Chapter 193: His Perfection.

With surprised emotion across his face, Nicklaus slowly took the glass of water away from her lips when she backed off the glass.

What have I done? He thought, his eyes darted between the glass of water he was holding and the woman before him.

He wasn’t able to accept he just fed a lady with no feeling of loathing running through his veins. His heartbeat fastened. It was so loud that he doubt it if Arissa haven’t heard it.

The sweet smile that was on Arissa’s face dropped and she forgot how to breathe seeing him so pale. "Nick," she immediately called him. His frozen expression scared her and the fact he kept on staring between her and the glass of water confused her.

Has he perhaps given her a liquid that wasn’t water? But that was water I had just drank, she thought.

Her hand stretched to take the glass from him but Nicklaus beat her to it first. He dropped the glass of water back on the table.

He picked up his cutleries and clenched his fork tight as some blurry images began to assault his mind and drown him.

He tried to keep them all in but it wasn’t possible. His face hardened and the comfortable air between them turned a hundred percent tensed.

"_Nicklaus," Arissa reached for his hand gripping his fork so tight, "What happened?" her voice sounded worried.

Propelled back to the reality of someone else before him and not his mother, Nicklaus blinked and his expression loosened up immediately.

"Arissa," he mumbled her name softly.

Arissa nodded. "It’s me, I’m here," she replied softly as she soothingly rubbed the back of his palm that was suddenly so hot as if he had been sick.

Nicklaus stilled at her words. Arissa felt his stillness.

She gently released his fork from his grip, which she successfully did as Nicklaus let her and when the fork was off, she weaved their hands together.

"I don’t know how long this would last but for the few moments we might be together, I want you to realize that I’m always here and would be here until we end this," her eyes went down to the fingers she entwined together and back at his face.

Nicklaus’s emotions turned confused as he listened to her.

Looking into his now confused dark eyes, she continued. "You always wanted to share my problems with me and now, I’d just return the favor_"

"No," Nicklaus cut her off, taking his fingers off her hold, "You do not have to return any favor. My world would never be a place you would love to reside in," he went on with a more gentle tune.

Arissa frowned. Hearing those words from him, it was as if her heart was pierced with a thousand needles. Those words hurt her most unreasonably and she felt like slapping herself to order.

’What are all these weird feelings? And what were those words I was spouting out? Why do I feel so genuine saying those and why do I feel abandoned by his refusal to let me in?’ all these thoughts slammed Arissa’s mind from both angles.

Nicklaus knew she never meant what she was saying. No woman would ever mean their words but still, he have to warn her so even if she wants to play around with his fears by using those words she just said to him, she should first have in mind his world isn’t a fairytale and would crumble her if she comes closer.

Arissa gave him a gentle nod and went back to her meal. They continued eating in stretched silence, the air around them turned thicker, and the only sound that could be heard was from their cutleries.

They were both uncomfortable with the silence but don’t know the perfect way to break it. A minute more, Nicklaus felt torn.

He parted his lips. "Your recipes are the best,"

Finally, the silence between them was broken as he spoke up first. "You know, I could kill people with my cooking," he added with a straight face.

Arissa smiled and the smile bloomed into a light crackle when she saw how serious his expression was.

"That wasn’t funny," Nicklaus said humorously as he drank his soup. He was embarrassed she laughed at his skills but still, he appreciated he was able to make her laugh again after the thick air just now.

"It wasn’t meant to," she replied, "Maybe when I want to kill my parents or Mr. Adams, you could just help me with a dish," she joked and now it was Nicklaus’s turn to turn amused by her words.

He smirked. Glad she finally gave him a role in her intended revenge. "I could prepare a feast if you want," he readily accepted the role, all focused on the wonderful meal before him.

Arissa laughed more but was careful not to choke. Her face turned red as she laughed.

Nicklaus was about to continue but when he looked up at her, his words seized up in his throat when he saw how beautiful she was.

Her dimples were gorgeously out on both sides of her cheek. Not only that, her eyes also disappeared due to the heartfelt laugh. He couldn’t agree less that she was perfection - his only perfection.

It was an excellent mark when he said she was breathtaking.

The laugh died down gradually only for Arissa to see he was all focused on her with his chin resting on both of his folded fists.

The living room suddenly felt hot. No, she suddenly felt hot. Her legs tightened as his eyes fucked her core viciously. She took in a deep throaty exhale.

Nicklaus noticed her reactions and with a dark chuckle, he warned, "Don’t think naughty else I make them a reality," though his previous gaze on her we’re out of admiration, he would readily give her what she just imagined.

Arissa’s face turned comically red from shame. She never guessed her split-second lust would be so noticeable to him.

She coughed awkwardly to lessen the sex appeal between them. Nicklaus’s lips curled up into a wicked smirk.

His eyes ran over her before returning to his meal.

Occasionally watching her and helping her with her fish bones, the food came to an end. Arissa took the dishes to the zinc while Nicklais cleared the table.

Nicklaus frowned when he turned to her, only to see her doing the dishes. His initial plan was to call staff over to do them but now she has started with them, he no longer could as she might get annoyed.

So, he decided to embark on the joinery of dishwashing for the first time. Sneaking up behind her, he took a hand towel from the towel stand and began to clean her palms.

"What are you doing?"

"I don’t want you doing this tonight. You should take a rest while I finish this up,"

"Honestly, you don’t have to do this," Arissa protested but everyone in her protest fell on deaf ears as Nicklaus focused on drying her palm with the hand towel.

Arissa stared down at her palm and how gently he was cleaning them. "Nick," she called.

He has been extra - should she use the word sweet, today? And she can’t pinpoint why.

"You cook so great and since doing the dishes is what I could help with, please let me do the dishes," Nicklaus told her, and with a light lean in, he kissed her on her cheek and immediately, Arissa turned heated red.

She thinned her lips. Doubts he would not be able to do the dishes obviously across her glimmering eyes. Nicklaus saw those feelings.

Hanging the towel back in its position, he lead her to the dining and with a little lift off the floor, he made her seat.

"You could sit here and watch. Scold me if I don’t get anything right," he told her, staring into her eyes confidently.

Arissa understood what he was saying but that doesn’t mean she understood why butterflies suddenly swam across her abdomen happily.

With assurance, he would back down after washing just a plate, she gave him a light nod while she waited for him to back down.
