Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 638: Out of Control

Chapter 638: Out of Control

It caught everyone off guard, including Baba Yaga, as the explosion occurred without warning.

Tragic that her actions served as the trigger that set off the explosion in the first place.

She watched, her expression twisted in repulsion as Ulysses’ body underwent a profound change.

Her act of smashing his head in had caused him to lose consciousness briefly, and due to that, the whispers that had been eating at him finally managed to effect some changes as he was unable to hold them at bay any longer.

His body exploded like a flesh bomb with pieces of flash dropping everywhere around the small hut.

Baba Yaga watched as the flesh wiggled as though alive before they began to consume everything in their path, coating it all in a layer of flesh filled with immense vitality.

Some that had touched her also tried to eat at her, with Baba Yaga not hesitating to use her authority to suppress the growing flesh, but even this was a temporary solution as the source of the flesh was from an entity far above what she could handle.

Within seconds, most of her hut had been devoured by the rapidly expanding flesh, leaving nothing as it swallowed even Victoria and Ana.

With no other choice, Baba Yaga quickly left the hut, just in time to watch it be completely swallowed up by the amorphous flesh that continued to expand into the Grim forest.

She conjured a broom and used it to fly into the air before manipulating her pestle to expand in size until it was the size of a mountain.

Then it fell, slamming into the amorphous flesh mass with a vengeance.

The earth shook at the impact, and several lines appeared on the ground, but even that was not enough to stop the flesh expansion.

She attacked it several more times but it only served to worsen the situation as the flesh regenerated at a faster rate than she could damage, leaving her no choice but to watch as it continued to spread, intent on devouring the Grim Forest.

The Forest, almost like it were sentient, reacted to the foreign entity as several bone spikes, emerging from the roots and branches of the ash trees, quickly joined together, creating a cage to impede the growth of the amorphous flesh.

But even this was but a temporary measure as the flesh continued to grow, seeking to devour all things and imbue them with excess life.

Just as blood-red flowers began to bloom on the ash trees, help arrived in the form of a young lady.

Baba Yaga stared at Arwen with the latter staring back in slight amusement.

"You have made quite a mess of things, haven’t you, old friend?" She teased as she looked down at the sight while floating in the air with the aid of a pair of bone wings.

The mass of amorphous flesh, developed faces in that moment, revealing the expressions of the members of Constellations trapped within, unable to escape.

Arwen shook her head. "Did I not warn you lot to stay away?"

She had half the mind to leave them be, so they would lose themselves to the corruption of the Abyss, devoured by the will of the Lord of Flesh and Blood, but giving that being more power would not help her cause at all and would result in the birth of a troublesome foe.

And so, using that as a thinly veiled excuse, she acted.

Several tongues of emerald flames appeared above the amorphous flesh mass before they began to fall like rain, striking the monstrosity and burning away its vitality.

A pained scream echoed in that moment as the flames, despite the struggles of the flesh, devoured everything, imbuing death and giving the mass no chance to regenerate.

It took almost an hour, but by the time the flames had died down, the amorphous flesh mass was gone, along with Baba Yaga’s chicken hut.

All that was left were the unconscious bodies of the members of Constellations with Ulysses still being burned by minute amounts of the flames of death.

Arwen floated down along with Baba Yaga, quickly landing next to an unconscious Alex.

Her expression took an unexpected turn as she bent down and touched his cheek.

Just then, several Banshees arrived at the scene with one quickly hurrying over to Arwen’s side while the others watched Baba Yaga with wary looks.

"Mistress, you scared us. Are you alright?"

"I am." Arwen calmly replied as she got to her feet. "Take them all, we’ll keep them in the dungeons until the ritual is completed."

"As you wish, Mistress."

Satisfied with this, Arwen picked up Alex and left while the others moved to capture the others.

***

Alex found himself not in that field of light and darkness, a place he had come to despise, but instead, in a lightless area with nothing to see in every direction.

A familiar location and one that he had first entered before arriving in Eventide.

The architect of this strange space revealed himself not too long after, constructing a tiny room with a table and two chairs.

"Why am I here?"

Apart from the fact that you were nearly devoured by one of those illogical entities, I thought it time to meet again considering the current situation.

"You are referring to the field of light and darkness?"

Indeed.

"Who is that man and what does he want from me?"

Take it that he is your twin. You were born from darkness and he, from light.

"And the one that backs him?... He is your twin as well?"

Far from it.

Nyx replied.

"So..."

Do not ask for details. You saw him once and paid the price for it. If not for the protection you enjoyed, you’d have died painfully.

Pursing his lips, Alex inquired. "So what now?"

I’ll be honest with you, Alex. If you face him as you are now, you will die. The only way you survive a fight with the Hero is if you accept my authority the same way he accepted the authority of his patron.
