Chapter 1658: Chapter 402: Frequent Accidents
The thick gray mouse tail twisted like a water snake in the riverbed passage, moving forward without stirring any mud. If you look closely, you’ll see a fine, thin film of water adhered to the tail, minimizing its impact on the riverbed environment.
The water film stretched all the way back, transforming into a translucent envelope over the trophy the tail captured, like soap bubbles.
Through the envelope, the five young wizards look pale, their eyes tightly shut, their fate unknown.
Above the river level is a relentless black tide from the depths of the Silent Forest, wave after wave, crashing against the frail defenses of Beta Town.
Beneath the river surface is the dark current rolled out by the mouse tail, disappearing into distant unknown places, as if Beelzebub had opened its throat, endlessly swallowing.
The Silent River sits between them, quietly gurgling, observers of all these events with cold detachment, as it has for tens or even hundreds of years.
The mouse tail, carrying its loot, meandered on the riverbed for a while, finally landing at a secluded cove.
Deep within the cove, there is a small piece of land.
At the end of the land stood a low arch gate.
The gate is about a meter high, flanked by Roman columns, intertwined with olive and laurel branches at the top, with a group of naked, chubby sprites wearing humble smiles, bowing in servitude among the lush foliage.
After leaving the waters of the Silent River, the water film and envelope on the mouse tail shattered with a pop, but the young wizards rolled up in it remained unconscious, although their faces were less pale compared to being underwater.
The mouse tail slithered like a giant python heading home, snaking through the wet and silent forest land, finally disappearing into the small arched gate, along with its trophies.
When the mouse tail completely vanished and the Silent River returned to calm, the sprites on the arch gate shed their previous humility, smiles turning sinister and eerie.
A grass spirit seemed attracted by the olive and laurel on the gate, it clumsily slipped out from the bushes and greeted the sprites.
Moments later, the grass spirit disappeared among the plants on the gate, as the plump sprites wiped greenish bloodstains from the corners of their mouths with olive leaves, comparing the distance between them and the next prey.
...
"Your tail is back."
Fei Rui stood at the top of the column on the right side of the arch gate, shouting at a small figure standing at the cliff’s edge: "It seems to have brought something back... Damn it!!"
The last two words were screamed by the auburn hamster as if it had been struck by lightning.
The gray mouse tail silently passed through the gate, hesitating for a moment as it ’bobbed’ at the entrance, then adhered to the back of the small figure at the cliff’s edge, shrinking and thinning.
At the end of the mouse tail, the gate was like a hen laying an egg, the columns bending outward, causing the sprites atop the arch to lose their smiles, their chubby bodies compressing under the immense pressure.
When Fei Rui shouted ’Damn it,’ it was exactly when the ’egg’ was birthed from the gate.
The auburn hamster saw the trophies dragged back by the mouse tail.
That’s why it cursed out loud in frustration.
Fei Rui shot out from the arch like a cannonball, crashing heavily into the waist of the Rat Immortal, nearly sending the mouse tumbling into the thick mist below the cliff.
Fortunately, the Wandering Wizard extended his arm, pinching the back of Fei Rui’s neck with his bony fingers, preventing a disaster.
"Calm down, calm down." The owner of the Wandering Bar adjusted the conical hat on his head, his voice as calm as ever: "We’ve done such major things, what’s there to be surprised about?"
Fei Rui furiously turned his head, correcting the Wandering Wizard’s wording: "That matter isn’t done yet... it’s just ’planning,’ ’prepping,’ ’might’ be done!"
The Elder Wizard shrugged, releasing his fingers: "If you want to deceive yourself."
Fei Rui fell to the ground like a deflated ball, with even his anger deflated. Only then did the Rat Immortal seem to come to his senses, turning to look at the hamster much shorter than himself, the wrinkles on his face moved slightly.
"What’s the matter?" he asked slowly.
Fei Rui looked impatient, waving his short arms randomly: "You’re asking me? You don’t know what your own tail did? It brought back a few students from the First University! Jiuyou and Starry Sky Academy! You’ve gotten yourself into trouble again!"
The wrinkles on the Rat Immortal’s face expanded slightly, seemingly expressing surprise.
"Oh?" His tone became a bit solemn: "I really didn’t know about this... I just asked it to help watch the gate. However, I did sense a child of the Mouse Clan losing their life earlier, these two things should be related. Who did it bring back?"
The Wandering Wizard was already examining the trophies brought back by the mouse tail attentively.
"Zhang Ji Xin, Xiao Xiao, Xin." The Wandering Wizard had some impression of the guests who had once visited the upstairs box: "And a swordsman, plus a werewolf... no, a vampire... no, a vampire-werewolf hybrid?"
"Oh, it’s Dylan, O’Brien and the forbidden child of the Tabbot family." The Rat Immortal’s tone carried a hint of realization, even the wrinkles on his face seemed to smoothen considerably: "Mouse Clan children work in their store, I’ve gotten some basic information."
"If you’ve known, you should be aware they’re all friends of Zheng Qing!" Fei Rui shouted sharply: "Are you trying to lure that cat over?!"
"If the principal cared about this, Doctor Duzem wouldn’t appear here." The Wandering Wizard sat cross-legged on the ground, soothingly patting the back of Fei Rui’s head, then glanced at the unconscious young wizards on the ground, his brow furrowing slightly: "Anyway, these kids are indeed troublesome."
"Let them go back?" Fei Rui tentatively asked.
"Impossible." The Rat Immortal shook his head: "They came here, they’ve already been tainted with crucial information... The school can easily divine our plan here."
"Leaving them here would be inconvenient." The Wandering Wizard scratched his head, then shrugged at his two old companions: "I don’t want to provoke that old lunatic of the Zhang family... let alone the O’Brien and Tabbot families. But this kid with black-framed glasses can be considered for sacrifice to Giant Zero Three."
Xiao Xiao’s closed eyelids twitched slightly, tugging at the corner of his mouth to show a faint bitter smile, then slowly opened his eyes and adjusted the slightly askew glasses on his nose.
