Chapter 52: Suspicion

[ York City: Golf Country Club... ]

After leaving the mall, Dominique and Ashton headed to the Golf Country Club to meet the other members of the Circles. While waiting for the others, the two stayed in the clubhouse, having their refreshments and enjoying the view of the golf course through the large glass windows.

"Hey, Dom! This is driving me nuts! Am I the only one thinking about this?" Ashton tugged his hair as he turned to Dominique.

Dominique looked so calm, his gaze fixated on the crystal glass in his hand. "What do you mean?" he asked, leisurely swirling the remnants of his scotch.

"The young boy bears a striking resemblance to you! Am I just overthinking? Why is he connected to Gael? Could this all be a mere coincidence? At first, I really thought he was your son out of wedlock not until I saw Gael!"

Dominique took a sip of his drink. "What are you implying?"

Ashton leaned back, a contemplative expression on his face. "You know..." His voice trailed off, undecided whether to continue his words or not.

"Just speak," Dominique uttered in his cold voice.

"Oh... It’s nothing. Never mind." Ashton decided not to open Dominique’s wound. Mentioning Sabrina might ruin his mood.

Dominique’s gaze turned introspective for a moment before he spoke up. "Were you thinking Sabrina might still be alive and she could have been pregnant five years ago? Perhaps Gael is keeping her hidden from me, and Aaron might indeed be my biological son with Sabrina."

Ashton gasped upon hearing that. "OMG, Dom! Are you a psychic?! Did you just read my mind?"

A steely glint flickered in Dominique’s eyes, and his hold on the glass tightened. Just like Ashton, he had been bothered by Aaron and his connection with Gael. His mind had been busy thinking about those possibilities.

Sensing the subtle change in Dominique’s demeanor, Ashton attempted to lighten the atmosphere with a forced chuckle, waving his hand dismissively. "Hehe. I think we are just overthinking. You know... In this world, people often resemble each other. It’s just a coincidence."

"There is always one way to find out the truth," Dominique replied with a devilish grin.

He rejected the notion of mere coincidences. For as long as there was no conclusive evidence proving Sabrina’s death, he remained unwilling to dismiss the possibility that she might still be alive.

’Damn! I shouldn’t have brought the topic up. What is he planning to do?’ Ashton broke into a cold sweat as he watched Dominique’s chilly expression.

As the conversation between Ashton and Dominique turned into an awkward silence, the door of the clubhouse swung open, revealing Timothy Wilson and Oliver Jones. Their arrival was timely, disrupting the palpable tension that had settled in the room.

"Hello there! Lucky guy and his lucky charm!" A knowing smile played on Oliver’s lips as he greeted the two best friends.

"Hmm. The luckiest duo in York City!" Timothy grinned, waving his hand at them.

After the auction during the Circles’ Event, Dominique and Ashton gained the title of ’the Luckiest Duo’, Dominique for winning the bid, and Ashton for being personally invited by Athena on the stage as she performed.

"Hi, Tim and Oli! Join us. Where are the others?" Ashton invited them to come over.

"Richard is going to be late while Gael is babysitting today!" Oliver responded as he sat down next to Ashton.

Ashton just smiled awkwardly at the mention of Gael. "Yeah. We saw Gael with two kids in the mall earlier."

"Let’s wait for Richard before we start to play," Timothy suggested. He chose to sit beside Dominique, tapping his shoulder.

"How’s your wife, Mr. Smith? Didn’t she get jealous after spending five hundred million dollars for our Goddess Athena?" Timothy teased, pouring a drink on his empty glass.

’Dominique Smith. I pity you. You have no idea your wife is fooling around and having sex with another guy.’ Timothy’s eyes gleamed in satisfaction as he raised his glass in a toast.

"Shut up, Tim! You are the jealous one. Sasha won’t get jealous because I’m paying Dom back with five hundred million dollars," Ashton butted in, preventing Timothy from provoking Dominique further.

Ashton was sticking with his lie, making everyone believe that he was the one who went to date Athena on Dominique’s behalf. This was his way of covering up for his best friend so that Sasha wouldn’t get mad and jealous.

"Hey, Ash! What does our goddess look like? Is she pretty? Did you take a photo of her? Can you show us?" Oliver wrapped his arm around Ashton’s shoulders while pressing his fist on the side of his waist. He was urging him to reveal Athena’s face.

’Eh! How would I know?! Huhu. I didn’t see her myself.’ Ashton complained inwardly.

"Haha! It’s a secret. I won’t show you her picture. If you want, pay me twice the amount Dom spent during the auction." Ashton playfully elbowed Oliver’s body. He was good at pretending he had seen Athena’s face.

"A sly capitalist! I hate you. Go away!" Oliver gently pushed Ashton away.

"Well, what do you expect? We are all businessmen here," Ashton retorted, sticking his tongue out.

"Hmm, speaking of business, I’m planning to make Athena our hotel and resort ambassador! So I’m hoping that Athena can attend W Diamond Group’s product launch as one of their endorsers. I want to chat with her." Oliver shared his plan with them as he glanced at Dominique meaningfully.

"What?! Athena becoming W Diamond Group’s Endorser? Dom... why haven’t I heard this from you? You are the largest stockholder of W Diamond! As your best friend, give me a VIP seat during the event!" Ashton redirected his attention to Dominique.

"Hey, that’s fake news! Sasha is currently negotiating with my artist, Minerva!" Timothy remembered that Sasha wanted to offer an endorsement project to his top artist, Minerva.

"It’s not yet final. W Diamond Group will choose their target endorser through a majority vote," Oliver explained.

"Oh, whatever. I don’t care. I have my own goal. I will do my best to recruit her and be my artist! Athena will only be mine!" Timothy declared to them confidently, making Dominique twitch his eyebrows.

"Stop dreaming, Tim!" Ashton snarled at him. "My goddess still prefers me. Remember, she took notice of me during the Circles gathering. She also remembered me as one of her top fans!"

"Haha! I’m not dreaming, Ash. Or even if I’m dreaming... I will convert my dream into reality. Just you wait." Timothy chuckled.

"Fortunately, I have only a few competitors here. Dominique is out because he is happily married. Oliver will be out in the picture as well since he is already engaged with Melody. And you Ashton..." Timothy paused.

"Ahuh? What about me?" Ashton cocked his eyebrow.

"I’m far more handsome than you!" he teased, his gaze shifting from Ashton’s face to his lower body. "And mine is thicker and longer than yours. I’m confident I can take my Athena to heaven with my assets and skills," he winked, sensuously licking his lips.

Crash!

The banter was abruptly silenced by the sound of shattering glass. Dominique broke his crystal glass with his tight grip.

Despite his efforts to contain his rage, he found himself seething as he listened to the men’s conversation. All the talk revolved around Athena! And Timothy’s last remarks drove him to reach his boiling point.
