His Mistress is His Ex-Wife

Chapter 103: Result

Dominique surprisingly became so clingy today, not letting go of Athena. He didn’t know what had gotten into him. It’s just that he didn’t want to be alone tonight.

Furthermore, he overheard Athena talking to someone over the phone earlier. She called him Vladimir or V. After eavesdropping, he found out that this guy would be waiting for her at her place.

Then the guy who sent Athena home last time popped up in his mind. He wondered if that ’Vladimir’ was the same guy he saw in Athena’s place.

"I want you to stay," he commanded her. He didn’t want them to meet.

On the other hand, although Athena was hesitant, she couldn’t ignore Dominique’s request. She needed to cooperate with him if she truly wanted to gain his affection.

For now, their relationship was just purely physical intimacy. No feelings are involved yet. She wanted him to fall for her so that she could also break his heart later on.

’Alright. I will keep him company for now. But I’ll go home later once he falls asleep.’ Athena thought to herself since Vladimir was waiting for her.

Heaving a sigh of defeat, Athena responded to Dominique’s plea. "Okay. I’m staying."

Dominique let go of Athena, giving her a grateful look.

"What do you want to eat? I’ll order our dinner. I can’t cook for you tonight." Dominique showed her his injured arm which was wrapped in an arm sling.

"You shouldn’t have left the hospital. They were not yet done examining your injury. Don’t you need an operation to fix your broken elbow?"

"No. I don’t need it. I just need to keep it like this and it will eventually heal after three weeks. My injury is not severe." Dominique informed her.

"Good to hear. Anyway, thank you for saving me there." Athena expressed her gratitude, although she wasn’t one hundred percent sincere.

"By the way, I’m not yet hungry. You can just order what you want." Athena walked toward the door. She didn’t want to stay in that master bedroom with Dominique. She was just being reminded of their intimate moments when they were still a married couple.

She felt relieved when she finally got some time alone. She decided to go outside to breathe fresh air. She chose her favorite spot on the balcony, facing the villa’s garden. The landscape of the garden didn’t change either.

She sat there, appreciating the beautiful scenery of the different flowers. Soon, her eyes turned cold as she reminisced about the past.

’Dominique was so harsh and inconsiderate. How could he give me this villa after forcing me to sign the divorce paper? Did he want to torture me, knowing that this place held so many memories of ours being a sweet and loving couple?’ Athena smiled bitterly at that thought.

The pain and scar in her heart hadn’t healed yet. She was still affected by those memories which turned out to be some part of Dominique’s lies and deceptions.

’Never again... Sab. You should remember your lesson. Guard your heart against Dominique.’ She reminded herself over and over again. She didn’t want to commit the same mistake.

While Athena was having her "Me" time on the balcony, Dominique stayed in their master’s bedroom. After washing up, he lay down on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

He was having conflicting thoughts right now, wondering if he made the right decision or not.

"I’m crazy for making a deal with her. Perhaps, I’m still hoping that she is Sabrina... not the dead body we discovered today."

Dominique placed his left hand over his forehead, covering his eyes. Just thinking about losing Sabrina forever, he couldn’t help but tear up.

"This is all my fault..." he murmured to himself, trying to hold back his tears.

But no matter how much he regretted it, he couldn’t bring Sabrina back. He was still lost in his thoughts when his phone rang. Dominique reached out and answered the call. It was a call from the Chief of YCPD, his friend, Clint.

"Dominique... we extracted one tooth from the skeletal remains to compare it to your ex-wife’s DNA. The result will come out tomorrow," Clint informed him and he continued, "However we have the other result of the comparison of her X-ray records and dental records. Do you wanna hear the results now or do you want to wait for the DNA test results?" He paused for a moment, waiting for Dominique’s response.

Dominique just listened to him from the other line, contemplating. ’Should I hear it now? Am I ready for this?’

After a few minutes of his silence, Dominique finally spoke up, answering Clint.

"Fine. Tell me what you find out." Dominique’s heart was rapidly beating against his chest. He was anxious about the result. He just wished that those medical and dental records didn’t match.

"Dom... the records are matched... both the dental and x-ray records."

Dominique felt like his world just stopped and crumbled when he heard that. His last hope had been shattered by this piece of news. He didn’t know how he would accept this.

Thud!

The phone slipped away from his hand, falling to the floor. He had no energy to hold it after hearing this sad news.

"Dominique? Are you still there? Can you hear me?" Clint called his attention but Dominique was no longer listening to him.

’Does it mean... Sabrina is gone and will never be coming back?’ Dominique didn’t know how he would embrace this reality. He felt suffocated. His heart clenched inside his chest.

’No!!! This can’t be!’ Dominique shook his head frantically. ’How can I atone for my sin? How can I ask for her forgiveness if she is gone? How?!’

Dominique’s vision was blurred by his tears. He started to cry while his body trembled violently. He clenched his left fist and started punching the wall until it bled.

Not yet satisfied, Dominique started to throw things, turning the room into chaos. The crashing sound coming from the second floor had caught Athena’s attention.

"Huh? What’s going on up there?" Athena mumbled in confusion. She could hear the sound of glass breaking.

Without further ado, Athena dashed inside the house to find out what was happening to Dominique. Upon reaching the master’s bedroom, Athena gasped in horror. A great mess greeted her sight. Dominique’s left hand was covered in blood.

Her breath caught in her throat as she observed Dominique, his hand clutching a jagged shard of glass, its pointed edge dangerously close to his neck. Their eyes locked, and in that moment, Athena saw the anguish etched into Dominique’s gaze.

"Dom! Put it down..." Athena’s voice trembled with alarm, her heart racing as she pleaded with him to drop the sharp object in his hand.

"Please don’t hurt yourself. Talk to me. What’s wrong?" She slowly approached Dominique, wanting to stop him.

"She’s gone... my fault..." his voice trailed off.

Athena couldn’t understand him. Dominique’s emotions were unstable.

’What’s wrong with him? What triggered him to do this? What did Sasha do for him to behave this way?’ Athena thought Sasha was the reason why Dominique was behaving like this. Besides, she learned from Ashton that the two had a serious argument.

Dominique remained motionless in his spot while Athena slowly traced her steps towards him. When she reached him, Athena immediately grabbed his wrist.

"Release it, Dom... please."

Dominique just stared at her intently. She was able to calm him down because of her voice... the similar voice of Sabrina.

He finally let go of the glass shard. Then Athena pulled him out of the room. She dragged him to the living room, making him sit down.

"Sit here. Don’t move. Where’s your first aid kit? Let me treat your wound. Do you intend to injure both your hands?" She scolded him.

Dominique didn’t say a word. Feeling frustrated, Athena had no choice but to find it herself.

’Damn it! There is no way I can leave him alone. He might do something again.’

Meanwhile, Vladimir had finally arrived at Athena’s place. He switched on the light. Then his eyes scanned his surroundings. He couldn’t help but smile just thinking about her.

"Lanny started to trust me completely... I guess... Athena will finally open up with me completely." Vladimir was looking forward to hearing about Athena’s past... the reason for her revenge.

Vladimir sat down as he checked his phone. Athena hadn’t messaged him yet. He wondered if she was already on her way home. He decided to send her a message.

[ Athena, I’m here at your place. Tell me if you are on your way. Have you eaten? If not, I’ll buy some food. Let’s eat together. ]

Vladimir sent his message excitedly, not knowing that Athena couldn’t go home tonight because of Dominique. She hadn’t notified him yet since she became busy taking care of Dominique’s wound.

Three hours had passed but Athena didn’t reply to him. Vladimir drifted off to sleep while waiting for Athena. However, Athena didn’t return home.
