His Mafia Prince -
Chapter 99: All I Ask
Chapter 99: All I Ask
(MILES)
I wanted to sleep but it ended up eluding me. I try to force it but that’s extremely hard, considering the anxiety eating at me. Having Arlo in my arms doesn’t exactly help either. I feel the warmth of his lithe body every time he shifts and it makes me hard. It’s almost impossible to ignore him.
For the next few hours, I stay awake. I listen to Arlo’s soft breaths. I’m glad that he finally fell asleep. He was so wound up earlier and for a minute, I thought he wouldn’t sleep. To ignore the arousal, I play every possible scenario that might happen when Dalton comes back.
They will be all armed with guns, so it is important that we catch them totally unaware. The fishing poles are sure no match for bullets unless they never see it coming. I’m hoping and praying that my decoy plan works. Needing to trust Arlo to play his part is asking a lot of me. Sasha is one of the few people that I trust with my life. But soon enough, I’ll have to put that trust in an omega that wants me dead.
I’m not sure what time it is, but I get up and go to one of the farthest corners of the room to urinate in one of the empty water bottles. There’s no way in going to battle with my bladder full. By the time I come back, I find Arlo sitting up with his legs on the edge of the bed.
"I actually slept," he says, rubbing his eyes roughly.
"Yes," he says, lifting the dummies carefully off the ground."
He gets up. "I need to pee."
"Alright, then do it," I say, laying one of the dummies on the bed. I think sitting up in fear for our lives is something that Dalton might believe. He wants us to dread his return. He wants us to be scared. Lying down will seem suspicious to him. I glance at Arlo and find him still standing there astounded. "I thought you wanted to pee?"
"I do." He says, biting his lip. "it’s disgusting to pee where you sleep."
"It’s funny how that thought crossed your mind when it was just me down here."
"You were my prisoner at that time." He says, guilt shifting through his eyes. "It’s not like you were my house guest."
His snippy tone makes me squint. "Alright then, how about you figure out where to piss on your own?"
"I will figure out a place." He says scowling. " I was just wondering how you handled the situation. Excuse me if I don’t like the idea of soaking in urine."
"I wouldn’t worry about that," I say, going back to get the other decoy. "We’re either going to be out of here, or dead in a few hours."
He swallows thickly and then heads to the corner of the room.
I have both the dummies staged by the time he comes back. I have the smaller one propped on the cot, and the other one propped as if standing beside it. I hope they fool Dalton and his goons long enough for me to do what I need to do.
Arlo looks at the set-up decoy. "what if it falls over as they approach it?"
"I hope that they think I will have fainted out of fear." I sound sardonic and he laughs, which surprises me. I meet his gaze. "You want to know the plan?"
"That would be nice." He says, rubbing his trembling hands together.
I grab two of the fishing rods and then hand one to him. He takes it and fingers the tip. "I’d be so much happier if this was sharp."
"Beggars can’t be choosers," I say, moving closer to the stairs. "When they come down the stairs at first, their eyes should adjust to the dim light. My guess is Dalton will hold back and let his guys come down first."
"Who knows, he might decide to bring more men than he came with yesterday."
"I don’t think he will. He will surely want as few men as possible to know that he turned on you. Just like you brought only yellow eyes with you. Loose ships sink, right?"
"Right." He dips his chin. I think those assholes murdered Marcus."
He sounds upset at that, which is so unlike him because Arlo isn’t one to show emotions. Or maybe it is just a front he puts. "Were you close to him?"
He sighs. "I’ve known him since we were little. He’s been loyal to our family since we were kids."
"I see." He wants me to buy into the fact that he only cared because Marcus was loyal. I’m not dumb enough to buy that. "Good men are hard to come by."
When you went looking for Tyler at Mortus’ clinic, you roughed him up a bit then let him go, unlike Sasha would have." Arlo winces. "And now he is probably dead."
"That was him?" I ask.
"Yes."
"Or maybe he is alive," I say to console him.
"I doubt that." He droops. "If he was alive, he would have tried to help me by now."
"I see."
I don’t have time to worry about yellow eyes now. Then again, I don’t want to piss off Arlo by seeming overly callous
I don’t say anything again and he glances at me, his face hardening. "So tell me where do you want me to be?"
I’m glad that he is finally back on track. I lead him toward the stairs. Beside either side of the stairs are short walls. At the edge of either walls are shallow alcoves that should be enough for us to hide. Yellow Eyes and Arlo were too familiar with the layout of the cell for me to hide in the alcoves. But Dalton and his goons seem less familiar with this space. I hope that that works to our advantage.
"Once they come down the stairs," I begin, "I’m sure they’ll glance to the sides just to be sure that we won’t be standing there. I’m only hoping that they don’t know of the hidden spaces in the cellar. This is the only option that we can work with. We have to catch them by surprise, or else we are dead meat."
"We have to wait until Dalton descends the stairs fully. Then we pounce. Okay?" I do my best to sound confident in the plan when in truth, I know that it’s going to take a miracle for us to walk out of here alive. Especially the two of us. The odds don’t favour us. Even so, I will not lie around and wait to be killed.
Arlo agrees but I can tell that he is uneasy. He is not that dumb. He too knows that our chances of surviving down here are slim.
"Can you take two of them at ago?" I ask. "Because once Dalton is down, we both have to move at once. We have to be coordinated. I’ll help you if need be. But I need to make sure that Dalton is dead first."
He shrugs. "I’ll do my best. I don’t know these guys, but I’ll try my best and do what I can. Who knows, they could be amazing at hand combat and they will kick my ass."
I frown. "You said you can handle a fight."
"And I can. All I’m saying is I can give my all. I don’t know these guys."
Anxiety gnaws at me. I can’t take on three guys at once. "Don’t go into it with a negative attitude."
He opens his mouth to speak and from his surly expression, I assume that he is going to give me some smart-ass retort. He doesn’t. Instead, he purses and nods. "I’ll fight him with everything I got, Miles, okay?"
"Okay. That’s all I ask."
