Chapter 205: A Billion Dollars.

Nicklaus eventually raised his face from his laptop when his office door was pulled open. His hard unsmiling face turned dark seeing it was no one in his list of expectations.

His jaw thickened as he tried to reduce the unwelcoming aura that seeped out of him. Flexing his jaw, his dark eyes were filled with heated flames as he fixed them on the figure walking in.

Alfred made a warm gesture as he walked in. His chin was held high with a powerful aura like he owned the place.

Nicklaus watched the man and when Alfred got to him, he stared into the man’s eyes with his cold ones. An action that kind of put Alfred in his place as the man comported himself a little.

Alfred flashed Nicklaus a harmless smile sensing the frostiness his son-in-law emitted. With that smile on his face, he settled on the seat before Nicklaus without waiting for an order to seat.

Nicklaus left brow lifted from surprise at his father-in-law’s move. He thought the man would have a bit of moral education left in him.

Seems he has none, Nicklaus sneered in his mind.

With his arrogance back in his veins, Nicklaus ignored the man before him and went back to work. Typing intensely on his laptop, he fought every urge in him not to throw this man out.

A few questions crawled to the edge of Nicklaus’s head, begging him to let them off his lips and ask the disgusting man before him.

While Nicklaus was filled with resentment, Alfred was filled with admiration.

Alfred loved the intelligent glint that flashed through his son in law eyes while he typed the keyboard. Though those intelligent glints were admirable, Alfred knew they could be deadly.

He just has to say the wrong word for the man before him to figure his motives out the way he figured out whatever he was typing out.

Not sparing Alfred a glance, Nicklaus initiated, "Say what you want to say. That way, it would be fast for both of us. I have a lot more work to do and I could tell you did not embark on this trip just to stare at me."

Alfred frowned at Nicklaus’s rudeness. "I committed no crime, did I?" he asked with a neutral voice.

Nicklaus’s fingers paused and finally, he started at the man before him. He did not see this visit coming, nor did he expect it. He also doesn’t want to invest his time in it.

At least not with everything going on in Lincoln’s life. This visit was all suspicious. He has to be careful while he tackles it softly.

Nicklaus chuckled, his voice is stern. "Only those who have a few things under their sleeves would suspect that about themselves," he searched Alfred’s eyes, and the air turned charged.

While Alfred took the staring contest all seriously, Nicklaus found it entertaining. Deep into Alfred’s eyes, he could see a whole lot of emotions. Fear involved.

Fear? he chuckled.

From what he has come to know, this man was the devil and ultimately the devil has nothing to be scared about. He only has to think about how to infect pains into others. That was what he expects from seeing Alfred and not some cowering hypocrite.

Or was Logan’s medicine effective?

A ghost smile appeared on Nicklaus’s lips. "But you," he went on, "have nothing of much to worry about,"

Alfred frowned, with unknown fear, he gulped.

Nicklaus went back on his laptop again. As he said, he has a lot of work to take care of but that doesn’t mean he won’t have time when it comes to something about his wife.

Alfred’s visit was questionable enough to buy his attention.

Alfred sat up in his seat. Having made up his mind already on how to place his words to find out a few things, he began, "I was hoping we could extend the contract to strengthen our partnership. This would increase your benefits and share revenue. As you can see, my company still needs a hand to bounce back to its feet and I think your hand is mighty enough to do that,"

Nicklaus’s eyes were cold and flat, his expression hardened as he listened to each word that slipped out of Alfred’s lips. He expected this to be the reason for the man visiting and he also expected more.

Unable to secure any assurance from Nicklaus’s expression, Alfred went on, "Again, we are families and money would never be a burden to you. With a billion dollars, my company issue would be solved and we could continue our partnership," he ended more like an order than one who needs help.

Nicklaus felt shame at the man’s shamelessness. His thin lips parted to say a word but he shut them back. Cracking his knuckles on his desk, his gaze on Alfred did not wander.

"And if I refuse to help?"

Alfred blinked. "Refuse to help?" he cleared his throat, "That would only show how much of a monster you are. No one would find it amusing you refuse to help your wife’s father," he said to him, hoping to gaslight him.

Nicklaus smiled. "Since you know me so well to label me a monster, I’m sure you also know I do what I want without an inch of reflection concerning what people might think."

Alfred chucked. "I was only_"

Nicklaus cut him off as he wasn’t done passing his points across, "I seat here and work hard for my money with the help of no one. I’m entitled to my wife alone and if you think people could give me opinions on how to spend my money and how not to, I suggest you give your mindset a rethink. I won’t work for a grown-ass man to threaten me over it, using the title of being my wife’s father," he chuckled darkly, "That’s mirthful, don’t you think?"

Alfred was dumbfounded at Nicklaus’s refusal. He felt so many emotions rushing through him at the same time.

He hasn’t personally offended Nicklaus to get treatment as harsh as this from him. Coming here he figured out all of his problems with money leaving him.

A billion dollars!

That money could buy him the law, he could pay Cansandra to keep her shut. While doing that, he would also arrange a new set of thugs to work under him while he makes a change of strategy.

Also, with such an amount of money, he would have all of his rights again, and digging Mr. Adams out from wherever he was hiding would only be a piece of cake to him.

He doubts Adams knows he was out of Logan’s custody already. He has a lot of problems but, money could solve them all in the blink of an eye.

"What do you mean? I can’t have the money?" Alfred asked through gritted teeth as if demanding his right.

Nicklaus nodded. "You just hit the nail on the head. Now if you would excuse me.." he started at his beeping phone, "I have to take this call."

Alfred’s jaw tightened. When the call is over, he would be leaving here with his money. His life depends on that money and he doesn’t care about taking a life for it.

He has to protect his own life.
