His Toxic Addiction -
Chapter 59: A foe or an enemy?
Chapter 59: A foe or an enemy?
Arissa tied her brown hair into a messy bun as she walked over to her bed and glanced at her phone screen.
It shows an unknown caller but knowing who the person was, she immediately called the person again.
Since she had just finished her night bath, she sat in the vanity space to take care of her body’s night ritual while placing the phone on the table and putting it on the loudspeaker.
"I’m listening," she said curtly the moment the call was connected.
The other end at the other side raised his brows.
He expected her to be a bit back to before with all the help he was offering but sadly, she doesn’t even have plans on doing that.
"I can’t get my hand on the embezzlement files,"
"What?!" Arissa asked with puzzlement as she took her finger off her face cream and stood up. Picking up her phone, she asked seriously, "What do you mean you can’t? I believe you have been working for him for a long time now so, what are you saying," she asked with a stern voice but panicked inside.
The embezzlement files were the last pieces of documents she needed to make sure her parents - most especially, for her father to rot in prison. Since her father was strongly powerful with layers and layers of protection, those little fraud reports can’t take him to jail but surely, the embezzlement evidence reports would do, and now, it’s nowhere to be found?!
Impossible.
"Arissa, calm d_"
"Don’t. Don’t call my name and tell me to calm down," she panted, "How am I sure you are not letting him know my every move?" she blurted.
And immediately, the other end went silent, deadly silent.
Watching Arissa growing up, Mr. Adams had never imagined that there would come a day when his little girl would question his love for her.
His heart tightened and trembled dangerously and a lonely tear left his left eye. He knows he had failed her by letting that bastard - Alfread do all of those things to her but now, he was trying to pay for them all by giving her documentary evidence that would cost his life in a second if discovered but... but this was what she still thinks about him?
Arissa swallowed at the silence and she got her answer immediately. And it was at that moment she knew she fucked up.
But at the same time, you would not blame her. Right!
Mr. Adams had seen everything that happened to Adele and still offered her down to her groom’s place so, it was just natural for her truth issues with him to increase.
"Mr. Adams," she called with an apologetic voice. She just messed up big time with her accusation of him and his silence was freaking her out for the worst.
No answer!
"Mr. Adams,"
"Mhm," Mr. Adams answered finally with a deep exhale to the hearing of Arissa.
Arissa shut her eyes, "I didn’t mean to. I’m sorry,"
"I know," he answered with an unaffected voice, knowing he deserves whatever name she would call him from now and also, whatever light she would view him at.
"I know who has it." he continued.
Arissa swallowed. Someone has it? Was the person a foe or an enemy to her father?
Arissa held on to the hem of her white towel as she glanced down at the beautiful penthouse yard from her window.
"Is the person a foe or an enemy?" she asked, not wanting to fill her thoughts up with that. There was no space for it.
"I don’t know about that for now. But judging from their history, he worked for your father and it seems like things had changed because right now, I’m waiting on an order from your father to wipe him off the earth,"
"Oh!" Arissa hummed. The story was complicated right now but to hell with that man! All she wants right now was the documents and the man can die or stay alive, she doesn’t care.
Her father must be either stupid or brave for him not to know a couple of his dark documents are out or, he knew but had no fear. Whichever way.
"He goes by the name Logan Paul and he would attend the auction," Mr. Adams informed.
He paused.
Hearing nothing from Arissa, he continued, "He also eliminated families, and also, he helped your father with hiding secrets and if you can place a good offer, you would be able to have him at your side,"
"And," he paused again, "Be careful. He is extremely dangerous. I would send you an image of him,"
Arissa swallowed skeptically.
Now she has to attend that audition?
"Okay. Thanks for your help," she thanked him, and then she turned to her door. There was a knock.
And without saying anything more to Mr. Adams, she dropped the call and walked over to the door.
She did not bother about her appearance as she anticipated it would be Rue - who she dropped Blu. with before leaving for the hospital.
She paused when her phone buzzed.
Looking at it, it was an image file from Mr. Adams. She immediately tapped into it and taking in the man’s face, she walked to her door but before she would place her hand on the doorknob to open her door for Rue, the door was pulled open from the outside, with impatient on her long-awaited arrival to just open her door.
And with the abrupt opening, her phone dropped on the floor with Logan’s image displayed on it as if she had been admiring him.
