Chapter 1380: Chapter 127 Zai Xia Bao Yu

The practical session content for the final exam in Magic Potions and Alchemy was limited, so Zheng Qing and the others quickly finished their planned coursework. The entire process took less than two hours.

But as they emerged from the laboratory, Zheng Qing could clearly feel that something was off with the lighting outside.

"Why is it so dark outside?"

The young scholarship student stretched his neck and glanced out the window in the corridor. Since Banna had secured experimental tables for everyone in the basement, which had no windows, they had no idea what was happening outside.

Xiao Xiao pulled out his pocket watch and took a look at the time.

"It’s not even nine in the morning... The time is correct," he confirmed.

"Crack!!"

A dazzling lightning bolt illuminated the pitch-black window sills and also resolved the confusion of the young wizards. Zheng Qing quickened his pace towards the front desk at the library exit.

The howling wind brought a long-missed chill through the tall glass doors, brushing over the young wizards and finally stopping at the thin layer of a magic barrier.

Thunder rumbled behind them, interspersed with the pattering sound of raindrops hitting the glass, puddles, and treetops.

Amidst the cacophony, the library’s octopus librarian was handling the matters of departing students, its tentacles holding different colored feather pens and various sized stamps.

Soon it was Zheng Qing’s turn.

"It’s raining outside, huh." He spoke just to make some conversation, trying to lighten the gloomy atmosphere a bit.

Mr. Octopus’s pitch-black eyes revolved as if to give him a glance, then spewed out a stream of ink. The ink spread in the air and converged, finally forming a line of letters: "Zai Xia Bao Yu (Downpour)..."

Xin Fat Man had said before that the library manager had a bad temper and only communicated in letters, which seemed to be accurate. The young scholarship student silently pondered over the letters, trying hard to read them.

After a few seconds of reading and mulling, Zheng Qing finally gave a cupped fist salute to the librarian: "My apologies... I originally thought you were an octopus, I didn’t expect you to be an abalone..."

This was truly just a slip of the tongue. Zheng Qing didn’t know what was on his mind at the time; he had just blurted out this slightly mocking comment unintentionally.

Beside him came several gasps, among which he could vaguely make out Xin Fat Man and Xiao Xiao. It seemed there was also a very subtle voice of admiration. He was unsure if he was imagining that.

Behind the large wooden desk.

The octopus’s translucent skin visibly darkened at a pace detectable by the naked eye.

Snap.

A tentacle snapped a fiery red feather pen.

Seeing the bad turn of events, the warlock dropped the books he was borrowing and made a run for it. But it was to no avail as Mr. Octopus’s tentacle flicked, discarding the broken feather pen and grabbing the young wizard by the collar of his robe.

And then, suspending him in mid-air, came a round of random knocks.

Zheng Qing was left with bumps all over his head.

Passing male and female witches all covered their mouths and laughed but nobody protested against the octopus’s blatantly violent behavior. It was just like the scene Zheng Qing had witnessed when he first entered the library.

What a cold-hearted world, Zheng Qing lamented in his heart as he screamed in pain, holding his head.

Throughout the ordeal, Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man just stood by with their arms folded holding their textbooks, watching with great interest. Not until the young scholarship student was thrown out of the library’s glass doors by Mr. Octopus did they jog over to the warlock’s side, helping him to his feet.

Before Zheng Qing could say a word, the two of them were already complaining.

"Why did you provoke it?"

"Serve you right!"

"Just looking for trouble..."

"Knowing full well you’d get hit, why still make a snide remark?"

"No, it’s not being snide... Ow," Zheng Qing rubbed his forehead where the octopus’ tentacle had left a big bump, hissing like a talkative Fishman, "You guys think I’m provoking that octopus... but in reality, I’m challenging this stubborn, conservative history!"

"Wow, that sounds grandiose," Xin Fat Man chuckled, "so getting beat up is now an honor for you?"

"Knowing it’s impossible yet still doing it, I am Don Quixote, charging at windmills with a Knight’s lance! To break free from the shackles of history! To shatter the darkness of tradition!"

Both companions looked on blankly, making no comment on Fifi’s grandiloquent speech.

Just then, Jiang Yu, dragging little Li Meng from the library with Li Meng carrying her pink backpack and Jiang Yu holding several reference books, came out.

She immediately spotted the bump on Zheng Qing’s head.

"Have you converted to Buddhism?" Witch asked with a breezy tone.

Xin Fat Man chuckled under his breath.

Zheng Qing scowled, pretending not to hear the Witch’s question, and retorted, "Why did you guys leave the library so early?"

"Same reason you’re out here, aren’t you?" Li Meng chimed in.

"We couldn’t find seats."

"Neither could we!"

Zheng Qing sighed in disappointment—he had just been thinking that if Jiang Yu and her group temporarily left, perhaps his group could occupy their spots in the library.

Now, that hope was dashed.

It looked like they would have to return to the dormitory to study—a waste of a precious day. The magical allure of the bed and pillow when studying in the dorm is always beyond imagination.

"If you don’t mind, you can join us in the study room," Jiang Yu noticed the Warlock’s expression, hesitated, then offered, "Liu Fei Fei is the top student, she has a private study room for girls, and she says there are some spots available..."

"A girls-only study room? Can boys enter too?"

"As long as you’re invited... Nicholas and Liu Fei Fei are in there right now."

Zheng Qing hadn’t had time to think it over when Xin Fat Man readily agreed, patting his chest. Xiao Xiao silently raised his hand to show that he agreed too.

Walking towards the study room with the Witches, Zheng Qing whispered into the Doctor’s ear, "There’s even a private study room for the top student, the teachers must have one too... haven’t you asked Classmate SiMa to borrow her office for a bit?"

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, glanced at the cost student, and corrected, "You should say Mister Sima or Teacher SiMa. And do you really want to study in the office where people come and go?"

Zheng Qing waved his hands dismissively.

He was just joking, not at all inclined to approach the professors’ turf. Besides, there was a good chance they would run into Professor Yao who had just returned.

The thought alone made his scalp tingle.

"Stop whispering, get closer!" Xin called out from a few steps away, "Don’t you know that the Rain Avoidance Spell consumes a lot of Magic Power? Don’t wear me out!"

Large raindrops pitter-pattered against the transparent Barrier above the group’s heads, sliding off to the sides. Beneath their feet was the same thin film, keeping the Young Warlocks’ shoes dry from the muddy water.

Li Meng, looking very pleased, walked in the middle of the group, occasionally poking the Barrier around her to feel the cool rain of summer.

Xiao Xiao shrugged at Zheng Qing and quickly caught up with the pace of the group.
