Chapter 311: Chapter 311: Related to One’s Background

Yan Qianyi was now more concerned about this matter.

It wasn’t because she had a good temper.

Rather, it was because she was pregnant, and getting angry was bad for her health, and there was no need to get worked up over someone unimportant.

If she was really upset, she could simply wait for the dark of night and give them a beating then.

That wouldn’t affect the relationship between the Nangong Family and the Ning Family, nor would it make Mu Yunlie uncomfortable.

On the surface, she remained a generous, beautiful, and kind-hearted good girl.

"I don’t know if they know each other," Mu Yunlie said. "Actually, I don’t know much about the Ning Family’s affairs. I only know Grandpa Ning was once my grandfather’s Deputy Officer and saved my grandfather on the battlefield. Uncle Ning retired from the military to go into business years ago. I don’t have much to do with them, and the child betrothal was something my grandfather arranged single-handedly. It was only a verbal agreement between them; I never agreed to it."

Yan Qianyi nodded.

"Do you need me to check it out for you?" Mu Yunlie asked.

"No need, it’s just a small matter. I was just curious; I’ll ask Aunt Xue later."

Mu Yunlie reached over and rubbed Yan Qianyi’s head, then got back to the topic they had been discussing. "Remember, you don’t have to endure any hardship because of me, understand? You don’t have to in front of anyone."

"Okay, I got it."

After lunch, when Mu Yunlie had left, Yan Qianyi asked Aunt Xue about the matter concerning Madam Ning and her mother.

But Aunt Xue was clueless. "Miss, which Mrs. Ning are you referring to?"

Yan Qianyi quickly looked up Madam Ning’s photo online and showed it to Aunt Xue.

Aunt Xue shook her head. "I do not know her."

Yan Qianyi pondered for a moment, then searched online for Ning Nuan’s father, Ning Xiuzhuo’s, information and photo. "How about him?"

Aunt Xue examined the man in the photograph.

He was a mixed-race, with golden hair, yellow skin, and well-defined features.

"Miss, I really don’t know anyone from the Ning Family. The Yan Family has never had dealings with the Ning Family, and I have never heard the lady or the master mention them either. Why are you asking about them?"

Yan Qianyi put away the light screen. "It’s nothing, just asking. If you don’t know, never mind. I’m going to go upstairs for a nap."

Aunt Xue had come to work for the Yan Family only after her mother and Yan Hong got married.

It seems that her mother’s acquaintance with Madam Ning must have been before she married Yan Hong.

Madam Ning had called her mother a fox and a mistress, which might mean they had a love entanglement when they were younger, or perhaps her mother had an entanglement with one of Madam Ning’s friends?

She suddenly thought of her brother’s origins.

Perhaps it was related to her brother’s background.

Yan Hong should know something; she would find time to ask him when she had a chance.

Yan Qianyi lay on her bed thinking for a while, and soon fell asleep.

Since she had become pregnant, she easily felt tired and became quite sleepy.

...

The next day, after the afternoon classes ended, the students participating in the Military Academy’s friendly competition were required to stay back for training.

Mai Hunter and Vick were responsible for training the four students from the Special Department.

Yan Qianyi had not yet revealed that she had awakened her special ability.

Because her Spiritual Power Value was too high, Yun Mu, Xue Xiaoguang, and Wang Shanshan couldn’t train with her.

Mai Hunter then taught her individually how to control spiritual power, advising her to directly suppress the opponent with spiritual power during competitions.

By the time training ended, it was already nine o’clock in the evening.

After three hours of training, all four of them had used up their spiritual power and were somewhat tired.

Mai Hunter said, "Yan Qianyi doesn’t need to stay for training anymore."

"Why?" Vick asked.

"She has already mastered the control of spiritual power very well and doesn’t need to spend this time," Mai Hunter replied.

He spoke the truth, but Mai Hunter still had his own ulterior motives.

He knew that Yan Qianyi was usually very busy and was hoping she would quickly find the medicine to heal Shirley sooner rather than later.

Vick said, "But her control of spiritual power hasn’t reached perfection, and her special ability hasn’t awakened. She should focus on improving her weaknesses and continue training!"

Mai Hunter gave Vick an eye roll, "Yan Qianyi is my student, just take care of your own student, Wang Shanshan."

Vick rolled his eyes in retort, "The principal asked us to train them together, so I am responsible. If you want to slack off, I’ll train her."

Although Yan Qianyi wasn’t one of his second class students, he was responsible for training the competing students. If Yan Qianyi shone in the competition, it would reflect well on him too.

Mai Hunter said mockingly, "Her Spiritual Power Value is even higher than yours, what could you possibly train her?"

Vick was dismissive, "It’s not about who has a higher Spiritual Power Value. I have more theoretical knowledge and experience than her, so I can teach her how to control spiritual power better!"

Mai Hunter retorted, "Her eighty Spiritual Power Value, along with her current control ability, is enough to completely overpower opponents in the competition, why bother doing more?"

Vick replied, "Yes, I know you’ve inquired, among all the Special Departments of the Federation Empire military academies, nobody has a higher Spiritual Power Value than her. But do you know the situation in other countries? Yan Qianyi’s abilities are enough to win domestic championships, but when it comes to competing, she will face military academy students from other countries. Your arrogance and complacency, if she loses, I wonder how you’ll explain it to the principal!"

Mai Hunter said, "You needn’t worry yourself about that."

The two teachers exchanged words back and forth, with Yan Qianyi and the others standing by, looking from one to the other.

Mai Hunter and Vick were like natural enemies at school, quickly starting an argument every time they spoke.

And yet, the principal insisted they train them together.

They didn’t even need training—just watching them bicker was enough.

Seeing the two grow increasingly intense, almost escalating to physical contact, Yan Qianyi hastily intervened, "Please don’t argue!"

Both turned to look at her simultaneously.

Yan Qianyi said, "I also think that I don’t need to stay for training in the future."

Mai Hunter smiled smugly, glancing at Vick, "You see, my student thinks the same as I do, so don’t meddle."

Vick’s face darkened, "Yan Qianyi, I am doing this for your benefit! Are you still holding a grudge from when you and Shanshan fought over a bed on the freshman enrolment day and I helped Shanshan?"

At these words, Wang Shanshan felt somewhat embarrassed.

Her Uncle really knew how to bring up the most inconvenient topics.

Right now, she just wanted Yan Qianyi to forget their past squabbles, but her Uncle kept reminding them.

Vick pompously said, "This is about bringing glory to the school and to the nation. As a soldier, you should distinguish between public and private matters, put aside personal grievances, and prioritize the nation in matters of importance!"

Yan Qianyi smiled.

Unexpectedly, although Vick was protective of his own, he had a patriotic heart.

She said, "Teacher Vick, you misunderstand. I haven’t taken the past to heart. Thank you for your good intentions. But I agree with Teacher Mai Hunter—I really don’t need to stay for further training."
