His Mistress is His Ex-Wife
Chapter 41: Arrival

Chapter 41: Arrival

The ferry moved steadily through the calm seawater, gradually drawing nearer to its destination, the Fortuna Grande Island. Athena’s heart filled with anticipation, eager for the reunion with her missing brother, Enzo.

"What do you intend to do after meeting him?" Vladimir broke the silence inside their cabin. His question hung in the air, carrying a sense of curiosity. It was directed to Lanny since he was unaware of Athena’s real connection to Enzo.

"He is now a fugitive. He is a wanted person in York City," he added nonchalantly. "Are you sure you want Kimmy and Aaron to meet their father? He has a criminal record."

Lanny glared at her brother for talking mindlessly. Athena was with them, listening to their conversation. And his words somehow hurt Athena’s feelings without his knowledge.

"Shut up, Vladimir! You are more evil than him. And you committed more crimes than him. You don’t have the right to judge Enzo." Lanny lashed out at her brother. She couldn’t bear Vladimir’s self-righteous attitude when he himself had a dark side.

The air in the cabin thickened with tension as Athena remained quiet in her seat. She must admit that Vladimir had a point. Enzo was now a fugitive. He couldn’t return to York City.

"Another question!" Vladimir raised his hand once again, ignoring the sharp gaze coming from his sister. "Five years had passed. What if he has already married someone, settling down on that island for good? What will you do? Will you tell him about the twins?"

Lanny found herself speechless, caught off guard by the unforeseen possibilities that Vladimir had presented. ’Honestly, these things didn’t cross my mind. He is right. What am I going to do?’

In the midst of her confusion, Lanny cast a glance at Athena and replied, "I don’t care. I just want to see him alive and well."

Vladimir cocked his eyebrow, casting a skeptical gaze at her. He knew his sister so well. She was a bit self-centered. When she desired something, she would go to great lengths to achieve it.

Her reply seemed entirely out of character, and it left him suspicious. She was not the kind of person who would suddenly give up.

"You’re lying," Vladimir responded with a smug smile on his face.

Lanny’s scowl deepened, meeting Vladimir’s gaze. Unknown to him, her response was rooted in Athena’s sentiments as Enzo’s sister. Fugitive or not... married or not, Athena would want to see Enzo again, to ascertain his well-being.

For Athena, as long as Enzo remained alive, she wouldn’t demand anything more. Lanny could understand her inner feelings.

"Just go away, Vladimir! Mind your own business. My plans concerning Enzo are none of your concern. I don’t have an obligation to explain or share it with you," Lanny declared firmly, ending the argument.

She even stood up, dragging Vladimir out of their cabin. She sent him out so that she could be alone with Athena.

Bam!

She locked the cabin door so that Vladimir wouldn’t be able to enter.

"Athena, I apologize for that. My evil brother has a sharp tongue. Don’t worry. I’ll cut his tongue off if you will ask me to do so," she offered, half-jokingly.

Athena just smiled faintly and said, "It’s alright. I didn’t mind it at all. But how about you? Considering those possibilities, what will you do once you meet my brother?"

Lanny fell silent for a moment, thinking about the situation.

"Athena, honestly, I’m not worried at all. Enzo and I didn’t have feelings for each other. And I don’t have a problem raising Aaron and Kimmy as their single mother. You know me... I’m not the kind of woman who will rely on one man. The reason I continued searching for him is not because of Kimmy... but it is because of you."

Athena was taken aback by Lanny’s honest response. She knew that Lanny was a strong independent woman, and that’s why she admired her the most. She tried her best to be like her.

"We just have to make sure he is living well on that island." Lanny tapped Athena’s shoulder. "Oh. But he still owed me a deal. He hasn’t fulfilled his promise yet. I need a male heir," she added, winking at Athena as she giggled.

Athena also let out a soft giggle. "What do you mean by that?"

Lanny grinned mischievously and said, "He still needs to give me a son. He must become my sperm donor."

"Are you serious?" Athena chuckled, pinching Lanny’s waist.

"Hey, I’m serious. I love your family genes. See, Aaron and Kimmy are charming kids. Aside from that..." Lanny leaned over and whispered, "Your brother is good in bed!"

"Naughty girl!"

The two ladies were still laughing when they heard the ferry horn, alerting the crews and passengers about their arrival at the port.

"Oh, we’ve finally arrived!" Lanny exclaimed cheerfully.

"Yes. Let’s take a look outside." Athena rose from her seat, grabbing Lanny’s hand as they stepped out of the cabin.

As the ferry disembarked at the docking port, Athena turned to Lanny, "It’s already late at night. Shall we head straight to Enzo’s house, or would it be better to wait until tomorrow? He might be fast asleep by now, don’t you think?" she inquired, her gaze scanning the shoreline of Fortuna Grande Island.

"Let’s rest for a bit. Luna already booked two rooms for us at the nearby lodging house." Vladimir, who emerged from behind their back, answered Athena’s query.

Lanny didn’t argue with her brother. Besides, they still had a one-hour journey by the road before reaching Enzo’s residence.

At the port, Luna, a woman in her mid-20s, greeted them warmly. She had been serving Vladimir for eight years now.

"Welcome to Fortuna Grande Island, Big Boss, Miss Lanny, and Miss Athena."

"Hey, Luna! My hardworking junior!" Lanny wrapped her arm around Luna’s shoulder. "Just wait, my little junior, I’m going to take you away from your devil big boss soon! I’ll make a request to my father."

Vladimir shot Lanny a cold sharp glare. He couldn’t give up Luna. She was one of his elite members, someone he could trust the most. "Back off, Lanny. Her loyalty is mine."

Luna just smiled sheepishly, trying her best to be neutral between the two siblings.

"Luna, don’t waste your skills serving this guy. You should be working under me. I will be the one who will lead the Ivankov Clan, not my brother." Lanny continued provoking Vladimir.

"Fine. You can have Luna." Vladimir simply responded as he moved closer to Athena. "In exchange... I’ll have her." Vladimir suddenly wrapped his arm around Athena’s waist.

Athena: "..."

Luna: "..."

"NO WAY! Athena is mine! She’s my sweetheart! My soul mate!" Lanny swiftly charged in Vladimir’s direction, wanting to separate the two.

Vladimir narrowed his eyes at her. "Soul mate? Sweetheart? I thought you came here to retrieve your real sweetheart, Enzo Williams? You can have Enzo. I’m giving you Luna too."

Luna put on a pitiful face. Just a while ago, the two siblings were fighting over her. Now, they were giving her away just because of Athena.

"Athena, who will you choose? Vladimir or me?" Lanny asked her expectantly.

Vladimir also glanced at her, waiting for her response.

Meanwhile, Athena darted her gaze back and forth between Vladimir and Lanny.

She smiled at them before saying, "I’ll choose... Luna!"

Luna: "..."

Lanny:*Looking sad*

Vladimir:*Staring at Luna with a sharp deathly glare.*
