Chapter 95: Who’s the Culprit?

Enduring the excruciating pain, Dominique focused his attention on Athena.

"Athena, are you okay? Are you hurt somewhere?" Dominique asked her worriedly, his eyes checking her for possible injury.

Athena finally returned to her senses after that life-threatening incident. She just found herself engulfed by Dominique’s arms. He was lying on the floor while Athena was on top of him, being secured by his embrace.

She gazed up only to see Dominique’s worried look. And at the same time, he appeared to be in pain but she didn’t pay more attention to it. Instead, Athena blinked in surprise. She didn’t expect to be saved by Dominique.

’Sigh... Of all the people who could save me, why did it have to be him?’ Athena didn’t want to owe him anything.

"I’m fine," Athena nonchalantly responded as she tried to get up. Ashton immediately assisted her to stand up.

Lanny also ran in her direction. "Athena, are you hurt?!" She scanned Athena’s body from head to toe, making sure she didn’t get injured.

"No," Athena calmly replied. Falling from that height was nothing to her. She even jumped off the bridge once.

Meanwhile, Sasha and the other crew checked on Dominique who was still on the ground. He couldn’t move his right hand.

"Dom! Oh no... you got bruises... and your elbow..." Sasha’s voice was trembling in fear.

Athena reflexively cast a look at Dominique’s arm when she heard Sasha’s panicking voice.

’He got hurt after saving me... but I didn’t ask him to do that. It’s his fault.’ Athena thought to herself, narrowing her eyes on Dominique. She didn’t want to worry about him. She shouldn’t be concerned about him!

Soon, the standby medical team approached Dominique. They checked his injured arm and applied some first aid. His elbow probably got dislocated.

"We need to bring Mr. Smith to the hospital for proper treatment. He needs to get an X-ray." The medical staff declared to them.

"Miss Athena, you should go to the hospital as well. Let’s get you examined too," Bella suggested.

Lanny, on the other hand, had a different concern. She turned to everyone as she spoke up with a stern cold voice.

"Call the police. We need to investigate this accident! This is negligence on your part. How come you didn’t check or secure the harness?! I want to find out who is fucking responsible for this accident?!" Lanny’s words threatened the crew. They were so guilty for what happened.

How unfortunate for this accident to happen on their first day of shooting?

"All the props man and the crew can’t leave this venue. We have to interrogate everyone!" she added. She just hoped no one instigated this accident. Because if someone did, she would make them pay.

"Ashton, can you please accompany Athena to the hospital? I have to stay behind and investigate the real cause of this accident." Lanny was determined to unfold the truth. She had a nagging feeling about this.

"Okay, Miss Lanny. Leave this to me. I’ll take care of Athena." Ashton reassured her.

Soon, the medical team transported Dominique and Athena to a nearby hospital. They were accompanied by Sasha and Ashton.

Meanwhile, Lanny had already called the police to investigate what happened. As they waited for the police, Lanny checked Athena’s harness.

’This harness doesn’t appear worn out in the slightest. How could it break so suddenly?’ Lanny mused silently, her mind racing with suspicions.

A chilling glint flickered in her eyes as she made a startling observation. ’Damn it. This could be intentional. It’s possible someone tampered with the harness, cutting a portion of it, causing it to break under Athena’s weight during certain movements.’

As the crew members were gathered in the set, one of them sneaked out, going to the bathroom to make a report.

Melody booked a room in that resort while hiding herself from everyone. It did not take long before she received a message from her accomplice.

[ Ma’am, Bad news! Someone called the police to investigate what happened. What should I do now? Everyone will be interrogated! ]

Melody’s eyes widened after reading the message. But she was more curious about what happened to Athena. In her mind, she imagined Athena getting lots of bruises and broken bones.

[ What happened to the Bitch? Did she break some bones? Send me the video of the accident! ]

Melody bit her nail as she waited for his reply. She was pissed off since her father refused to grant her request of removing Athena from this product launch. So in the end, she resorted to doing this just to get her revenge.

Her phone beeped once again. She quickly opened the message. She couldn’t wait to see the video taken by her accomplice.

