Chapter 989
William Foster frowned: "I don’t know yet."
In a blink, the scene switches to the Collins house.
Inside the master bedroom on the second floor, there was a moment of remarkable silence. The next second, Rosalind Taylor’s somewhat frantic voice rose.
"It’s only kids making a fuss. It’s not good if it goes on too long. If you don’t take this computer call now, how will you face the two from the Spences in the future?"
In her hand was a cell phone. The caller ID displayed was from Sophia Spence’s father.
Tristan Collins, engrossed in his recent stock market research with glasses on, merely looked at her coldly, then turned his face away, saying, "Tell him that if he really wants to say something, let him come and say it in person."
Rosalind sighed: "Honey, after all, Chlo-Chlo wasn’t really hurt. Sophia has already lost face. That’s punishment enough. Let’s not take it too seriously."
She really didn’t understand Tristan. He clearly hates Chloe so much, but when push comes to shove, he acts just like your average father would.
Although he always goes on about the tarnished reputation, the emotions that seep out of his eyes don’t seem to be that ice-cold and merciless.
"Honey, take the call." She tried again to pass the phone to him.
Tristan slammed the book on the desk and snapped, "She dared to plot against the Collinses. It just shows that she doesn’t take us seriously at all. Her parents should come in person to apologize to me for such conduct!"
He waved his hand irritably: "Get out, get out."
Rosalind did not leave, and at that moment, the phone stopped ringing as well.
She sat in a chair next to him, watching him, her gaze slightly chilly: "What are you thinking right now?"
Tristan lifted his serious eyes slightly, his voice deep: "What are you scheming now?"
These blunt words struck right at Rosalind’s heart.
Since the child was born, Tristan’s words had been increasingly direct. Sometimes, they feel like intentional jabs to the heart.
She laughed bitterly: "You think every time I talk to you, I’m plotting something?"
Tristan lowered his gaze, his voice cool and detached: "If you can plot even against your own sister, it’s no wonder I think that."
Rosalind pursed her lips tightly. The grievance in her heart was overwhelming: "Mentioning my sister again? Did I do that intentionally? Huh? Could I make a loud clap with one hand if you were unwilling? If we’re talking about who’s wrong, you’re not much better. Otherwise, my sister wouldn’t have pushed you away after that incident!"
With a thud, Tristan slammed the book on the floor.
"Don’t mention her!"
Rosalind bit her lip: "You were the one who brought her up..."
"I said don’t mention her!" Another angry shout!
Rosalind trembled, terrified.
Seeing this, Tristan gradually calmed his anger and sat back down.
"Don’t always bring up things that upset me."
A tear fell from Rosalind’s eyes. She said quietly: "You weren’t like this to me before."
Annoyance and impatience flashed in Tristan’s eyes.
"We’re not young anymore, you’re the mother of two kids. You should learn to be calm."
Rosalind stared at him for a long time, but he didn’t meet her gaze.
She couldn’t help but think of his previous plan with Tessa Collins.
The Collinses’ property. She, Rosalind, has no share.
She clenched her hand, slowly calming herself down, "Doesn’t it seem odd to you? That Chloe girl stayed in the mountains for so many years. How come once she came back, she keeps astonishing everyone? I won’t talk about her being a perfumer, that’s obviously something she learned from my sister. But what about those calligraphy and computer science skills? And all the culture knowledge that shocked us all? I fear you won’t find another person like her in a village for a hundred years. Do you think this is normal? Where did she learn all this?"
