Chapter 292: Chapter 216 - In the Office Building-101_1

The office building’s room -101 is the largest conference room in Jiuyou Academy.

Usually, it only hosts various meetings organized for professors. Occasionally, high-level delegations from the Wizard Covenant or diplomatic envoys from other worlds would choose this room as the place for their meetings and receptions during their visits to the school.

Therefore, the academy aimed to reflect the awe-inspiring prestige of Jiuyou in the interior design of the conference room.

Following the logic of the old-school wizards, nothing is more direct and striking than ’great’ and ’empty’. Therefore, they expanded the space of the conference room and stretched it in all directions; they faded the walls and windows, filling the emptiness at the end of the room with endless darkness. They even plucked many little stars from the starry sky and adorned them across the room, serving as a source of light for the meeting room.

Having a meeting in this room feels like you are situated in the universe, inducing a spontaneous feeling of insignificance.

The guests with insufficient capabilities are easily intimidated in such a setting- it’s a popular joke around the school that a little prince from a foreign realm was so overwhelmed by the size and openness of the conference room that he dared not walk at all, crawling all the way from the entrance to the conference table.

This incident amused many students of Jiuyou, satisfying their unique sense of pride.

The conference table is also the core of this meeting room. It is located in the center of the void, oval in shape, with high-back chairs meticulously arranged around the table, soft leather seats, and no armrests.

The table is suspended in the void, with endless darkness beneath it and a coiling giant dragon above.

This is a dragon-shaped lamp, beautifully decorated with an unique design. It is adorned with antlers made of coral trees that have lived for tens of thousands of years, eyes made of blue luminous pearls, and is constructed with golden branches as bones, jade as blood, and tung tree leaves as scales.

To demonstrate their prestige, those old wizards even chopped off the claws of a South Sea Evil Dragon and hung them as a specimen under this lamp.

It is said that this chandelier was finally completed by the Alchemy Research Institute of the First University. The techies imbued hundreds of different twinkling magic effects onto the fancy crystals and gemstones that could even dazzle the most greedy Fire Dragon.

However, since this office was put into use, few people have been able to make this lamp glow in colors other than white.

As a result, those exaggerated rumors gradually disappeared.

Only dozens of little elves wearing gray uniforms scattered orderly around the golden frame of the chandelier, demonstrating to everyone the difficulty in maintaining it- compared to regular offices, the room 101 required ten more elves for its service, and most of them were assigned to take care of this dragon-shaped chandelier.

In the center of the conference table, a row of lush Clivia plants stood tall.

This might be the most vibrant decoration in the entire room.

The orchid leaves are spread out, exuding their vitality to this world. Occasionally, some leaves lazily flutter, revealing several flower sprites darting back and forth amongst the foliage.

The regular meeting has not officially started yet.

Dozens of high-backed chairs are haphazardly arranged around the conference table; professors gather in small groups, discussing their respective topics quietly, their law books, and pen tips colliding to produce splendid colors now and then.

Professor Yao, Professor Yi and Professor Li are standing together at the head of the table, having a serious conversation.

They haven’t taken their seats, and they are speaking so quietly that the wizards who are keeping an eye on the mood of these big shots are becoming increasingly nervous.

Suddenly, a burst of dark red flame explodes with a faint fizzling sound deep in the void.

The sound of footsteps follows right after.

"Ah, I’m not the last one to arrive, am I?" Emma’s loud voice broke the silence in the meeting room.

"What’s she doing at Jiuyou’s regular meeting?" Old Yao, somewhat annoyed, knocked on his pipe, gave a deep sigh to Professor Li, who was smiling bitterly.

"Not late, not late," Professor Yi greeted her with a smile. "Your arrival is never regarded as late."

Professor Emma had switched to a set of white half-rimmed square glasses. The lenses were large, almost covering half of her face. A slender silver chain hung on the legs of the glasses, swinging vigorously with her swift steps.

"Those old guys were really troublesome," Professor Emma always complained a few times when she came to this meeting room: "A perfectly good room, forcibly transformed into this... I heard that five percent of the budget of Jiuyou’s staff committee this year was spent on repairing this office. Didn’t they think of the rate of magic decay?"

"When this meeting room was built, magic decay was still a controversial topic. I remember that some great wizards claimed that their magic could last forever." Old Yao, biting his pipe, added:

"Until later, it was discovered that those wizards were always reinforcing their magic when others were not noticing... which forced the Wizard Covenant to send an investigation team and finally eliminated the notion of ’eternal magic’."

"So you are saying, you have no objection to the Wizard Covenant sending an investigation team to the first university?" Professor Emma quickly perceived the deep meaning behind Old Yao’s statement.

"I never said that, never." Professor Yao quickly took the pipe from his mouth, exhaled a puff of smoke, and shook his head quickly: "You are implying... if there are problems in the future, you will also bear responsibility, right?"

"Ha!" Professor Emma’s round eyes widened, and she was just about to lose her temper.

"By the way, did any of you notice today’s door gods?" Professor Li quickly made peace, diverting the topic: "When I came in earlier, I felt that the condition of Shen Tu and Yu Lei was a bit weird."

"Yes, I noticed," said a black-robed wizard nearby: "They didn’t play cards or smoke, they were sitting on small stools, seriously guarding the door... even the white cat next to them was patrolling with its tail up."

"I was a little scared when I saw them being this serious for the first time," another young teaching assistant smacked his lips, showing an uneasy expression on his face.

"They were chastised by the higher-ups," Old Yao raised his pipe and pointed to the sky, smiling: "I heard that a few days ago, a professor’s office was broken into by a stranger, but the two door gods were drunk and asleep... The higher-ups were infuriated, and the words on the document were quite unkind."

With this diversion, Professor Emma finally didn’t lose her temper.

She moved her plump body and heavily sat down on a high-backed chair next to Old Yao, carelessly spreading her legs apart, choosing the most comfortable position:

"It’s so hot, so hot!"

As she complained, she snapped her fingers at the overhead light, saying, "This hellish weather, it’s the end of September and still so muggy! Who is in charge of the weather recently? Just be moderate, why be so accurate!"

Little sprites in the chandelier rose in waves, flapping their wings.

Several sprites responsible for grooming, carrying wet wipes, makeup mirrors, etc., carefully cleaned the sweat on Professor Emma’s cheeks; some hovered in the air, fanning light fans, sending a cool breeze into Professor Emma’s neck; the remaining sprites held bamboo baskets, serving chilled fruit plates and refreshing snacks.

"Thomas is in charge of the weather this month." Old Yao casually picked a dark purple grape from the sprite’s fruit basket, tossed it into his mouth, and mumbled.

"Ah, it turns out to be that little German guy!" Professor Emma touched her silver hard-shell law book with some annoyance, muttering, "Those rigid guys, tsk."

"What were you guys discussing just now?" She switched the topic quickly.
