Chapter 74: Criminally silent.
Mr. Adams sat in the car, with his eyes all over the place like an eagle. It was an enemy domain so, a little mistake was priceless.
Right now, he has a job and that was to protect Arissa to the end and also, to open ways for her to get all information she would use against her father if she wants to.
It had been ten minutes since Alfred left and already, his mind was against him waiting for a second more, and without thinking of the consequences, he started the engine and drove away.
....
Arissa sat in the coffee shop as she read the address Mr. Adams sent to her. A small part of her told her it was a very bad journey she was about to embark on.
She wanted to find her uncle. She always knew he was alive and Mr Adams just confirmed it with an address attached.
Calling his line, she placed the phone in her ear and watched around. To make sure that none of Nicklaus’s men were around her - if she even knows them.
"Mr. Adams," she called the moment the call was connected. Mr Adams hummed in response and it was a go-ahead for her to continue, "How do I know he’s the one? You did not send his picture to me," she knew her uncle - for she had seen a lot of his images at Richard’s room. But still, it had been a long time and she does not even know what might be happening to him since it was her father that has him.
Now that her father was with that Logan of a person, Mr. Adams was sure that he would not even answer a phone call so, she planned to use her title as his daughter and hidden at the inside of her blazer, were the only disgusting family photo she had left and that might be a pass but if it wasn’t, she had a plan B.
"That place is dangerous," Mr. Adams warned rather than replying to her question or giving heed to her demand. And now, he was starting to regret why he gave her Richard’s father’s address. The whole family accepted the man was dead so why can’t Arissa do the same?
Arissa felt the strength of his words.
"Text me the address of where you are currently and id be there in a minute," Mr. Adams’s voice came through, and now, he sounded anxious, regretting why he did not plan well. This was just like sending the girl to her grave.
She looked at the address again. She hasn’t been to that part of the county but still, with the address she needs no help.
"I don’t need your help to go down there Mr. Adams and again, you have Mr. Lincoln to worry about. Just send me his current image and I’d be good to go," Arissa interjected.
"Arissa no." Mr. Adams growled at her and Arissa gasped, "That place is extremely dangerous. You might lose your life so, give me an address of where you currently are and I’d be there if not, don’t go anywhere,"
Arissa blinked.
If he doesn’t want to help her anymore, he should just say it, rather than giving her discouraging threats about the place. She had initially guessed that the place would be dangerous but with Mr Adams confirming it, it gave her goosebumps in every part of her body.
"I would go alone, Mr Adams. Thank you for the warning," she declared and without waiting for Mr Adams’s reply, she hung up on the call and switched off her cell phone.
Rolling her eyes underneath her sunshades, she picked up her coffee cup and glued it all in a go. Giving the waiter a tip, she looked around one last time with a calculating eye, and seeing the whole place cleared with only a few teenagers and couples around, she walked out of the shop.
Mounting on her motorcycle, she gave what she was about to do a last thought, and with a determined life-and-death breath, she wore her helmet and zoomed off with lightning speed.
Arissa rode on her motorcycle for complete four hours and finally, she arrived at the place. Just as she thought, the place was criminally quiet, with just farmlands around, making the place zero suspicions but she would still say it. The place was criminally quiet.
She must clap for her father when she gets back to the city. He was a genius in building crime hideouts.
Riding around for a minute more, she inspected the place in case of emergency arrival, she held a break and came down from her motorcycle when she did not see any runout opening. Taking off her helmet, she looked at the bar fence that was blocking her from the house or whatever she would meet there.
And soundlessly, she jumped on the bar fence and climbed carefully. Though she saw no one when she scanned the place, she still can’t risk it. So, she climbed like a feather, and with a soft thud, she landed on the floor.
She paused for a moment and listened.
Hearing no threatening sound, she started walking in the direction where she would see Richard’s father. And then, she took off her black blazer, and threw it over the bar fence in the direction of her motorcycle, leaving her with only a free top and black pants.
The place was too quiet and night was also falling fast. Before she would turn away from the bar fence, and back into the space provide, an arrow flew in her direction.
"Twang," the arrow plunged into her flesh.
Arissa dropped to the floor with a grunt. She looked at what just flew into her right arm and she could not help but grit her teeth.
No one informed her that arrows were still used up to this day. Her chest heaved up and down with fear and pain.
Raising her head an inch from the floor, the man who just shot her covered her view with another bow and arrow in his hand, ready to give her another shot.
