both at once.
But now that we’re here, and the Divine Punishment System has kindly provided a parkour mission, there’s no reason not to finish it! There are plenty of factory buildings here spaced over 8 meters apart; Ren He decided to go all out.
At this moment, he was still wearing the old man makeup, and he would appear in this guise for the mission. An Si, full of worry, said, "Since it’s just us here, it doesn’t matter if you fail, no one will know. The most important thing is your safety; as long as you don’t get hurt, you can try as many times as you want!"
Ren He laughed and said, "Don’t worry, I’m not really courting death, just wanting to challenge it." He turned his head and shouted to Liu Erbao in the distance, "Er Ge, is the thing I asked for ready?"
"Ready," Liu Erbao shouted back, "I’ll turn it on for you to try." He waved his hand, and a team member farther away saw the signal and pressed the switch beside him—suddenly, raucous, thunderous music erupted throughout the abandoned factory!
Liu Erbao said with pride, "This is the sound system from Jiang Chen’s concert; I borrowed it all for you. Cool, isn’t it?"
"Cool!" Ren He smiled and gave a thumbs up. Liu Erbao always loved to go big, and his grand gestures always brought surprises.
At that moment, the entire abandoned factory resounded with the electronic music of fade. When the brilliant electronic drum beats started, An Si got goosebumps all over! In fact, this music wouldn’t have any function in post-production because the dubbing needed special treatment, so the music here was prepared solely for Ren He’s auditory experience.
And Liu Erbao actually managed to bring over the sound system from Jiang Chen’s concert to cheer Ren He on with background music! That sound system alone cost 8 million!
Such extravagance!
Ren He stood silently on the rooftop listening to the boiling fade, imagining the place as near the North Pole with river-like, dazzling auroras floating in the sky and stars that seemed about to fall.
He shouted with a smile, "Thank you all for going crazy with me tonight. I know you’re worried about whether I can handle it, but I just want to say, with my BGM playing, no one can beat me, not even death. Begin!"
Ren He’s smile was radiant; he loved this moment so much—living again, challenging life and death.
Clubbing, getting tattoos, piercing, and binge drinking might seem cool, but these things are not difficult at all, as long as you are willing to do them. Cooler still are those things that are not easy to achieve, like reading, working out, making money, being filial to your parents, loving someone with all your heart, and then dedicating your life’s energy to conquering a field.
When you truly accomplish these seemingly boring and difficult-to-persist activities, you’ll discover they bring much more joy than you imagined.
Ren He was thankful for everything, grateful to everyone present for witnessing the most splendid time of his life.
He raised his arm high, his thumb, middle finger, and index finger representing a countdown.
Liu Erbao watched as Ren He put down his middle finger and quickly shouted into the walkie-talkie, "All positions pay attention to the countdown, 3!"
2!
1!
Within the thrilling music of fade, the electronic drum beats pounded against blood and nerves, burning increasingly brighter.
All eyes were fixed on Ren He’s extended thumb against the sky. The boy on the rooftop was like the only lead on this stage, and that thumb was the best praise for himself.
Let’s enjoy this grand flame together, begin!
