Chapter 68: Boundless strange love.

Nicklaus shut his eyes with a deep sigh. The two love birds were crying right now and Arissa’s tears ripped him open. Controlling himself, he decided to move toward her.

He doesn’t know why she was crying over just hurting someone. She wasn’t supposed to feel it, whereas he does it all the time.

Getting to where she stood, he immediately took his jacket off and dropped it on Arissa’s body as he backed Collins. Arissa looked up at him with her red eyes.

She felt nothing less than a monster. She has been playing with someone’s feelings for years and her guilt made more tears leave her eyes.

"It’s okay," Nicklaus whispered and raised his fingers to her face and cleaned it off. He would set her free but not now.

First, he wants to know everything and make sure she has protection before freeing her from this bondage she’s in and then, she would be able to be with anyone, while he would still get the benefits even if it involves force.

Although it wasn’t easy, he was able to know more about her father and his cruelty so, he has to ensure her safety because of his mother’s boundless strange love for her.

Nicklaus pressed her head on his chest and rubbed on her hair soothingly, while Collins could not help but stand there and watch with a heavy heart.

Watching them hug, the promise he made to Jocelyn played in his memory. He promised to let Arissa go if she doesn’t reciprocate his feelings but now, he could not.

Words are extremely easy compared to actions.

"Why can’t you love me?" Collins asked again with a wounded voice, "Why_"

"It’s high time you stop conversing with my wife in such manners." Nicklaus cut Collins off his questions when he felt Arissa’s body tense up a bit as if she was blaming herself for something. He knows that feeling well, including the air around it.

He never wanted to interfere but knowing she has a lot going on, Collins’s case added might just kill her.

"And I would appreciate it if you don’t crowd us," Nicklaus continued. He has had enough of the confession drama and he’s kind enough to be this calm to Collins after he saw his lips on his wife’s lips that way.

Collins could not believe how big of a loser he was. He was not only rejected but also got his eyes fed with their affectionate display.

He remembered the day he held her while she cried. Although she was in pain, it was one of the best days of his life.

"Dr. Brodkin?" Nicklaus called with an icy stern voice, feeling Collins’s eyes on his back. This doctor does have guts and also, a high level of stupidity in him.

Collins held his fists tightly, controlling himself from hitting his face of Nicklaus into a huge swell.

And without saying another word, Collins left the balcony, shutting the door behind him as he left.

Arissa who have stopped sobbing right now but was only streaming tears wrapped her arms around Nicklaus also.

Nicklaus stilled the moment her hand wrapped themselves in his midsection. His heartbeat increased x10 and he could not believe he was still standing. He parted his lips to say something but after a short thought, he swallowed, taking the words off his lips.

Nicklaus had never thought that Arissa cry, not to talk about crying this much. Even after Collins left, she still spent minutes crying, and now, his shirt was soaked. Arissa’s heart was torn beyond repair. Collins had been all good to her and was always around when she needed him and she was still unable to go in line with the truth that she had been hurting someone this good to her when she had very few people that she would say loves her.

Nicklaus rubbed her back without repulsion, compared to the way he hates someone crying before him.

Arissa stepped away from him and holding the sides of his suit jacket, she turned away from him and walked over to the couch.

The tension she felt was much and before she would realize that she was walking in steps too rigid, her pointy heels missed a step and her ankles twisted.

She prepared herself for the fall that would add to her miserable night and then, she heaved a sigh of relief when the fall did not come because unexpectedly, Nicklaus’s arms held her from behind and helped her to stand straight.

"Easy," Nicklaus whispered, easing her tension as he released her waist when she was balanced standing again.

"You are tired," Nicklaus noticed. "Would you like to stay back till the event is over?"

"No," Arissa murmured, still shocked by Collins’s confession. Her heart was really heavy.

She turned around to Nicklaus, taking the jacket off her shoulders, "I’m sorry I had to bother you with my tears. It would never happen again," She promised, passing his jacket over to him.

Nicklaus looked at the jacket on her delicate hand as she passed it over to him. He took the jacked from her and in the next second, he dropped it on her again.

Arissa hissed and took it off again. About dropping it to the floor in annoyance, Nicklaus caught it and with a warning look, he dropped it on her shoulders again.

Arissa raised her hand to the jacket again to take it off her shoulders but Nicklaus gently pressed his hand on her hand to stop her.

Arissa looked up at him. Why was he so hellbent on covering her up all the time? The place was chilly, but she was fine and okay with it so, to hell with his help.

"If you take this off your shoulder one more time, I would not mind having sex with you out h_"

Arissa cut him off with an annoyed slap. How dare spouts out things like that. "What happened between us in there was a mistake and would forever be a mistake so, end whatever sexual attraction you have towards me," she yelled at him, letting him cease to think she would repeat anything concerning sex with him.

Nicklaus looked at her hands and imagined how those small palms were so painful and then, he remembered how the slap she just gave to him was the first slap he had ever received. He tried to frown but then, he slowly calmed down and found the case laughable. He raised his hand to the check she just slapped.

Someone just slapped him? Remarkable!

And then, listening to what she just yelled out at him, his pride was hurt. Did she just condemn sex with him? He had women from all angles ready to have sex with him and now, she had just dragged his pride down to dust level.

"Take me away from here," Arissa ordered, cutting him off his thoughts with no remorse that she just slapped him.

Nicklaus shut his eyes and released a puff as he tried to calm down and let go of the insult she just gave to him. "Let’s go," he accepted and picked up her silver purse that dropped on the floor while they were engaged in the jacket battle.

Arissa thinned her lips as she watched him pick her purse up from the floor for her and she do not know if to apologize to him or to turn away - and she did the latter.

She turned away.

"Let’s go," Nicklaus said calmly and stood beside her and after arranging the jacket on her body, he lead the way.
