Chapter 99: Short comfortable silence.

Arissa tried to be indifferent about the kiss they just shared. She was extremely overwhelmed by what just happened tonight and laying on her bed, she looked up at her ceiling, recalling the moment.

She bit her lower lip to stop herself from smiling in happiness but that was fruitless because, in the next second, a speechless smile covered let lips.

The moment seemed very special to her and her heart rate was still quick with excitement and the butterflies in her stomach did not spare her one bit because they all erupted even with her strong wish to keep them intact.

Licking her lower lips, she ran her hand through her hair, "I can’t believe I feel this way for just a kiss, Arissa stop," she reprimanded herself when her smile got out of hand.

She let out an audible soft giggle before placing her hands on her stomach as she focused on her ceiling. Right now, she was akin to a teenager who just got her first kiss but she do not care because the feeling that came with the kiss was priceless and she don’t care to have more of it.

Parting her lips, she released another giggle that filled the whole of her inside. She could bet for the past few years, she had never been this happy and carefree.

Humming dreamily, she turned away from her ceiling and faced her sleeping cat. The way he looked at her back in the hallway inflated a huge spark in her heart and she felt like she would burst soon from this unknown and unreasonable happiness.

She could not stop smiling as she looked at the beautiful stars from where she was laying. Mindlessly, she shook her head to take the thoughts and feelings away.

"Urg_" she grunts with a smile when her phone suddenly started ringing from her vanity table.

Thinning her lips to subside her smile, she came down from the bed and proceeded to the vanity table to answer the call.

Dr. Collins was displayed on the caller ID. Organizing her emotions, she pressed the answer space, "Hey," she called, her voice quiet with enthusiasm.

Collins smiled from the other end when he heard her voice and how she sounded. He never expected to upgrade to the point where just a call from him would make her happy.

"You are happy," he voiced his thoughts. He felt as high as the clouds.

Arissa nodded, "Exactly, never knew I made it so obvious," she remarked.

Collins chuckled, "Do you care to share?"

Arissa stopped smiling and in an instant, her voice went back to neutral, "Why did you call?"

Collins’s heart dropped to his stomach with the tune she used and how fast she wanted to go straight to the point. Could it be that she was happy before she got his call?

Wasn’t it his call that made her happy?

Swallowing the bitter possible truth, he decided to lighten up the conversation, "It’s okay if it’s personal," he said, referring to her reason for being happy.

Arissa blinked when she observed his new choice of words and then, she released a low sigh, "I would have shared it with you but it’s a bit unreasonable and would only take our time," she made excuses knowing he would not be happy if she tells him the main reason of her being happy, "How about I let you know tomorrow when I drop by at the hospital?" she asked.

Collins sulked.

Her reasons were responsible and considerate but that did not take away the pain in his heart with how she shoved him away with her first answer and now, he felt threatened about his space in her heart.

Has he ever had a place in her heart? That he doesn’t know.

"It’s okay. I won’t be at the hospital tomorrow,"

Arissa could not help but roll her eyes at Collins’s petty tune. She doesn’t want to be harsh, but she thinks he has to move on. She isn’t worth his time if you ask her.

Curiously, she asked, "Oh! Where would you be at?"

"I’d be leaving tomorrow," he informed but paused later on as he waited for a word from her. Hearing nothing, his heart bleed but he continued.

"I just wanted to hear you_"

"Can I know your flight time and airport address?" she suddenly asked, cutting Collins off.

"I thought you would never ask," Collins said with obvious happiness laced all over his voice.

Arissa laughed, "Why wouldn’t I? You are one of the most important people in my life," she confessed and Collins stilled at the other end.

"I still haven’t forgotten my promise," she continued, "I would make sure to come visit you the moment all of these die down," she promised.

Collins breathed out with all happiness, "Thank you so much, Arissa. I’m glad I came to know you,"

Arissa smiled, "You don’t have to be. I’m the grateful one here,"

"Other doctors can do what I did for your sister. I was just lucky to be someone you trusted with her life," he argued.

Arissa’s smile widened when she heard him. She couldn’t believe he still thinks his only help in her life was with her sister if so, he need to work on his memory.

"I’m glad you were that lucky one around. You were important to me from the moment I knew you better," she insisted and Collins turned flattered.

"Okay, I’d send you my flight details," he said, with the motive of ending the conversation so his thoughts don’t go astray and reason opposite her meaning.

"Could you please arrive hours before my flight takes off?" he pleaded. He would love to spend quality time with her for the last time - well until he breaks her restriction letters.

"Oh, most definitely," Arissa agreed without hesitation, and then, a short silence ensured between them.

A short comfortable silence, until she heard a knock on her door. Her eyes widened as she placed all of her attention on her door.

"Tomorrow," she announced, her whole attention fixed on her door.

"Hmm, tomorrow. Sleep tight,"

Without a second more, Arissa hung up on the call. Dropping her phone back on her vanity table, she walked towards her door, "Who’s there?" she asked.

She doesn’t want to just open her door without knowing who she would open it to. It might be Nicklaus, who knows?

"It’s Lyra, Mrs," Lyra’s calm voice answered from the other side. Peeping from her door, she released a sigh of relief when she saw only Lyra at her door.

"Master said I should give you these," Lyra said the moment the door was open.

Arissa looked at the maid’s outstretched hands. Nodding her head, she took the fancy bag from the maid’s grip.

"Thank you," she thanked the maid.

With a nod from the maid, she closed her door.
