Chapter 36: Rage

[ At Starlight Group: CEO’s Office... ]

Dominique was spacing out in his office. He had been staring at his laptop with a blank expression on his face. His mind couldn’t stop thinking about his short encounter with Athena in the Happy Store.

’My body is reacting to her touch. I can’t help it. The familiarity of her scent... her eyes, her lips, and her mannerisms make me helpless against her. I am being drawn to her... unexpectedly.’ Dominique admitted to himself.

His fingers subconsciously touched his lips, tracing them as he reminisced about the kiss he shared with Athena. ’That familiar feeling... brings Sabrina back to life. I can’t fight it. I can’t stop myself from craving for more.’

His mind warned him to stay away from Athena, but his heart was telling him the other way around.

"I don’t think this is just a pure coincidence," Dominique mumbled. "I have to mobilize my team and investigate her."

Relying on his gut feeling, he contacted Levi, the team leader of his private armed group. This group was known as Dark Rangers, operating under Dominique’s command.

"Sir?" Captain Levi was surprised to receive a sudden call from their Boss. This could be categorized as an urgent matter!

"Levi, I want you to investigate someone for me. Gather all necessary information about this woman, Athena. She’s from Country M and she is a singer celebrity, a global Ye-tube sensation."

"Oh, O-Okay, sir. I got it!" Levi was puzzled after receiving this unusual order.

’Is our Boss an avid fan of the Masked Songstress, Athena, that’s why he wants to unveil her identity?’

Levi was familiar with Athena because the majority of their members were also her fans. He even caught them watching her live on Ye-tube during one of their surveillance missions. He scolded them big time and forbade them to use mobile phones during missions.

"I will count on you regarding this, Captain Levi. I want an immediate result. Dig more information." Dominique was eager to unveil Athena’s identity.

He had a nagging feeling she might be connected to his ex-wife. He was holding on to the hope that Sabrina was still alive because they never found her body.

"I’ll do my best, sir!" Captain Levi reassured him.

When the call ended, Dominique fell again in deep contemplation. ’Same eyes, same voice... different face, yet familiar scent... What if... she is Sabrina? Should I stop seeing her or I should get closer to her?’ Dominique was confused by his feelings.

’If only I could confirm she’s gone... then maybe... I wouldn’t feel so lost like this. I wouldn’t even entertain the thought of someone resembling her. Argh! This is driving me nuts.’ He tugged his hair tightly as he gritted his teeth.

He wanted to put an end to this madness, but he found himself trapped in the whirlwind of uncertainty.

’Even if she survived... I guess the only reason for her return would be... revenge.’ Dominique smiled bitterly at that thought. Despite the possibility of Sabrina coming back for vengeance, he harbored a secret desire to see her once more.

[ At W Diamond Group: Marketing Department... ]

Surprisingly, Sasha came to work so late which was unusual for her to do so. Her team members quietly observed her, wondering if she was feeling sick and tired from her overseas business trip.

However, she looked like she was in a good mood with a broad smile on her face. She cheerfully greeted everyone before entering her office.

Advertising Coordinator: "Did something good happen to our director last night?"

Digital Marketing Manager: "Oh. Maybe she’s happy because she was reunited with her loving husband, Mr. Smith, after a long week of business trip!"

Marketing Analyst: "I am jealous of the married couple. They are the perfect pair. I wish to find someone like Mr. Smith. He is so cool!"

The murmuring of the staff was interrupted when the Assistant Director approached them, tapping a table. "Stop gossiping! We have some work to do!" Then he turned to Bella, the new marketing coordinator.

"Bella, have you prepared the proposal? I will present it to our Director. She doesn’t know that we are planning to recruit the Masked Singer, Athena, as one of our endorsers for our upcoming product launch."

Bella jolted when her name was suddenly called. She fixed her eyeglasses and glanced at their Assistant Director. "Yes, Sir. I already printed the material. Here." She picked up the document from her drawer, handing it over to him.

"Thanks."

Bella watched the Assistant Director with her hopeful eyes. She was excited to get approval from their Marketing Director. This was a golden opportunity to meet and work with Athena, her idol.

The Assistant Director knocked several times before Sasha let him in.

"Hey, Bella, nice suggestion! Athena didn’t cross our minds, but she’s a trending topic in the online world right now! I’m sure our Director will appreciate your input." One of her colleagues complimented her.

Bella smiled shyly, scratching her face. She wasn’t used to receiving compliments from her colleagues. "It just so happened our theme suited Athena’s mysterious vibe."

Meanwhile, inside the office, the Assistant Director submitted the proposal to Sasha. "Director, we had a meeting yesterday together with Chairman Williams. We told him that we only lacked one more endorser for our product launch."

Sasha nodded. "Alright. Did he approve of the endorsers I selected?"

"Yes, he’s fine with them." He smiled. "By the way, for the last endorser, our new marketing coordinator suggested someone during our meeting. Chairman Williams liked her idea."

Sasha stopped flipping the pages as she raised her head. "So who is the artist she recommended?"

"Athena, the Masked Singer! She’s a global sensation on Ye-tube. She has a lot of fans all over the world. And her mysterious aura fitted our theme." The Assistant Director supported Bella’s suggestion, failing to notice the changes in Sasha’s expression.

Her eyes darkened with rage at the mention of Athena’s name. She’s the reason why Melody was able to mock her yesterday and also the cause behind Dominique spending five hundred million US dollars in that auction!

"Who is the new marketing coordinator? Can you summon her in my office now?" Sasha commanded, trying to maintain her calm voice.

"Oh, Sure. Wait, I’ll call her."

The Assistant Director stepped out for a moment to invite Bella inside Sasha’s office. He thought Sasha would praise their new marketing coordinator for her great suggestion. He didn’t notice the chilly aura emanating from Sasha a while ago.

"Bella, come with me for a moment. The Director wants to see you."

Bella rose from her seat, feeling exhilarated. She followed their Assistant Director as he led her inside Sasha’s office.

"Director, this is Bella Campbell, our new Marketing Coordinator. You haven’t met her yet since you were abroad for the past week."

"Hello, Ma’am," Bella smiled warmly as she greeted Sasha.

Sasha maintained her blank expression. "Leave us. I want to talk to her alone."

Puzzled by her action, the Assistant Director had no choice but to exit the office, leaving the two ladies behind. When he was gone, Sasha spoke again, slowly tracing her steps toward Bella.

"Did you recommend Athena?" Sasha inquired sharply.

"Yes, Ma’am. I believe she is—"

Smack!

Bella’s words were abruptly cut off by a resounding smack. Sasha had slapped her across the face using the proposal that contained Athena’s name.

Bella was utterly shocked. She didn’t know what to do at that certain moment. She froze in her place, wondering what she had done wrong. ’Why did she hit me?’