[ Ma’am, our plan didn’t go well. ]

Melody frowned and played the video clip he sent. In that footage, she witnessed how Athena fell after her harness broke. But to her disappointment, Dominique rushed in Athena’s direction to catch her. He succeeded in protecting her. But in return, he was the one who got hurt.

"Damn it! So useless!" Melody threw her phone on her bed after watching the video. She stood up, pacing back and forth across the room. She was thinking what she should do next.

[ Shit! Who called the police? ] Melody was both anxious and annoyed. Athena didn’t get injured. And now, someone has involved the police.

[ It’s Athena’s manager. ]

Melody’s eyes set ablaze as she recalled Lanny. She was also a pain in her ass. She hated both Lanny and Athena.

"These two bitches keep giving me troubles!" she complained while cursing them in her mind.

[ Just keep calm. Don’t let them know you are involved. Continue to feign innocence and deny everything. After this, you should lie low using the money I gave you. ] Melody instructed her accomplice.

[ Yes, Ma’am. I’m planning to do that. ]

[ Hey! If ever they find out that it was you who tampered with her harness, don’t you ever mention my name! Is that clear?! Don’t worry, I will reward you for your loyalty to me. ] Melody reminded him. No one should know that she was the mastermind. She was willing to pay him a big amount in exchange for his silence.

[ I will, Ma’am. I won’t betray you. ]

[ Now, delete our conversation and don’t leave a trace. ] Melody needed to be more cautious especially now that the police got involved.

[ At St. Luis Medical Center... ]

The doctor was done examining Athena. She didn’t get any severe injury aside from a bruise on her hand. Her body landed on Dominique’s arms so she had been secured by him.

On the other hand, the doctor was still examining Dominique’s injury. His broken elbow looked a little bit serious. The doctor was checking the severity of his injury, and whether he needed to undergo an operation or not.

Sasha had been pacing back and forth outside the examination room, worrying about Dominique. She looked so distressed.

That was the time Athena approached Sasha. She was afraid that Sasha would get suspicious of her or even get jealous because Dominique saved her.

’Sigh. How I wish Ashton was the one who saved me, not Dominique. I don’t want Sasha to misunderstand Dominique’s heroic action towards me.’

"Sasha... I’m so sorry for what happened to Dominique. I didn’t expect him to save me. I owe him..." Athena held Sasha’s shoulder as she apologized.

Sasha stayed silent. She just looked at her with complicated emotions. Part of her was jealous of Athena. She was also surprised when Dominique rushed to save her.

"Thinking about it, I guess... Dominique saved me to protect you." Athena consoled Sasha, trying her best to remove her jealousy.

"What do you mean by that?" Sasha asked Athena in confusion.

"If the same thing happens to Lina, I know your husband will do the same, protecting her... because he doesn’t want you to be in trouble. As the leader of this project team, any mishap involving the endorsers would ultimately reflect on you, leaving you accountable for any repercussions."

Sasha wanted to believe her words but part of her was still in doubt if he truly did it for her. Dominique was still mad at her.

"By the way, Sasha, do you think someone wants to sabotage our video shoot to get you in trouble? What if this is not an accident... but an intentional one?"

Athena received a message from Lanny. She suspected that someone tampered with her harness to cause this accident. She wanted to check if Sasha had something to do with it or not.

Sasha’s face darkened when she heard that. Athena’s words made sense. What if this was a scheme against her? She couldn’t ignore that possibility.

"If that is true... I won’t let them win. I have to find out who caused this accident." Sasha declared through her gritted teeth. Then she turned to Athena.

"Athena, I want to apologize for this. Fortunately, nothing bad happened to you. I hope you won’t back out because of the accident. I promise I’ll get to the bottom of this. And this won’t happen again." Sasha was serious. She looked sincere.

’Hmm. So if Sasha has nothing to do with my accident, who is the real culprit?’ Athena mused to herself.

For now, she felt relieved because Sasha didn’t appear to be jealous of her. Athena managed to divert Sasha’s attention away from her. She was now thinking about the possible suspect who caused the accident.

Surprisingly, she listened and believed Athena’s speculation.

’Dominique got injured because of this. I have to find out the culprit behind the accident. I will make them pay.’ Sasha swore to herself.
