Chapter 169: Chapter 93 Outside the Rest Room_1

As a representative figure of Alpha Academy, Sir Friedman’s schedule was always packed.

This could be distinctly perceived from the outside of his lounge.

Several rows of long, low-back sofas can be found outside Sir’s lounge, primarily for accommodating visitors who had come to pay a visit. Accompanied by low black teapots between every pair of sofas. In the cupboards under the teapots, several thick reference books were piled up. On the teapots, a platter with gold filigree and gemstones held a beautiful selection of pastries and fruits.

Matthew squinted his eyes and silently counted.

There were more than a dozen guests in front of him, but they could be divided into two groups.

One group consisted of new students freshly admitted this year. Their white robes still carried the radiant color unique to new clothes, and they lacked any special embroidery on their sleeve cuffs and collars.

Leading this batch of visitors was a young male witch with a stout figure and crew cut hair, followed by approximately seven or eight others. They did not hesitate in monopolizing a whole row of low-back sofas, casually shifting the sofas and teapots to their liking and gathering around to play some card game that occasionally produced loud noise.

It seemed like the noise from these new students was too much for the portraits of old aristocrats hanging against the wall to bear. Each painting being deserted and driven to an unknown location.

Matthew also had a very poor impression of this group of visitors.

They didn’t act like students from Alpha. This thought occurred to the young vampire as he glanced worryingly towards the lounge’s entrance. Allowing such uncouth individuals to be involved with distinguished families such as the Karen and Black Families would be nothing short of an insult.

Just thinking about this was nauseating.

In contrast, the other group of visitors was quite well-behaved.

They were older students from Alpha, only two of them. Their white robes gleamed softly under the light of torches, with a satin-like appearance – a characteristic of worn-out academy robes. The most vital aspect was the two black lines embroidered on the cuff of these two people.

They seemed to be third-year students. Matthew didn’t know why they had sought to visit his cousin; he sat down quietly on a sofa to ponder this thought.

The older students did not make a ruckus like the new students nor did they display any disrespectful attitude towards them.

They merely sat patiently on the sofas, and picked up the books from beneath the teapots, quietly waiting to be summoned by the Duke.

This is the sort of demeanor that should be associated with Alpha People. The young vampire mused to himself contentedly, also pulling out a copy of "Heisenberg and Forbidden Curses" from beneath the teapot, flipping through it casually.

The time always passed swiftly while reading.

Before he could finish the first Chapter of the book, he was interrupted.

"Excuse me, are you Mr. Matthew Karen?" Inquired the servant bending over respectfully, his grey eyes staring up.

Matthew promptly stood up, put down his book, letting a light sigh escape from him, and answered in a composed manner, "Yes."

"Sir is ready to see you," continued the servant, his head lowered as he spoke in a whisper, "Please, follow me."

The other visitors sitting and waiting on the sofas noticed the action of the servant.

The uncouth new students seated at the far end ceased their noise, swapped whispers, and glared nastily at Matthew.

Comparatively, the two senior students lifted their heads, their eyes brimming with curiosity.

Matthew nodded politely, doing his best to suppress his delight, stood tall, and followed behind the servant towards the carved arch door leading to the lounge.

However, someone jumped in front of him and barred the sculpted door.

"We arrived before him! Why does he get to go in first, it’s not fair!" The young male wizard with the crew cut bellowed at Matthew, his saliva splattering against the grey-eyed servant’s face.

Matthew was taken aback, even somewhat taken off guard.

This was his first encounter with such a blatant lack of decorum in this setting.

In fact, throughout his short life of less than twenty years, he had hardly ever come across such a lack of composure.

"If you’re looking for fairness, you should have gone to the nerd’s school." One of the older students waiting patiently on the low-back sofa, propping his chin in his hand, sneered, "Looking for fairness within Alpha castle, now that’s the most ludicrous thing I’ve heard this year."

The young man with the crew-cut took several deep breaths and abruptly tamed his anger.

"Did he tip you?" The male student arrogantly glanced at Matthew, extending his chubby palm. His short and plump fingers were adorned with magic rings; in the heart of his spherical hand, a jadeite gemstone shimmered enchantingly under the white torchlight.

"Here, take it!" The young man tossed the gemstone around whilst armoured in a mocking smirk, looking at the servant standing in front of him: "Can we go in now?"

Matthew was taken aback for a moment, then he turned furious.

These uncouth freshmen were not only insulting his cousin but also him!

Unbearable!

The young vampire’s breathing turned heavy and his eyes glowed red, with two sharp fangs faintly appearing at the corner of his mouth.

However, his cousin’s servant stepped forward, shielding him.

The servant, with his grey eyes and curly hair, remained silent. He calmly pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, wiped the saliva off his face, and tossed the piece of cloth into a bin at the entrance.

"The Duke has not invited you yet. Please continue waiting." The wooden-faced servant looked at the impudent visitors in front of him and spoke in an exceptionally stiff tone, "The Duke has not approved. Please keep your gem."

A robot?

Or a puppet!

He must be an alchemy puppet. Matthew stared at the tall servant standing in front of him, his mouth slightly agape to reveal two disoriented little fangs.

He never imagined that his renowned cousin would use alchemy puppets as servants.

If other Under the Moon nobles knew about it, this would definitely become a laughing stock.

For a while, he was unsure whether it was the insolence of these newcomers that annoyed him or the stiffness of these puppets that disappointed him more.

"The rules at the Friedman place are too many, and the thresholds are too high. We can’t wait." The bulky lad didn’t cause a ruckus; instead, he retracted the gem in his hand, imperiously swept his gaze around, gestured at his friends, "The Alpha Academy isn’t exclusively a vampire academy....let’s go, we’re visiting Senior Sepulano!"

With that, the newcomers strided off arrogantly.

Leaving behind two dumbfounded veterans and an array of disorderly sofas.

"Very well, the Duke invites you." As if nothing had happened, the servant in front of him was leading Matthew towards the lounge once again.

The young vampire retracted his fangs, nodded foolishly and followed the servant like a lost lamb.

His brain was a mess.

"Please dress properly." The gentle whispering of the servant brought the daydreaming vampire back to the real world.

Behind the carved archway, stood a gigantic dressing mirror.

Matthew stood in front of the mirror, vigorously rubbing his face, striving to muster his spirit up.

"You would require a damp cloth to wipe off the dust," The gentle face of an old woman appeared above the dressing mirror, "Besides that, your bowtie is tilted 13 degrees to the left and there’s a tiny stain on your right cuff."

Matthew took the warm cloth offered by the servant, wiped his face and then removed the soiled cufflink. He took out another pair of black cufflinks etched with the Karen family’s insignia from his pocket and patiently buttoned it on his cuff.

The old woman smiled at him warmly.

The dressing mirror emanated a soft green light.

Matthew straightened his stiff back, arranged a standard smile in front of the mirror and turned to walk towards the lounge.

"Mr. Matthew Karen!"

The puppet servant standing near the door to the lounge, announced the name of the visitor in a soft tone.
