Chapter 659: Get out of my floor!

One wouldn’t know how important something was until they lost it.

Like how a person would not understand how important health was until they were sick or how breathing was until they could no longer utilize their lungs.

It was the same for Douglas.

He’d never considered himself an emotional person.

Once upon a time, he might have claimed emotions to be a weakness.

Only after he had stopped being so emotional and taking up responsibility was he able to provide for his siblings.

But now, deprived of emotions for so long while kept in a dark room with nothing to do, Douglas found himself yearning for an emotion, any kind of emotion.

He wished to feel something but try as he may, the whirlpool within him continually drained him of all emotions, causing him to wonder if he could even be regarded as a person anymore.

It didn’t help that Sayda, for some twisted reason, allowed him to feel once in a while, causing him to experience powerful bouts of emotions briefly before once again stealing them from him.

Before, he hated her for doing that; now, however... he looked forward to it.

Like a drug, he had gotten addicted to the feeling.

It was like finding an oasis in a desert after spending several days walking around without a drop of water.

He yearned for it, hopeful that she wouldn’t take too long to once again allow him to experience something.

And so, imagine his joy, or rather, the lack of it when Sayda walked into his dark quarters with a beautiful smile on her face.

She was indeed a beauty, much more beautiful than any other woman... though he couldn’t recall the face of any other woman.

Dressed in a purple saree, Sayda didn’t approach, her eyes scrutinizing Douglas’ emaciated figure.

It had been a long time since he bathed and added to his unfortunate living condition, the odor he gave off was quite potent.

"Dear me, you smell even worse than a pig," Sayda muttered in slight disgust. "We are going to have to fix that."

As she spoke, the smell ceased, devoured by a mouth that suddenly appeared next to Douglas.

Douglas didn’t seem to mind as he waited for her to make him experience those beautiful emotions.

Sayda grinned. "Poor thing, you wish to feel, don’t you?"

Douglas stared blankly at her, his intelligence having dropped to a frightening degree due to the whirlpool within him.

Now, he was no different from a smart animal, a far cry from the respectable gentleman he once was.

"Do you wish to feel?" Sayda asked with Douglas bobbing his head slowly.

"Then bark for me," Sayda muttered, clearly enjoying seeing Douglas so broken. "Go on, bark."

Just as Douglas was about to do so, a series of footsteps echoed from outside, quickly approaching the dark room.

It didn’t take long before the boat swain arrived, his expression marred with fright.

"Mistress, there is trouble!"

Sayda frowned as she glanced at him. "What..."

She didn’t even get the chance to finish her statement when she sensed something in the aether.

Something was coming.... something she definitely couldn’t handle.

Sayda didn’t dare to hesitate as she rushed to grab Douglas before disappearing from the ship.

Meanwhile, outside the wooden ship, a thick fog suddenly appeared, engulfing everyone while reducing visibility to the bare minimum.

"Everyone, stay calm!... We cannot let ourselves be taken!" The captain aboard the ship tried to rally his men but alas, even he knew that the situation they were in was hopeless.

Just as it was in the unspoken rules of the sea, one must avoid the fog at all costs.

But if one ends up being engulfed by the fog, then do well to say your last prayers to whatever deity you serve... for there is no coming back.

The next moment, the fog dissipated and ahead, an island revealed itself.

The island appeared to stretch on for miles with various buildings erected as far as the eyes could see and in the sky above... what appeared to be hot air balloons patrolled freely.

Sayda appeared within the Infernal Palace along with Douglas, her expression a combination of fear and annoyance.

Just as she pondered her next course of action, she realized she was holding someone, causing her to glance at Douglas, who was currently being consumed by the fierce emotions that persisted within the floor she was on.

She immediately engulfed him in her divinity, allowing him to survive.

Thankfully, the map was still intact, allowing her to breathe a sigh of relief.

If she had wasted any more time, chances were that the map could have been damaged due to Douglas’ skin rotting off.

"Damn it." She cursed aloud. "Why did that stupid fog appear out of nowhere?"

She had made sure that the ship followed a safe path through the Azure Seas, so how come the fog had appeared?

As much as she couldn’t figure out the exact reason, she was aware of one thing.

The Great Unknown acting in such an unpredictable manner didn’t bode well for her at all

Now, not only was she stranded, but she also needed to quickly find a means to arrive in Henos before the Month of Astra, or else she might end up missing the opening of Twilight’s entrance.

Letting out a sigh, Sayda carefully pondered her next course of action only to suddenly react as a gaping maw slammed down at her location.

She appeared at another area, appearing rather displeased as she stared at the maw which was a familiar figure around these parts.

Didn’t I warn you not to come into my floor unannounced?... Do you think I don’t dare to devour you right where you stand?

The Devil of Gluttony, Baseth questioned, her voice echoing from everywhere within the floor.

Sayda clicked her tongue. "It’s not like I did it on purpose. I didn’t have a choice."

Oh?

"Yes. If I didn’t come in when I did, I’d have been stuck in the Great Unknown."

Silence followed, with Sayda getting the impression that Baseth was convinced, only to be proven wrong a moment later.

Do I look like I care?... Get out of my floor before I chew you up like a light breakfast!
