Chapter 33: Betrayal
Chapter 33: Betrayal
Chapter 32
The six masked figures had finally succeeded in joining all eight gemstones together. It had become a four elemental core, and they could all feel the raw power coming off it.
The core was dark reddish in color, and it leaked out whips of reddish aura.
They all stared in triumph at the core, their smiles of victory hidden behind their masks.
"We should immediately begin the second part of the ritual. Bring the boy."
The huge doors opened slowly, and the boy stepped in quietly, his steps hesitant as he approached them.
"Can you hurry? We don’t have all day." One of them barked, and the boy quickly picked up his pace. They all now sat in a circle, and the boy was ordered to sit in the middle. The core levitated in the air just above the boy, and the six figures all began channeling more mana into the core and bringing it down slowly into the boys body.
One of them coughed, spilling out through the corner of his mask. The ritual was causing serious damage to their bodies, but they all believed the sacrifice was worth it.
Minutes later, they succeeded in merging the four elemental core with the boys original core.
As soon as both cores merged, power surged from the boy, instantly blasting away all six figures, and being that they were already weak, they couldn’t hold their ground and flew apart, their bodies slamming against the walls and pillars in the hall.
The boy rose carefully, standing upright as his eyes scanned the masked men. A smirk curled on his lips as he watched their weak forms. And then, he bursted into a mocking laughter that left them all looking stunned.
"I’ve been waiting for this moment." He breathed out, his arms outstretched as he raised them up in a majestic way. He exhaled slowly, feeling the power course through his veins.
The masked men all struggled to get up, eyes wide as they realized the mess they’d just gotten themselves into.
"What do you think you’re doing? Have you forgotten your place you filthy begger?" The cloaked figure in flame mask barked, his clenched fist forming flames as he prepared to attach the boy.
Flynn turned to flame, his expression turning cold. "Wanna find out how quickly this filthy begger can end your life?"
A chill ran down their spines as they started at the disaster they had just created.
"I knew this was a big mistake, you told me he was obedient. Why is he suddenly acting like this?" One of them asked, turning to flame.
Flynn laughed again, this time his voice lower, they all turned to look at him, confused and helpless. Right now, all their mana had been spent on the ritual, and they had never once expected he’d turn against them in the last moment.
"What exactly made you think you had me under full control? What made you so sure I wouldn’t turn on you like I just did? You all are fools, senseless old filth, you call me a filthy begger? Sorry to break it to you but this filthy begger will be the last face you see when you die."
"You wouldn’t dare. I will make sure you..." Flame couldn’t finish his words when a sharp ice arrow appeared out of nowhere and shot him through the neck, leaving a visible hole in his throat, and instantly...blood began gushing out from the wound, his words dying with a gaggling sound.
"I’ve always hated you, your constant aggression fucking disgusts me." Flynn said with a cold tone, his brows furrowed with hatred as he stared at the man in flame mask collapse to the ground, unmoving.
The rest all gasped as they watched how effortlessly he had just killed flame without hesitation.
"Have you gone insane? We gave you that power, how dare you turn on us like this? Guards!" The man in frost mask yelled, turning to look at the door where the guards were supposed to be standing. But to their surprise, the guards didn’t move from their spot. They remained still even after watching the whole scene.
"Ohh, those are my guards now, they work for me and take orders from no one else." Flynn said to frost.
"For how long have you been planning this? Why? Why would you betray us? After everything we’ve done for you?" Earth asked, holding tightly to a nearby pillar to prevent him from falling.
"Are you really asking me that right now? Even with knowing what you-all put me through for preparation of the so called ritual? I’m just a guy trying to be something more than a filthy begger."
Five months ago was the beginning of his nightmare. All he wanted was to survive, find food to eat and live another day. He had a sister who he always took care of, struggling to find food for them both.
But begging could barely yield anything, they still starved most of the time, he tried applying for hard labor, but his employers never paid him even after he was done with the tasks they assigned to him. They took advantage of him and anytime he asked for his days wages, they’d beat him up and throw him into the streets without giving him anything or paying him for the work he did for them.
That was when Flynn decided to go into theft, pickpocketing. He became so skilled that he never got caught, until one faithful day when luck wasn’t on his side.
He stole from Flame’s daughter, not knowing who she was, it was an antique watch which had the crest of the fire realm. She somehow noticed it was missing and caught site of Flynn running off. She chased after him but he managed to escape her.
Hours later, when Flynn least expected it, when he thought he had successfully acquired another item that would fetch him a lot of money, the small tattered cottage where he and his little sister stayed was attacked by guards, and the woman he had stolen from was with them, her eyes boiling with rage.
"That’s the boy, get him for me."
