His Toxic Addiction
Chapter 63: Another lie.

Chapter 63: Another lie.

From the style of the hall alone, one would know that the auction would be extremely lavish. The hall was filled with guests and a few waiters, walking around and serving the elegant affluent people refreshments before the show would begin.

Laura and Alfred with smiles on their faces socialized with the guest. Right now, they were like the most peaceful couple who had ever graced planet Earth.

Laura boasted a lot about her youngest daughter marrying off to the Wyatt family. The air around her was proud and high and the same goes for Alfred who loved the look of surprises on some of the businessmen’s faces.

The ones who were glad his company crumbled were now at his auction. Sigh, how blissful!

Although Laura loves the benefit of Arissa getting married to Nicklaus Wyatt, her smile crumbles each time Alfred tries to set up a marriage proposal for Adele.

They don’t even know where the girl was or anything about her condition but here he was, confidently setting up a marriage proposal for her.

"Laura," Alfred whispered her name with a threat.

Laura stiffened with his tune, "Alfred,"

Alfred smiled at the few guests around the zone. Not wanting them to hear their discussion, he took Laura’s hand and walked towards the edge of the hall hand in hand with her. He has to give her some warning before she would screw things up for him.

"Take that frown off your face," he growled at her with a calm facade so as not to draw attention. "One more disapproving look from you, I’d do well to end Arissa tonight," he promised deadly and at the same time, caressed her cheek.

Laura was already used to him. They have been this way for years and even Arissa or Adele doesn’t know about the living facade they had been putting on. He respects her before them and turns completely different alone.

Laura nodded and to strengthen their act, she planted a kiss on his lips and backed away with a smile.

Alfred nodded and hooking their arms together, he was about to turn back to the guests but he stopped mid-way from turning.

What the hell were these two here?

He turned to Laura and she looked up at him. Before she would be able to realize herself, he caught her pleased expression.

"What are they doing here?" he growled turning away from the two guests who just walked in.

Knowing he would do nothing to her in front of all these guests, she ignored him and elegantly walked over to the couples who were now walking in. She has the whole night and early mornings to think about the consequences.

"Beatrice," Laura welcomed as she spread her arms apart to hug Beatrice. Beatrice left the arm of her husband and lost herself in the arm of her long-time friend.

"It’s been a long while now," Laura mumbled in the hug. Beatrice said nothing but only step away from the big and hooked her arm back in her husband’s own. Maybe, it was due to the years apart but for some unknown reasons, she felt like Laura wasn’t the girl she grew up with any longer and with that thought, she wasn’t able to hug back and only parted from the hug in seconds.

Looking at their entwined arms, Laura could not help but bleed in her heart. Even after all these years, she still felt this way towards this man.

She looked away from their arms and to their faces. And for a split moment, her eyes got locked with Stephan eyes and she can’t help but look away with a heavy heart.

"Your husband has a high event taste," Beatrice expressed looking around the hall, not knowing the fleeting eye glances between her husband and the hostess of the event.

Laura smiled, "I know right," she replied, her whole pride dropping because as usual, she always felt inferior around Beatrice.

Beatrice was angelic, just like her heart in her flowy white dress designed with a deep V-neckline. and Laura could not deny the fact that just like in their teenage again, she felt a bit of insecurity around her again.

"We would take our seats now," Stephen chimed in, seeing the emotions Laura’s eyes let out. Beatrice turned to him with a smile and to emphasize he was now married and too old to be caught up in shits, he leaned down and kissed Beatrice passionately.

Breaking off the kiss, he nodded at Laura, "You should continue with the other guest. We would take our seats now," and with the statement, his hand on Beatrice’s waist tightened.

Laura let out a tight smile and moved away from them. It’s been thirty years but still, she wants him.

...

"Is something wrong?" Nicklaus asked Arissa. This was the fifth time he was turning to her and each time, her fists were tight like balls and her aura gets sharp in seconds.

Arissa turned to him.

She did not realize he noticed it. She was extremely careful and again, he was lost on whatever he was taking care of on his laptop. So?

She leaned on the backrest of the car, "The show started an hour ago. Technically, we’re late," she complained, waging his question away.

Nicklaus turned back to his laptop ignoring her. He has things to do than listen to her complaints. They left the house the moment she was ready so what’s the complaint about?

He gave her a side eye again, "Any specific reason why you changed your mind?" he asked.

Arissa heaved out a breath, "There isn’t,"

Nicklaus frowned. Another lie.

She was the same person who her father said wasn’t attending and also, she dressed up slowly, and now, she was complaining about being late.

He decided to ignore her twisted suspicious attitude and first of all, focus on his goal of following her down to the auction. "Drive faster, Lucas," Nicklaus ordered. If getting there earlier would make her happy, then so be it.

"How did you know I was going?" Arissa asked looking at his fingers that typed, having wired feelings.

He was bad for her eyes. She felt hot each time they were in the same space or she spends more than a second on his appearance.

Nicklaus shut his laptop. Dropping it on the next seat beside him, he turned back to Arissa, "All you have to do today is to be careful," he forewarned again

Arissa nodded. Did he perhaps know anything?

Looking down at her hand on her tight, Nicklaus took it into his warm big palm and wrapped it in.

"Why do you keep saying this?" Arissa asked curiously, relaxing in his clutch.

Feeling her relaxation, his grip tightened gently, "Your parents hurt Adele without feelings. So, what made you think they can’t hurt you?" he asked ending the mind games with her.

Bam! Arissa’s heart dropped and she immediately withdraw her hand. Her heart beating fastly.

"How di_"

"Just do as I asked Arissa. Stay safe and out of their reach," Nicklaus demanded cutting her off, with a little hint of annoyance in his voice.
