Chapter 235: The Culprit Behind the Hit-and-Run

Lanny and Aaron were preparing the things they would bring to the hospital. Lanny brought assorted fruits and packed them in a large basket. She did this only because Aaron insisted on bringing something while visiting Dominique.

"Mommy, can I tag along with you?" Kimmy asked her mother. Aside from visiting Dominique, Little Kimmy’s main goal was to see Gael. She knew that Gael was in the hospital.

"Just stay here with your Uncle Dmitri. Your brother and I won’t stay long in the hospital." Lanny didn’t agree to bring Kimmy with her. She couldn’t take care of the two children at once.

Kimmy pouted her lips, feeling a little bit disappointed.

"Besides, your Uncle doesn’t have company here. You should entertain him, okay?"

"But Mom..."

"Mommy, Aunt Athena is coming with us, right? I think Kimmy can come with us." Aaron didn’t want to waste any more time since he was dying to see Dominique. He wanted to make sure that he was just fine.

Lanny heaved a sigh of defeat. "Alright. You can come with us."

Kimmy jumped with joy and excitement while giving her brother an ’approve’ sign. She was grateful since her brother supported her.

Soon the three of them left Lanny’s condo unit. Fortunately, Dmitri had to meet Vladimir so he didn’t notice when Lanny and the children departed.

A few minutes later, at the hospital...

Lanny was surprised when she stumbled with Enzo and Alice in the hospital lobby. It looked like Alice finally heard the news of Dominique’s accident. Enzo mentioned it to her last night. And when Enzo told her that he would be visiting Dominique, Alice didn’t hesitate to come along.

’I knew it. She will come after hearing the news. Alice is connected to Dominique. And why do I feel like she feels so anxious and worried about him? Does she care about him?’ Lanny eyed Alice suspiciously.

"Are we all visiting Dominique all at once? I don’t think Sasha will agree." Lanny blurted out as she emphasized their large number.

Alice furrowed her eyebrows when she heard that. ’What is she trying to say?’

"You can go ahead. I think Aaron is longing to see Dominique. We can wait here outside." Enzo gave way.

"Mommy, I can go to Uncle Gael’s office. Can you accompany me, Daddy Enzo?" Kimmy butted in, grabbing Enzo’s hand.

Alice was taken aback when the little girl called Enzo ’Daddy’. She turned to Enzo, giving him a questioning look.

But Enzo just replied to her with a faint smile. "She just likes to call me by that name. Don’t give deeper meaning to that," he whispered in Alice’s ear.

Alice just nodded, not pressing further questions. Her concern right now was to see Dominique, her boss.

"Do you wanna come with us?" Enzo asked Alice.

She had no choice but to say yes. Enzo didn’t have any idea that she had a connection with Dominique so in his eyes, Alice had no reason to see or visit Dominique.

As Enzo, Alice, and Kimmy headed to Gael’s office, Athena arrived at the hospital lobby. She immediately spotted Aaron and Lanny. Without further ado, Athena approached them.

"So what happened with the sperm extraction?" Lanny asked Athena in a low voice.

"Gael already dealt with it. We don’t have to worry about that," Athena replied, reassuring Lanny.

Gael hadn’t told them about Sasha’s pregnancy because he was worried about how Athena would react. He thought Dominique was the father of Sasha’s child. The three of them were still unaware of Dominique’s unique condition. If they didn’t know about it, they would really think that he was the one who impregnated Sasha.

"Let’s meet the Bitch," Lanny mumbled, smiling wickedly.

Athena just bobbed her head.

Aaron held Athena’s hand as they took the lift going to Dominique’s VIP ward. Athena could feel that Aaron was nervous. His hand was trembling.

"Relax, Aaron. Your Uncle Dominique will be fine." Athena comforted the child.

He just bobbed his head, praying silently.

Meanwhile, inside the ward, Dominique had regained consciousness. His eyes scanned the room, searching for Athena and Aaron.

’Where are they? Are they safe?’ Dominique pondered to himself. He tried to sit up but he couldn’t move. All his muscles were aching. He also had a fractured leg.

"Damn!" Dominique cursed irritably when he couldn’t move his leg. "I need to find–"

Dominique didn’t finish his words when Sasha suddenly hugged him.

"I’m glad you are fine, Dom. You scared me to death. Don’t you know that?!"

Dominique stayed still. It was not Sasha whom he wanted to see upon opening his eyes. He needed Aaron and Athena.

"Where am I?" He asked her coldly.

He wanted to push her away but Sasha was hugging him tightly. She even started crying in his chest.

"I don’t know what I will do if something bad happens to you. I love you, Dominique. I can’t live without you."

Dominique’s expression remained stoic. He didn’t have any feelings for Sasha. Now, he regretted marrying her just because of their deal. He was trapped in a marriage with no touch of love.

"Sasha... let go of me," Dominique spoke up in his hoarse voice.

But before Sasha could do it, the door of the ward slid open. Melissa escorted Athena, Lanny, and Aaron inside.

Athena met Dominique’s gaze as soon as she stepped into the room. However, she saw Sasha hugging him intimately. Athena immediately looked away.

"Uncle Dom!" The silence was broken by Aaron’s tiny voice. He let go of Athena’s hand as he ran toward Dominique’s sick bed.

This time Sasha released Dominique from her tight hug, wiping her tears away. She turned around only to see Athena and Lanny standing next to Melissa. Then Sasha shifted her gaze back to the young boy who was now holding Dominique’s hand.

Sasha couldn’t help but see the resemblance of young Dominique to Aaron. ’This child... he really looks like Dom when he was still a child.’

Meanwhile, Dominique couldn’t take his eyes off Athena. There was a sign of longing and relief as he looked at her.

’I thought I was going to die and won’t be able to see her again... Argh... I want to hug her. But I can’t.’

Melissa, who was silently observing Dominique, noticed his facial expression. She turned to follow his line of sight.

’Wait. Who is he staring at with affection? Is it Lanny or Athena?’

"Can we enter?" A voice interrupted everyone from behind.

Everyone looked at the door only to see Clint, the Chief of the York City Police Department.

"Oh, Sorry. Did we interrupt something? I’m here to report the progress of the police investigation regarding the hit-and-run case of Mr. Smith," Clint informed everyone of the reason he visited Dominique.

Sasha stood up and strode toward Clint.

"Have you captured the culprit?" She asked him with urgency. She wanted to punish the person who hit Dominique with a car.

Even Athena and Lanny fixed their eyes on Clint, anticipating his reply.

"I have both bad news and good news," Clint said as he looked at his friend meaningfully.

"What is it?" Dominique urged him to spill the beans.

Clint just scratched his face before revealing the news.

"We’ve captured the driver. He is in our custody now. However, he confessed that the one who hired him to run Dominique over was none other than... Enzo Williams."
