Chapter 159: Chapter 83 Nightmare and Warning_1
Sinn Bana Schmidt-Bayer had a nightmare.
The weather in the dream was gloomy with a light rain falling from the sky, and he stood on a muddy road that seemed to stretch into infinity.
In his dream, he had turned into a Blue Giant, with his upper body bare, his lower body covered by only a piece of dirty rag and no shoes. His bare feet could feel the slippery mud flowing and shifting under the effect of gravity, almost as if it were groaning in agony.
"Squish, squish!"
"Huff, huff!"
The sounds of heavy breathing and footsteps were messily intertwined together.
He turned his head, and to his surprise found a familiar figure.
"Red Face? What are you doing?" Xin cried out, his gaze darting around. "Where are we now!"
Grey mist twisted and silently flowed around them, obstructing his vision.
Zhang Ji Xin had his head down, his body leaning forward. A dark rope was tied around his spine, extending into the foggy distance behind him.
"Pulling a barge," the red-faced young man replied weakly. He lifted his head, his eyes void of any spirit. "Don’t you know what you’re doing?"
The sturdy young man looked incredibly haggard. His normally flushed complexion now seemed to have been tempered by icy water, turning grey.
Xin looked down in horror, only then noticing the old rope looped over his own shoulder.
"Why am I pulling a barge!" He shouted, forcefully tugging on the rope over his shoulder, trying to shake off this binding.
However, a piercing pain surged from deep within his soul, causing him to wail in agony.
"Paying off debts!" The anger finally seeped into Zhang Ji Xin’s voice. He glared at Xin Fat Man, roared: "If you hadn’t bet with me, I wouldn’t have signed that sort of life-debt contract! If my brother finds out, he’s definitely going to break my legs!"
The cold rain fell on Xin Fat Man’s head, streaming down his hair, gathering at the tips and falling down in drops.
The heavy raindrops, pulled by gravity, crashed onto his shoulder, rolling down his bare body.
Sin·Banna shivered with cold.
He vaguely remembered a Peach Charm, a Flying Centipede, and a piece of Parchment flashing with firelight.
"No!" He screamed, shaking his head violently. "This must be a nightmare!"
"My two horses, give it your all!" A excited voice rang out not too far behind them, accompanied by the crisp sound of a whip cracking through the air.
"Crack! Crack!"
Xin looked back in fright.
Just then, the fog parted, revealing a small boat. Standing at the front of the boat were two people.
One of them was Zheng Qing, draped in a bright-red cloak, wearing leather boots, dragon-skin gloves on his hands, a sly-smiling fox lying on his shoulder and a whip whooshing through the air in his hand.
He held a large paper umbrella over his head, keeping the swaying wind and rain outside the boat.
The short person next to Zheng Qing was Xiao Xiao. He kept his head down, his hand holding a notebook, the brush in his hand flying across the pages.
Seemingly sensing the gaze from the front, Xiao Xiao lifted his head, pushed his glasses up on his nose, a glint of light flashing across the lens.
"Three hundred and sixty-four days left," the aloof voice rang out clearly in the slaves’ ears, even from a distance. "If you don’t work hard, then over the course of this year, even if your master beats you to death, the highest court will have nothing to say."
"Snap! Snap!" The sound of the whip slicing through the air rang out again.
The two sturdy men lowered their heads, beginning to pull on the tow rope with all their might.
"You go ahead and slack off," a boisterous laugh resounded from behind the two. "If I can’t kill you, then I lose!"
"I lose!"
"I lose!"
"Lose!"
"Lose!"
Almost like a curse, the word "lose" echoed endlessly in Sinn Banna’s ear.
"Devil," he muttered, slipping and falling heavily.
The sensation of weightlessness and the bubbling mud rushed to meet him.
Xin Fat Man’s vision darkened and he woke up from his dream.
"Only a demon could commit such a cruel act!" Duan Xiao Jian’s affirmative voice echoed throughout the spacious classroom.
"Indeed, a demon." After a moment of despair, Sin·Banna recovered from his nightmare and began to adapt to the somewhat dazzling lights of the classroom...
He had never found the classroom for hexes class to be so lovely before.
"Right!’" Getting other’s affirmation made Duan Xiao Jian’s tone even more triumphant, and one could see his hunchback straighten quite a bit. He slapped Xin Fat Man’s shoulder and excitedly asked, "You have lots of monsters in Europa, Xin. What kind of cruel demon do you think this is? Could it be Horus?"
"Zheng Qing," Xin Fat Man rubbed his eyes, vaguely seeing a figure before him, mumbling, "Satan."
"What?" Zheng Qing cupped his ear, feeling like he hadn’t heard clearly.
