Chapter 159: Comfy Bed

** Harper **

They stayed in the tub for a long time, reminiscing about stargazing and camping and many other things from back in the day. A few more shooting stars lit up the sky as they chatted, tempting Harper to make more wishes. Though every time when she closed her eyes and uttered the words silently, she kept them the same.

It was hard to think of anything else she wanted at this moment anyway, when the man of her dreams was right here and cradling her so intimately while they were both still naked.

As the hour drew late, the night breeze slowly grew cooler, making her lean further into Eli’s warm embrace. The heat of his body cocooned her so comfortably that before long, her eyelids started getting heavy, and she yawned as she nestled her head into the crook of his neck like it was a cozy pillow.

"Should we go back in?" Eli squeezed her shoulder, slightly shifting the arm that was looped behind her. "You look ready for bed."

"Mmm." Harper made a half sleepy, half but-I’m-not-ready-to-end-this-perfect-evening sound. "I just want to sleep right here on your shoulders ... you make such a comfy bed."

She felt him smile. Then a short moment of silence followed as he seemed to hesitate over his words. "Can you ... Do you ... want to stay for the night?"

Harper blinked. "I was assuming I would," she blurted the first thought on her mind. He wasn’t seriously expecting her to go back to her own room after ... all this? How would she even be able to fall asleep on her own like it was just another normal day?

The confirmation seemed to have made Eli palpably relax. "Of course." He kissed her on the temple again, as if that was the new favorite activity he had just found in life. "Come, let’s get you dried up."

And for the second time tonight, Harper felt like she had become a princess, utterly spoiled by every careful touch of her knight in shining armor.

The said knight apparently didn’t want her to put any effort at all into grooming herself, so she let him carry her out of the tub, place her on a mat draped over the rim, and wipe her down from head to toe with a bath towel. She let his eyes linger on whichever part of her body that he liked. Then she let him carry her back inside, still naked, because he insisted that the bathrobe she used earlier got dirty from falling onto the ground.

"I’m starting to think that I don’t need legs anymore," she remarked as they entered the bedroom, "since you’re going to carry me everywhere we go from now on. Not that I’m complaining."

Eli gave her a meaningful look at the not-a-complaint, though he did put her down when they crossed the threshold of the door. "Well, unfortunately you’ve still got to use those legs for a moment while I change the bedsheets," he smirked. Turning to the center of the room, he pulled the wrinkled linen off the mattress, and rose petals came raining down on them in a shower of red velvet.

Harper watched the flowers pool around their feet, turning into a carpet no less beautiful than the soft blanket from earlier. "I still can’t believe you did this," she marveled, once again intoxicated by the sight and the scent of their passion still lingering around the bed. Then a realization dawned on her. "Is that— Was that why the door to this room was closed last night? Did you already have everything set up yesterday?"

Eli paused while straightening the new sheets he replaced, looking a bit like someone caught doing something mischievous. "I ... Maybe?" he confessed. "Until Tyler ruined the mood, of course ... But on the bright side, I did get to see the prop in person and had a whole day’s time to make adjustments to it, so it turned out for the best in the end. The orchid colors didn’t fit in at first, for example ..."

He trailed off when Harper widened her eyes. "Um ... consider it a boost to the florist industry on this island?" he added, obviously not wanting her to judge him for being too picky.

Harper shook her head with an incredulous smile. And here he said he was the luckiest guy in the world to have her ... Shouldn’t she be the luckiest girl instead, to have someone who cared so much about making a romantic memory to last her lifetime?

Maybe that made them a good pair together, the lucky guy and the lucky girl.

She didn’t say those cheesy words out loud though. Instead, she hopped into his arms and gave him a happy, sweet kiss.

Harper had never slept with another person before, be it in the literal sense of the word or the euphemistic sense of the word. She had always assumed that it’d be hard to get a good night’s rest with someone else lying next to her ... But today, she was proven pleasantly wrong.

Maybe she was simply exhausted after a long day of too much excitement. Or maybe Eli’s mere presence was just ... too hypnotizing. The way he tucked her in so naturally toward his chest, the way his breaths fell light over the top of her head, the way his warmth and his scent suffused every inch of space around them and between them ... were just too endearing, like an intimate spell lulling her under. Despite every impulse to poke her head up and kiss him, Harper was weak for the beautiful feeling of simply being in his arms, and she didn’t want to move the slightest bit. Before she knew it, her mind had started to drift, falling into the sweetest dreams she’d had in years.

She dreamed of Eli. Of the two of them cuddling exactly like this on the beach, her face pressed to his chest, their bodies flush against each other. The sound of ocean waves crashed behind them, and the last ray of sunset filtered through the messy tangles of her hair, dappling his chin.

Then they were kissing. In a hot tub, under the stars. Their tongues entangled in a deep, slow dance, and the water sloshed around them as their hands roamed over each other, making tiny splashes in their wake.

Then they were in bed ... This very bed, still smelling of roses and their first night together. They were buried in a twisted mess of bedsheets, his arms gripping her tight and his hips grinding hard against her ...

Then a surge of heat blazed through her body, and Harper woke up with a sharp gasp.
