Chapter 30: Bitten Twice

Chapter 30: Bitten Twice

Arissa looked at her father like he had just lost his mind. How in hell’s name did he think that a little manipulation as that is what he needs as a push to get her to do their bidding?

Initially, she was on her way to the hospital in a cab so she stopped off at her parent’s house to get her only last piece remaining there - her motorcycle.

It all sounded wired in her ears. The fact that her once-noble father is the one spouting out white lies as this for greed’s sake made her sick to her stomach.

"So Mr. Lincoln. You are saying all I need is to get this particular document from the Wyatt safe and I would be off this marriage hook?" she asked her father in a very polite and business manner as she looked into his eyes.

"That is what I mean Arissa. And not only that, Adele would get to meet her real parents," he added in an eager convincing manner as he sat up in his seat with anticipation.

Arissa’s brows lifted as one surprised, "Oh really?" she asked as one with second thoughts from her previous reluctance.

"You know what Mr. Lincoln?" She asked as she twirled her finger on the table looking down at it with calculations, "My answer remains NO," she deadpanned with her NO so bold.

Mr. Lincoln’s face paled in an instant, "Okay, you would also get a third percentage profit in the deal gain," he convinced with a little smile on his lips as he cursed inwardly.

"One question!," Arissa stated lifting a finger as she signified the figure ’one’.

"Go on," Mr. Lincoln agreed immediately giving Arissa no breathing space as hope filled his whole being.

Arissa’s nose scrunched up in disgust towards his impatient, "You are in so much haste," she noted with a taunting voice.

"To your question Arissa," her father spat out showing his annoyance with her delay and mind games. He would go insane now if she continues with this.

Arissa laid back in her seat with an amused expression toward her father’s new tune and aura. She was waiting to see how far he would go with his pretense of talking softly to her.

Arissa hissed in frustration, "I presume I would accept your wish if you give me a true reply concerning my question,"

Mr. Lincoln’s eyes shone in delight and that was a go-ahead for Arissa to ask whatever question she wants that would fetch the big shot document to him.

"Did you steal Adele?" the question was so straight as one with evidence and Mr. Lincoln’s face was sour in reply as he shrank back into his seat. His previous eager expression is now replaced with anger as he looked at her.

"And why did you say that?" he asked trying to regain his composure and not flatter before her.

Arissa’s glare turned hard and tight as she looked at her father interlocking her fingers together as she played them on the table, "It’s a question you need to answer Mr. Lincoln. Did you steal Adele?"

Mr. Lincoln took in a deep breath as he tried holding himself together. How did she catch wind of a secret as big as this?

"No,"

Arissa smiled prickly before narrowing her eyes at her father’s reply. One would believe it hearing him alone but sadly, his eyes said otherwise, and as usual, she works with people’s eyes and not their lips.

"September 12 1997 at Jade Hospital in collaboration with Nurse Hannah," she remarked with a calm smile like one talking about their love life to their peer groups.

"Need more information on that?" she asked looking around the living room with a smile. Her father followed her gesture but with a scared expression because an ear hearing this can cause a large problem.

He hopes this isn’t a setup by her.

"How dare you pour out lies as such?" He asked furiously as he stood up from his seat and band his fist on the table with a very furious face.

The only thing stopping him from slapping her right now is the fact that she spared her time to be with him.

Arissa rolled her eyes backward ad her father’s reaction, "Seat Mr. Lincoln," she ordered as one board with a performance.

"Remember I said just the truth from you and boom!" she made a wide opening gesture with her hands after saying the boom, "I would get you the documents,"

To be frank, she does not know how it would work out but surely, she would unfold and open up everything - first from her parents.

Mr. Lincoln still stood with forming anger expressing themselves from his red face. Arissa hissed as she used her left hand to palm her forehead.

"For the last time Mr. Lincoln, seat," she ordered him sternly with an additional frown on her face, and with great difficulty, her father placed his butt back on his seat.

"Now there you go," she smiled as she nodded her head in affirmation with his butt now on his seat.

"So where were we at?" she inquired rubbing her hand on her face as if she had a leaked memory concerning their discussion.

"Arissa to"

"Oh yes!" Arissa interrupted her father as she clapped her hands together, "So did you steal Adele?" she asked with a tune of finality.

How he wanted to take that smug off Arissa’s face, only God knows but before doing anything as risky as that, he first, need to lay his hand on those documents.

"That wasn’t what happened Arissa," he said slowly as he prepared some story with the short time

"Spare me lies Mr. Lincoln. It would save both of us time," she urged

Mr. Lincoln swallowed. If this is what he needs to talk about for that document, then so be it.

"I did,"

"You did what?" Arissa hissed in frustration as if tired of the prolonged conversation. Her father must be really stupid to confess this to her because, in the first place, there’s no way she would accept their idea just for a document.

Make him trust you - she scoffed replaying her father’s idea on how to get the document from Nicklaus.

"We did steal Adele," he clarified with no flicker of remorse in him.

Arissa gritted her teeth at the new revelation. Her parents are more demonic than she scaled.

"Where is Mother?" she desires to see that sneaky devil’s face right now.

And just as Arissa asked, the living room door pulled open and her mother walked in with some grocery bags in her hold, and Arissa’s neck straightened at the surprising sight.

"Speak of the devil, the devil appears," Arissa taunts looking at her mother, "I would think about your proposal Mr. Lincoln," Arissa formalize as she stood up from her seat and without wasting a second, she put on her dark tainted sunshade and left the house.

Mrs. Lincoln turned to her husband in confusion and back at the door Arissa just walked out from, "What did she say?" she asked with hope.

Mr. Lincoln sighed and stood up from his seat, "She is a hindrance." he articulated, little fear following his voice. "We would need to finish her off the moment we get the documents," a low light flashed in his eyes with the idea. How this information got to her, he had no idea but one thing is sure. He would not be bitten twice.
