Chapter 258: Disappointment.
"I would get back to you," Nicklaus said to the person he was on the phone with when he saw his door knob turned.
Ending the call, he dropped his phone and sat up, "Rue?" he called to know what the issue was before opening the door for anyone.
Outside the door, Arissa bit her lip when she heard his voice. Her anger increased. Here he was being all comfortable meanwhile her father was seated half dead wherever he kept him.
Her heart drooped and her eyes welled up in tears. She turned confused and tired of everything.
"Rue?" Nicklaus called again from the inside and when Arissa heard footsteps coming to the door, she hurriedly dried her eyes and cleared her throat.
Nicklaus opened the door and his poker face disappeared as his lips curled into a good smile. He loved seeing her.
Her presence calms him even in his darkest hours without her doing anything. He felt fortunate for having her as a wife.
Arissa stared at him, she tried to understand him. Does he feel anything for her to be doing this or he just felt like punishing her father? Whichever way, he has no right to hurt her father the way he was doing.
She saw the Leechs on her father’s body and she listened to each of his piercing screams. Does Nicklaus even think? Does he want to kill my father? She asked herself, more anger building inside of her.
Nicklaus opened the door to his study room wider for her to come in. And when she wasn’t moving, he fixed his gaze on her, "Love?"
"Don’t," Arissa snapped at him. "Don’t call me that,"
Nicklaus frowned, "What happened?"
Arissa’s cold gaze rested on him for a moment, "What are you doing with my father?" she asked sternly.
Nicklaus’s heart skipped a beat when he heard what she asked. He released a deep breath, "Come in first," he pleaded with her.
Arissa did not move. She stood rooted, unblinkingly staring at him.
"Please," Nicklaus pressed on for her to come in, his voice low and pleading.
Arissa sniffed. Staring into his dark eyes, she nodded at him, her tears filling her eyes as she walked into the room.
"Here." she passed his phone over to him after walking in.
Nicklaus gulped, he closed the door behind him before accepting his phone. If he had been wondering about who had sent words to her, he does not have to wonder anymore.
She just gave him her source and the scary part of it all was that she had strong solid proofs. She saw it from his phone, which means Daniel had done what he asked and had already sent it to him.
He fixed his eyes on his phone and watched the video she was watching with conflicted emotions in his eyes. He would have been happy but not when his deed was about to make his wife cry.
Nickalus rubbed his jaw in disappointment. He was disappointed that she found out this way.
He closed the distance between them and cupped her cheeks into his palms. He leaned his face in and drooped a deep kiss on the crown of her head.
He pulled his face away from hers and stared into her eyes, "Hey, I need you to calm down," he told her.
Arissa stifled. In the next second, she strongly pushed Nicklaus away and stumbled backward, "Calm down? That man there is my father and you are slowly killing him."
"Arissa, calm down," Nicklaus tried coaxing her. She needs to calm down for them to talk. Her emotions right now won’t solve anything.
Rather than calm down, Arissa turned her back on him. "I did not ask this from you," she said lowly.
Nicklaus’s heart tore, "I know," he agreed, "But.."
Arissa cut him off, "There is no ’but’ Nicklaus. What gave you the right to hurt my father that way?"
Nicklaus’s eyes widened and he kept shut trying to figure her emotions out before saying a word so he won’t annoy her more.
"Answer me, Mr. Wyatt, don’t stay quiet," she said coldly now keeping his title formal.
"Arissa don’t you dare give me such titles," Nicklaus’s warned, his voice turning hard, "Calm down and let us talk. Stop acting this way,"
Arissa turned to him, "Why should I not give you such titles?" she tutted, "You try to control my life like I am just one of your employees. You don’t ask for my opinion on anything and now you expect me not to give you formal titles?"
Nicklaus took a step closer to her. Her expression turned ugly and she took a quick step back.
She glared at him, warning him not to come any closer and when he did, she did not think about the consequences of her actions.
In her effort to keep him away so he doesn’t crumble the walls in her, she stumbled into the study room couch.
"That man tried to hurt you," Nicklaus tried to talk some sense into her. It surprised him she avoided him as though he was a disease because of that man who had never been her father in the first place.
"And that man is my father," Arissa snapped getting up to her feet. "If anything should happen_"
"Stop this nonsense at once." Nicklaus hollered calling her to order, "Do you think it was easy to watch you unconscious in bed? Do you know what I went through? Do you even think of any of that?" he threw questions at her, "Did you consider how I would feel before coming here to paint me as the bad person?"
Arissa stopped breathing when he yelled at her. She bit her tongue not getting carried away by his words.
Her father battled for his life wherever Nicklaus kept him and she has to save him. He hurt her and Adele but she doesn’t want him to be wiped off the earth.
Her kids should not grow up hearing tales that their grandfather died because of her. He should be behind bars. There, her children can visit him whenever.
"I don’t care," she spoke up.
Baffled by her words, Nicklaus asked, "What?"
Arissa tied her fists into balls, "I don’t care about what you went through. Alfred would always be my father and now, I want you to end those punishments he is receiving,"
Nicklaus’s lips parted in shock. He stared at her like she was a different person from him. Organizing his emotions again, he joined his lips together and nodded at her.
Walking away from her, he headed towards the door, and with a loud slam they startled Arissa, he closed the door behind him.