The surrounding classmates also showed surprised faces.
"I’m cutting off all relations with you!" Xin Fat Man quickly sobered up, showing a face mixed with grief and outrage. "How could you take advantage of other’s misfortune!"
Zheng Qing blinked, a blank expression on his face.
"I think he’s talking about the contract." A low chuckle came from Xiao Xiao behind him.
Zheng Qing suddenly realized.
"No, no, no," he said with a laugh, "We’ve all bought our clothes with our own money. We’re all brothers. It’s not worth it to make a fuss over something so trivial."
Xin Fat Man tried to force a look of fury onto his face, but it was hardly convincing.
It looked more like he was wearing a long face.
"Aren’t you going to be the man who eats everything under the sun? And the man who breaks his chains?" Xiao Xiao’s cold, gloomy voice came from behind.
Xin Fat Man turned his head and saw Xiao Xiao looking up from her notebook and adjusting her glasses.
He shivered involuntarily.
"That’s right," Zheng Qing seemed to remember something and tried to recall, "And the fiery passion inside him is ready to ..."
"Ready to give his life for his employer!" Zhang Ji Xin’s red face had turned black from anger. He swiftly wiped a clean stool with his robe and helped Zheng Qing to sit down, before righteously saying to Xin Fat Man, "If you’re a real man, your word is your bond!"
"Yeah, yeah!" Xin Fat Man’s face turned pale, his thick lips trembling as he said with a mournful expression, "A spoken word is past recalling."
The other people around them watched in confusion.
"Old Yao has arrived! Old Yao has arrived!"
A bald boy shrieked from behind the door.
The somewhat chaotic classroom quickly fell quiet.
With his yellow face, black robe, and sparse shiny hair, Professor Yao strode into the classroom and stood on the podium, giving a light cough.
The classroom was dead silent, with everyone sitting upright in their seats.
Professor Yao nodded in satisfaction.
Zheng Qing noticed that the pipe he usually carried was tucked into a pocket on his chest, and he was holding a newspaper.
"I want to talk about a few things." He got straight to the point, speaking somewhat sternly: "First, I heard about what happened at the Wandering Bar yesterday. Some of you handled it pretty well."
His dark little eyes rested on Zheng Qing: "Let’s give a round of applause for student Zheng Qing."
The classroom erupted in cheers and applause.
Xin Fat Man too managed a weak clap.
"As it isn’t an incident on campus, the school won’t directly reward this." The professor raised his hand and lightly pressed it down to signal everyone to be quiet. "But as a counselor, I will award him five credits. Does anyone have any objections?"
Zheng Qing looked up at the podium in surprise, and Old Yao gave him an encouraging nod.
The surrounding classmates expressed their envy with a never-ending stream of congratulations.
"In addition." Professor Yao interrupted the somewhat noisy atmosphere in the classroom, raising his voice to say, "Recently, there has been some unrest in and around the school, and I guess you all have felt it."
While saying that, he waved the newspaper in his hand, a trace of sarcasm hanging on his lips, "All sorts of rumors are floating around. Something about a demon breaking into the school’s private plane, the Black Prison’s riot, and all sorts of drivel."
"Especially last night, the school had a frightful double murder. Rumors have been saying that a Horus has entered the school."
The classroom fell completely silent, everyone closed their mouth, nervously watching the podium.
"I don’t want to hear these groundless rumors in the academy."
As Old Yao spoke, his gaze swept around the classroom, emphasizing, "I don’t want to hear them at all!"
Whether it was an illusion or not, Zheng Qing felt that those eyes seemed to pause a moment over the boys’ group.
"If you don’t know, don’t guess wildly! If you know something, report it to the school. No one will withhold your reward." Old Yao slammed the newspaper on his desk, "You’re all freshman just entering the school. Here, I want to emphasize one thing."
Must love small animals? Not allowed to discuss the details of the murder case privately? Or, take good care of your pets?
Zheng Qing’s mind was quickly turning over all sorts of thoughts.
Professor Yao looked around the classroom with a serious expression:
"Never be presumptuous!"
"Your law books don’t even have a complete spell recorded."
"Don’t try to play the hero and go after the killer."
"If you have any clues, report them to your seniors immediately."
"Senior classmates, staff, teaching assistants, professors, even your dorm supervisor Old Ni."
"But one thing."
"Never take things into your own hands and venture out recklessly."
"Whoever could commit such a horrific act in the core area of Wizard University, whether it’s a demon or some other fierce beast, it’s not something you young people can handle."
"If you act without permission, be prepared to be expelled by the school!"
The classroom was in an uproar.
Several boys around them slammed their heads onto their desks in frustration.
Their ambitious hunting plan had ended before it had even started.
