Chapter 297: Chapter 297: Better a Short Pain than a Long One

She cleared her throat and walked forward to gently pat the female student on the shoulder.

"Student, did you not know that Teacher Mu is already married?"

The female student looked at Yan Qianyi, her eyebrows raising slightly as she smiled, "Just because he’s married, I can’t have a word with Teacher Mu?"

The entire school knew that Mu Yunlie and Yan Qianyi were married; there was no way this female student didn’t know.

Yan Qianyi also smiled at the female student, "But Teacher Mu doesn’t like talking to female students, haven’t you noticed?"

With that, she gestured with her chin toward the inside of the car.

Mu Yunlie had an indifferent expression, clearly not interested in engaging with the female student.

The female student sighed, "Student Yan, you really have good luck. But you should keep a closer eye on Teacher Mu. If he were my husband, I wouldn’t even dare let him leave the house."

"Thank you for the reminder," Yan Qianyi said graciously. "May I get in the car now?"

The female student, who had been leaning on the passenger-side window, blocking her, took a step back and even helped Yan Qianyi open the car door.

"Thank you." Yan Qianyi nodded and sat down in the car.

Only then did Mu Yunlie turn his head.

When he faced her, his eyes were filled with a tenderness that was reserved just for her. "Why did it take you so long to come out?"

"Mai Hunter, the teacher, wanted to chat for a bit. It held me up," she explained.

"About your special ability?" Mu Yunlie asked.

Yan Qianyi paused for a moment and then nodded.

Mu Yunlie knew that the academy took Yan Qianyi’s special ability quite seriously.

Her spiritual power value had broken the Federation Military Academy’s new student record, and the school had high hopes for her; even the military was paying attention.

But because her brother was a prince of the Morris Empire, the military remained watchful of her.

Even though these matters were not within his jurisdiction, he knew that it wouldn’t be so easy for Yan Qianyi to join the Military Department smoothly after graduation.

There would be a thorough investigation.

"You don’t like being gawked at, do you? Then don’t pick me up at the school gate next time," Yan Qianyi said.

"It’s okay."

He used to dislike being the center of attention, but now it was different.

He wanted everyone to know that Yan Qianyi was his wife, especially those boys whose eyes lit up at the sight of her.

Mu Yunlie asked, "Weren’t you angry just now?"

"Angry about what?"

"That female student."

"Oh, her?" Yan Qianyi finally understood. "No, I’m not angry."

Mu Yunlie furrowed his brows, "Aren’t you jealous?"

Yan Qianyi shook her head.

Seeing that Mu Yunlie’s mood had suddenly changed, she realized and laughed.

"You think everyone is as big of a jealous jar as you are? Not being jealous doesn’t mean I don’t care. It’s because I trust you."

And compared to those women who operate in the shadows, the female student just now was forthright.

She had no need to feel jealousy or anger over someone insignificant.

"Just because I trust you," instantly softened Mu Yunlie’s expression to one of tenderness.

"Then you must always trust me."

"I can’t guarantee ’always’; it still depends on your behavior."

Mu Yunlie couldn’t help but chuckle, leaning over to fasten her seatbelt for her and asked, "What would you like for lunch?"

Thinking they would visit the grave later, Yan Qianyi didn’t have much of an appetite.

But not wanting Mu Yunlie to notice anything amiss, she casually said, "It’s getting a bit cold; let’s have some warm soup pot."

After the car started, the female student who had spoken to them still stood there, watching Mu Yunlie’s receding vehicle.

Envy filled her eyes.

Though all just human, why do some people have such good fortune, ah...

The girl sighed, turned around, and was suddenly startled by Ning Nuan standing behind her.

"Ning Nuan! What are you doing? You scared me to death!"

The girl and Ning Nuan were in the same class, so she recognized her.

Ning Nuan looked at the girl with a faint smile, "In broad daylight, you get scared like this—have you done something wrong?"

The girl frowned, "What do you mean?"

Ning Nuan said coldly, "Teacher Mu isn’t someone you can fancy."

"Is that any of your business?"

"What you do outside of school is indeed none of my business, but let me warn you, Teacher Mu is not like those men you mess around with outside."

The girl snorted with laughter and rolled her eyes at Ning Nuan.

She couldn’t stand Ning Nuan’s holier-than-thou, pure-as-ice demeanor.

"What does Teacher Mu’s business have to do with you anyway? I remember, weren’t you engaged to the grandson of the former Commander? What, you fancy Teacher Mu now?" the girl asked.

Ning Nuan bit her lip.

Nobody in the school knew that Brother Ah Lie was the grandson of Nangong Jie, or that he was her betrothed.

Brother Ah Lie always kept a low profile and didn’t like others knowing his identity, so she, too, had always kept silent.

The girl mocked again, "Telling me not to fancy him, looks like you’re the one doing the fancying. Lately, you’ve been getting so close to Yan Qianyi—are you trying to steal her man?"

Ning Nuan clenched her fists, holding back the urge to strike.

The education she received from a young age didn’t allow her to lose her composure.

The girl rolled her eyes at her and walked away.

Ning Nuan stood still, took a deep breath, and tried hard to control her emotions.

Now, she couldn’t reveal Brother Ah Lie’s identity even more so.

In the past, everyone envied her for being engaged to the grandson of Nangong Jie.

Though nobody had seen her fiancé, the Nangong Family’s status was untouchable for others.

If now, everyone knew that Mu Yunlie was the grandson of Nangong Jie, and that her childhood friend and betrothed had become someone else’s husband...

She would certainly be laughed at by everyone.

Ning Nuan raised her reddened eyes and looked in the direction where Mu Yunlie’s car departed, her brows deeply furrowed.

...

After lunch, Mu Yunlie took Yan Qianyi to the cemetery.

Mu Yunlie held her hand and felt her slowing down more and more, and her palm was sweaty.

He stopped and asked her, "Why are your hands all sweaty? Are you feeling uncomfortable?"

Yan Qianyi pulled out her hand and fanned it in the air, "No, I’m just feeling warm because I ate a lot."

"I’ve heard that women tend to feel hotter when they’re pregnant."

"You seem to have heard quite a bit."

Mu Yunlie smiled without saying a word.

He had actually researched on purpose.

Since it was his first time being a father, he didn’t understand many things. He wanted to take the best possible care of her by learning more.

"Let’s go," urged Yan Qianyi.

The closer she got to the tombstones of Mu Yunlie’s parents, the more nervous she became.

But it was something she couldn’t avoid.

It’s better to get it over with quickly than to draw out the pain.

Mu Yunlie led Yan Qianyi to a gravestone, "We’re here."

He let go of her hand and placed the fresh flowers he was holding in front of the gravestone.

"Dad, Mom, this is Qianyi, my wife. I brought her here today specially to meet you."

Yan Qianyi stood stiffly in front of the tombstone, her gaze blankly staring at the names on it.

Although she had prepared herself mentally,

At this moment, she still felt suffocated...
