Chapter 39: Guilt

Chapter 39: Guilt

[ At Smith Mansion... ]

"Where have you been? You didn’t come home last night. Are you still upset with me?" Dominique stayed in the veranda, waiting for Sasha to come home.

After leaving the Red Cherry Hotel, Sasha headed straight to W Diamond Group. Dominique and Sasha hadn’t seen each other for the whole day.

He knew he made her upset last night for not being able to satisfy her sexual needs. But he couldn’t force himself to do it. Besides, his mind had been preoccupied with Athena and Sabrina lately.

The more he thinks of other women the more he feels guilty for his wife, Sasha.

Meanwhile, Sasha didn’t say a word. She just stopped on her track as she waited for Dominique to approach her.

"I’m sorry, Sasha... I can’t fulfill my marital obligation to you. If you want a divorce–"

"NO!" Sasha quickly interrupted his words. Then she closed their gaps, hugging him tightly.

"How many times do I have to tell you? I’m willing to wait until you are cured. I will not ask you anything... just stay by my side as my loving husband. And be loyal to me... Only to me. Don’t look at other women, aside from me. If you can’t give me your love, Dominique... just give me your loyalty. That’s all I need." She needed reassurance from him.

With her lingering doubts, Sasha suddenly felt scared of losing Dominique– afraid that someone would steal him away from her.

Even though they had been living together for four years, sleeping in one bed and eating together... Sasha couldn’t feel Dominique’s love for her. It seemed that he could only see her as his childhood friend. Nothing more.

However, Sasha was so greedy and selfish enough not to let him go. She was obsessed with him. Even if this was just unrequited love, she was willing to stay in this marriage as long as she could stay by his side.

"So... please... don’t break my heart any further. Don’t ever bring up the divorce in front of me, Dominique." Sasha started to sob, crying in his arms.

Dominique didn’t know what to say. He could only rub her back and stroke her hair to comfort her. He just allowed her to cry, releasing her frustrations.

"I’m sorry..." These were the only words he could utter. "I’ll do my best... to make you happy." Dominique clenched his fists as he said those words.

He didn’t want to hurt Sasha’s feelings. He owed this woman a lot. She was a very special friend.

Being a faithful husband was the least he could do to repay her for all the sacrifices she made for him.

"Stop crying," Dominique mumbled, wiping her tears using his thumb.

Dominique admired Sasha for being patient with him. He also appreciated how she tried to understand his situation... his unique condition and his shortcomings as her husband.

He thought despite being a useless husband, Sasha still remained faithful to him.

"Dominique..."

"Hmm?"

"Let’s make our marriage work. I think... It’s the right time for us to try some other methods to conceive a child." Sasha took this opportunity to express her desire to bear his child.

Dominique was at a loss for words when he heard that. Though a hint of hesitation flickered in his eyes, he succeeded in concealing it from Sasha.

"Some people started to gossip that one of us is infertile. We’ve been married for four years now yet we haven’t conceived a child yet. People are talking behind my back, pitying me. They began to get suspicious of our love story. Let’s prove them wrong, Dominique."

"Let’s do artificial insemination!" she exclaimed with a hopeful look in her eyes.

Dominique stared at her for a long moment before he responded, "Alright. Let’s do that."

Sasha’s face brightened up when she heard his positive response. Her heart was suddenly filled with excitement and anticipation.

’Yes. I want to bear his child. If we have a baby then all my lingering doubts and insecurities will disappear.’

Sasha pounced on him once again. This time she was no longer crying as her tears were replaced by profound joy. "Thank you, Dom!"

"Come. I know you are tired and hungry. Let’s eat. Chef Min cooked your favorite food." Dominique diverted Sasha’s attention by bringing up dinner.

"Hmm. Is this your way of making amends with your upset wife?" Sasha finally let out a soft giggle. She was now back to her good mood.

Dominique just simply nodded, guiding her inside the house. And just like that, the married couple reconciled.

Sasha didn’t bring up Athena. She chose to believe Ashton’s words and put her trust in Dominique. She believed that Melody was just using Athena to provoke her.

’I think... I might be overthinking. Dominique has no reason to cheat on me. He is the most loyal person I’ve known. If there was only one woman who could come between us, it would be Sabrina. Luckily, Sabrina is gone, and she’ll never come back. Dominique is mine... forever.’

When it was time to bed, Dominique lay down while Sasha took a quick shower. He couldn’t shake the thoughts of Athena and the kisses they shared.

Instinctively, he glanced towards the shower room where Sasha was. ’She wants my loyalty... but I’ve already committed a grave sin. I’ve kissed Athena twice... and we’ve already been intimate. That’s already considered cheating, isn’t it?’

Guilt began to consume him as he thought about it. ’For Sasha’s sake... I must stay away from Athena... I’m not certain if I can handle the temptation brought by her.’

Though he was saying those words, deep down, Dominique was still drawn to Athena. When he was with her, his memories of Sabrina kept coming back to him. And he couldn’t let her go. He couldn’t move on.

The weight of his inappropriate actions weighed heavily on his conscience and he felt the need to compensate Sasha for his wrongdoing.

’Just tonight... I have to please her.’ Dominique thought to himself.
