Chapter 1217: Chapter 279 Gunshot
Outside the magic circle.
The Black Cat’s tail was puffed up, his body low to the ground, tense as he looked at the giant toad, his eyes, at some point, had turned blood red, resembling two beautiful rubies. His claws extended from their sheaths, digging firmly into a large tree stump.
Jiang Yu’s hair flew behind her head; she held an ancient Charm Gun in both hands, gritted her teeth, and slowly, under the immense pressure that faced her, moved the gun’s barrel toward the toad. The Jade Pendant at her waist floated in the air, its colorful halo steadfastly protecting her within.
"Satoguya!"
The Black Cat’s throat let out a low growl with this name that was both familiar and strange to him. The moment he saw the giant toad, his instincts told him the answer—the nocturnal demon squatting at the end of Silent River, the second full moon that abruptly appeared in the night sky above campus, were all intricately linked to the aura emanating from this monster.
His relationship with this monster was far from good.
The Black Cat, with blood-red eyes, glared fiercely at the gradually opening eyes of the monster. The pupils of Satoguya were bright yellow with streaks of brown and black, looking like the blooming chrysanthemums of honors.
"Heh, heh-heh..."
A deep laugh echoed incessantly throughout the small world. The six stone pillars at the edge of the magic circle that were used to control its range had all snapped, and the mud slabs engraved with the Old Seal around the magic circle had turned to dust under the monster’s overwhelming presence.
Satoguya, an infrequent opener of eyes, opened them wide:
"Truly... a long-lost... feast."
Its tone was filled with emotion and sincerity, yet its eyes were brimming with greed. Beside it, the figure of Korma struggled, fading slowly, like a water-damaged oil painting becoming blurring and translucent; the Gypsy Witch, meanwhile, hung suspended midair, unable to move, manipulated like a doll into an inverted crucifix by an invisible pair of hands.
Compared to Its offspring, the arriving Satoguya seemed ’calmer’ to some extent. The scent permeating the air triggered the Black Cat’s memories; he only then realized, retrospectively, that his but a simple glance at the demon back at Silent River was like getting his mind pricked with a needle.
Yet now, despite staring intently into Satoguya’s large eyes, he felt no discomfort.
At most, there was just a greater psychological pressure.
"Why..." The Black Cat’s body grew inch by inch under the invisible pressure in the air, ten centimeters, twenty centimeters, thirty centimeters, half a meter, one meter, two meters.
Why would Satoguya seize the passage to arrive here? Why take such a risk to come to Buji Island? Why was his reaction to this monster less intense than to the demon above Silent River? Why do troubles keep coming his way?!
The Black Cat had countless questions in his heart, but he did not expect the arriving Outer God to kindly answer them.
Survive first, then know the answers.
As his size increased, the tree stump beneath the Black Cat gradually lost its supportive function and was soon engulfed by the soft black tide. The Witch, standing next to the Black Cat, was slightly relieved as the Black Cat took on more pressure, and the Charm Gun in her hands moved smoothly, squarely aiming at the monster.
The red light in the Black Cat’s eyes grew brighter, and his entire body’s black fur gradually lost its texture, transforming instead into a layer of substance, ethereal as clouds but akin to smoke, roiling and roaring around him. It seemed capable of engulfing everything.
Zheng Qing had never tried to grow this big before; while at school, to prevent the school’s Protection Array from reacting unnecessarily, he had always been restrained, trying to control his size.
But now.
In this concealed small world, facing an Outer God that had suddenly arrived from the Deeps of Starry Sky, he completely let go of the last ounce of restraint in his heart, growing recklessly.
Three meters, four meters, five meters; quickly, the Black Cat’s size was comparable to that of the toad across from him.
Then he surpassed It.
Six meters, seven meters.
Until a critical point was reached—Zheng Qing could ’hear’ the small world painfully groaning under his and Satoguya’s pressure, and a familiar yet strange voice in his heart loudly warned him, stop, don’t grow any larger, you’ll die.
"This innocent little world will die, and you will die too."
Facing the descending Outer God, Zheng Qing was fully aware of his fate. But besides him and the giant frog-like creature on the other side, there were three innocent witches in this small world. He could die, but they were innocent.
The Black Cat forcefully suppressed the urge to continue growing.
Even so, he now stood several meters taller than the giant frog on the opposite side, looming over It.
But from beginning to end, Satoguya did not move a step, nor did It turn Its head even an extra circle. Its greedy and yearning eyes were fixated on the Black Cat as It continued to swell in size.
"Delicious... fruit..." A trace of bewilderment flickered in Satoguya’s eyes. The dark green tongue that hung out of Its mouth oozed a viscous liquid that dripped onto the dark Magic Base Array, corroding patches of ash-white traces.
"Boom!"
The paw swung out by the Black Cat was blocked by a thick tentacle mid-air, exploding in sound as the shattered air swept across the entire magic circle like a hurricane, scattering the tree canopies high above and causing branches to snap and fall to the ground.
Jiang Yu stood firm with her feet apart right beside the Black Cat, her Charm Gun aimed steadily at the golden center of Satoguya’s eyes, ready to fire at any moment.
"Huff..."
The Gypsy witch, bound by invisible tentacles, suddenly appeared in front of the gun’s muzzle, blocking her line of sight.
"Insects... are poisonous." Satoguya’s words were always succinct but hard to understand. Just like now, the Black Cat couldn’t tell if the giant frog was making a metaphor, actually talking about some poisonous insects, or if there was some other meaning.
But that did not hinder him from further understanding the shamelessness of the ’Outer God’ opposite him.
"Despicable!" The Black Cat roared, swinging another paw ferociously at Satoguya’s head. Five cold gleams on the tips of Its claws shot down like shooting stars, accompanied by dark clouds howling in the wind.
"Boom!!!"
The ground shook, the world groaned. This time, two thick tentacles rose from behind Satoguya, blocking the Black Cat’s paw. Several strands of thick blood slid down the tentacles, dripping onto the body of Korma below, who was being sunk into the void by the binding contract.
The witch’s figure seemed slightly clearer for a moment.
And the Gypsy witch, who had been bound all along, struggled out slightly after Satoguya was injured, shrieking at Jiang Yu, "Remember what you promised me!!!"
Her voice was broken and severely distorted by the surging Magic Storm.
All along, the arm holding the gun was very steady, but upon hearing the Gypsy witch’s scream, Jiang Yu couldn’t help it; her arm trembled slightly.
Elena’s intention was clear.
To stop the descending Outer God.
At all costs.
That was the agreement made between Elena and Jiang Yu when she handed Jiang Yu the Charm Gun and Fu Bullet.
The Black Cat’s eyes seemed to blaze with fire, and Its roar tore through Its chest. Yet Satoguya remained squatting in Its original spot, like an ancient statue, as if everything around It was of no consequence.
"There’s still a chance," Jiang Yu murmured with a pale face, looking at the Gypsy witch blocking Satoguya’s eyes, "We still have a chance..."
"Bang!"
The sound of the gun fired, a streak of blood-red accompanied by the crisp gunshot, sliced through the shadows under the darkness of the two Giant Beasts.
