Chapter 148: The Stranger

[ At York City International Airport... ]

Lanny kept checking her wristwatch while scanning the arrival lounge. She had been waiting for Dmitri De Luca to pass through the arrival gate.

"What happened? Did he have a delayed flight? He should have been here already." Lanny complained, pacing back and forth at the entrance of the arrival gate.

Vladimir just leaned on the wall, with his arms folded across his chest.

"Can you stop walking back and forth in front of me? You are making me dizzy."

Lanny halted on her steps and turned to face Vladimir. She shot him a cold sharp glare.

"Shut up, V. We’ve been here for one hour and a half. But he hasn’t arrived yet. Our father told us about the estimated time of Dmitri’s arrival. Don’t tell me this is just a prank?" Lanny complained, annoyed by the situation.

Vladimir could only sigh helplessly. "Don’t yell. You are embarrassing me. People are looking at you."

"I don’t care about those people asking. It’s best for me to leave or else, I might punch someone once I see him."

Lanny turned around and was about to leave when Vladimir spoke again.

"Our father ordered you to take care of Dmitri. Are you disobeying his command? Don’t tell me you are passing that responsibility to me?" Vladimir gave her a warning look.

"If you dare take another step, I’ll inform that tyrant that you are not following his instructions," he threatened Lanny.

Lanny automatically halted on her steps. She couldn’t afford to offend and anger her father. She needed to please him and gain more favor from him.

"Yes. I understand. But damn! What took him so long? I’m losing my patience now." Lanny pouted her lips, stomping her feet like a kid throwing a tantrum.

"Hey, V! Have you met Dmitri? I haven’t seen him yet, even once! What does he look like?" she asked her brother curiously.

"What if he is an ugly fat old man? I definitely won’t marry him no matter what! So prepare yourself for meeting Freya De Luca!" she added.

Vladimir furrowed his eyebrows when he heard that. "The De Luca family is very cautious and meticulous. Dmitri and Freya are both precious children of the De Luca."

"So what?" Lanny interrupted him.

Vladimir sighed, rubbing the space between his eyebrows. "This means... no one aside from their family members and close friends had seen their faces. Their identity is hidden from the public for their safety."

"In short... just like you, I haven’t seen him yet."

Lanny’s jaw dropped in awe upon hearing Vladimir’s revelation. "What?! I thought you’d met him already."

Vladimir shook his head. "I didn’t. Only our father met him personally. Why don’t you ask the twins? Our father brought the kids to De Luca’s mansion to meet him."

Lanny arched her eyebrow. "Don’t involve the children here."

"Alright. Then you have to wait for him. I’m going to leave now. Don’t worry. I already dispatched my men around the airport. They will keep you safe from behind." Vladimir decided to leave.

Miguel Ivankov, their father, had given this task to Lanny. So he was letting his sister do her task. Vladimir didn’t want to waste his time. He already had provided her with support.

Lanny wanted to go home already, feeling a little bit tired. However, she had no choice but to stay until Dmitri arrived. She could only watch her brother leave.

She sat on the bench, facing the arrival gate. It did not take long before someone also sat down next to her. She just ignored that person since her eyes were fixed on the arrival gate.

"I should ask Dad about Dmitri’s number," she mumbled.

She typed her message, feeling determined. Though she didn’t want to bother her father, he was the only one who had a direct connection with Dmitri De Luca.

[ Dad, can you give me Dmitri’s phone number? I don’t know how to contact him. Are you sure he has my number? I didn’t receive any message from him. I don’t know his current location right now. ]

Lanny glanced at her phone, anticipating her reply when suddenly a man sitting beside her spoke up to catch her attention.

"Miss, do you have a charger? May I borrow? My phone’s battery went down."

Lanny turned to the man and frowned. She found a man wearing a mask and a cap with his backpack lying on his lap.

"What type of charger?" she asked him.

"C-type," he replied in his baritone voice.

Lanny didn’t pay much attention to the appearance of the guy. But sensing he was in need of a charger, she decided to let him use her charger.

"Here, use this for the meantime." Lanny handed her phone charger over to him.

The guy accidentally held her hand when he was going to accept the charger.

Lanny just frowned. "Don’t touch me like that otherwise, I’ll think you are a pervert."

"Oh, I’m sorry." He immediately let go of her hand, bowing his head to apologize.

"Okay. Not a big thing. I forgive you," Lanny replied nonchalantly. Then she turned her gaze back to her phone. Her father hadn’t replied yet.

"Are you waiting for someone?" The guy initiated another conversation with Lanny.

"Yes. I’ve been waiting for someone. But he hadn’t contacted me yet. I’m already pissed off. I hate people who are always late!" Lanny vented out her frustration.

The guy let out a soft chuckle, watching her in amusement.

"We are the same. I’m also waiting for someone. I’ve been here for two hours now. I just grabbed some food because I got hungry. Do you want some?" The guy offered her a sandwich.

But Lanny politely refused him. "Oh, No. I’m okay. I’m already full. I’m not hungry."

The guy just nodded before putting the sandwich back in his paper bag. He started charging his phone and accompanied Lanny on the bench. Both of them were staring at the arrival gate.

"Who are you waiting for?" The guy spoke again. He sounded so friendly so Lanny responded to his query.

"Just an old acquaintance of my father," She replied. "How about you?"

"My wife," he said, a hint of humor in his tone.
