Chapter 176: Jealous of Athena
[ At Athena’s Place... ]
"Aunt? Can I ask you something?" Aaron’s small voice snapped Athena out of her deep thoughts.
The two of them were sitting in the living room, watching television.
"Oh. Sure," Athena smiled tenderly, caressing Aaron’s cheeks.
"How many boyfriends did you have in the past?"
Athena blinked several times, just staring at Aaron. She didn’t know why Aaron suddenly brought this topic up.
"I only had one boyfriend. Why?"
Aaron smiled knowingly. ’Oh. This only means my father is her first and last boyfriend.’
"Can you describe him for me, Aunt? I am curious about him." Aaron gazed at her expectantly.
Athena’s expression shifted a little when she heard his question. After careful consideration, she replied to him.
"Aaron, he is a jerk. Nothing is worth mentioning about him. So don’t be curious about him." Athena failed to hide the grim expression on her face.
Aaron just fell silent for a moment, blaming himself for ruining Athena’s mood. ’I shouldn’t have asked her. I think... she still hates him a lot.’
Aaron nodded and diverted his gaze back to the flatscreen TV.
"Aunt?" he called her out once again.
"Hmm, yes, Baby?"
"Do you like someone right now?"
Athena was dumbfounded by Aaron’s question. But someone flashed in her mind after hearing that– It’s Vladimir. Her expression softened as she thought about him. Suddenly, she felt the urge to see him. She missed him.
"I think... I am already liking someone. But..." Athena paused for a few seconds, thinking about the current status of her relationship with Vladimir.
"But what, Aunt?" Aaron asked her with anticipation.
"But... our situation is a little bit complicated," Athena said, forcing a smile. Yet, Aaron could see a hint of sadness in her eyes, a reflection of the turmoil within.
"However... I really want to try, to work things out between us. He is a good guy," she continued, her voice soft but determined.
Aaron nodded in understanding, reaching out to squeeze her hand gently, offering silent support.
"It isn’t easy though," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I’m afraid I can’t give him my whole heart... because it’s already broken." Her words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of her pain and the lingering scars of her past.
Aaron gently patted her back using his small hand and comforted her.
"Aunt. No matter what you do, you have my support. If you truly like this guy then do give it a try. Don’t restrain yourself just because of your past. Your past doesn’t define who you are. At the end of the day, your happiness matters all. And I want you to be happy with the right person." Aaron expressed his support.
’It doesn’t matter if the guy is not my biological father... as long as my mommy is happy, I will also be happy for her. I don’t want to be selfish. Her well-being is my priority.’ Aaron glanced at Athena with so much love.
"Thank you, Baby. Come here. Give your Aunt a super hug!" Athena opened her arms wide, welcoming Aaron’s embrace.
The mother and son hugged each other for a long moment. Aaron’s presence helped her feel relaxed. She was so happy to be with her son today. She loved him the most.
Ding! Dong!
Their mother-and-son moment was interrupted by the ringing sound of the doorbell. The two broke apart and shifted their eyes to the door.
"I think your grandfather is here."
Aaron nodded as he smiled excitedly.
Athena rose from her seat and headed out to welcome their visitor. Aaron was following her from behind. When they reached the gate, the black limousine came into their view. The chauffeur was the one who rang the bell.
Miguel alighted from the car when he saw Aaron and Athena. He maintained his intimidating aura as he greeted Athena.
"Athena, thank you for taking care of my grandson," Miguel said in his casual yet firm tone. He wasn’t that friendly and approachable when facing other people, including Athena.
"No need to mention it, Don Miguel. I am indebted to your daughter, Lanny. I’m just doing what I can to be of help. Furthermore, Aaron is not a stranger to me. I always treat him like my own son."
Miguel was about to respond when Aaron butted in. "Grandpa, don’t be so harsh toward Aunt Athena. Please treat her well and be a little bit kind."
Athena was taken aback when Aaron reprimanded Miguel in front of her.
"Aaron, don’t say that. He is your grandpa. Be respectful. You can’t tell him what he should or shouldn’t do."
Athena turned to Miguel and bowed her head. "I apologize for that, Don Miguel." Athena was unaware that Miguel doted on Aaron so he didn’t mind Aaron’s words earlier.
Miguel was just secretive to Athena, Lanny, and Vladimir when he started spoiling his grandchildren. He didn’t show it in front of them.
Miguel and Aaron exchanged meaningful glances with one another. Soon, Miguel cleared his throat.
"It’s alright. Athena. No need to apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong."
Aaron gave Miguel a grateful smile when he heard that. At least, the old man listened to his request.
"I’m here to take Aaron," Miguel declared then he turned to the young boy. "Say goodbye to your Aunt Athena."
Aaron bobbed his head. "I have to go now, Aunt. But don’t worry. I’ll visit you again. Don’t forget about your promise. We are going to Amusement Park!"
Athena crouched down and caressed Aaron’s cheeks. She hugged him for one last time. "Yes. You can visit me anytime. I will tour you around the city." She promised.
Miguel was just silently observing the two. He darted his gaze back and forth between Athena and Aaron. Then he frowned deeply as he realized something.
’Why do I feel like Aaron is more attached to Athena than to his own mother, Lanny?’ Miguel wondered. ’What does my grandson see in this woman that makes him so fond of her? First, it was Vladimir, and now, my grandson.’
’I feel uneasy about this. She is so mysterious. I don’t trust her. I feel like Athena is going to take away my son and my grandson from me. I won’t let that happen.’
The old man was jealous of Athena.
