Chapter 174: Chapter 174: A Name Specially Chosen for You
Yan Chuhua always found it easy to discern things from others’ eyes.
The two disguised individuals were taken aback and hadn’t expected to be seen through upon arrival.
One of them was about to pull out an energy gun, but was struck by an energy bullet from Yun Mu.
Yun Mu had foreseen their next move and acted before they could.
Taking advantage of the situation, Yun Mu grabbed his backpack and, pulling Yan Chuhua along, took off running.
The other person gave chase, but the night was too dark, and once Yun Mu and his companion dived into the jungle, they disappeared from sight.
Breathing heavily, Yan Chuhua asked, "Why are we running? Don’t you have a gun? Just shoot them!"
"They’re in instructor uniforms; they must have come prepared. Continuing the fight would only draw more enemies. The priority now is to find Qianyi and the others!"
Yan Chuhua nodded, realizing Yun Mu had thought things through.
She hurried to contact Yan Qianyi through her artificial intelligence system but discovered the call failed.
"Yun Mu, my system suddenly has no signal, try yours."
Yun Mu looked at his wrist and frowned, "My signal’s gone too. It must be those people jamming us."
At that moment, quiet murmurs could be heard in the tranquil mountain, and the birds in the jungle were stirred into chaotic flight.
Yan Chuhua leaned closer to Yun Mu, uneasy, "This mountain was arranged by the school, right? How could bad people sneak in here? Could it be a test set up by the school?"
Yun Mu shook his head. "No, I foresaw that man aiming to shoot at your leg. If it were a school-arranged test, they wouldn’t actually harm the students."
That was why he had fired at that person without hesitation.
"The students didn’t bring food or weapons with them... I’m afraid..." Yan Chuhua didn’t dare to continue, "We need to hurry and find Qianyi and Xiaoguang!"
Yun Mu nodded and, taking Yan Chuhua’s hand, started searching in the direction Yan Qianyi and the others had gone.
Following behind him, Yan Chuhua glanced at the micro energy gun he was clutching tightly, "Yun Mu... how... how come you have a gun on you?"
Carrying firearms was illegal.
And that morning, when they headed into the mountains, the instructors had checked all their belongings.
Xue Xiaoguang hiding chocolate was one thing; that was small and couldn’t be detected by scanners.
But Yun Mu’s firearm couldn’t have possibly gone through the scanner undetected.
When asked by Yan Chuhua, Yun Mu’s back tensed noticeably.
After a moment, he said, "I had a tip that this year’s wilderness comprehensive training would be set in these mountains, so I came here in advance to hide a handgun, just in case."
"Wow, you’re so smart. It’s a good thing you had a plan B, or we might not have been able to escape just now," Yan Chuhua praised him, looking at his back.
She sucked on the undiscarded fruit pit in her mouth, "If you had hidden some food in advance, that would have been even better. Then we wouldn’t have to struggle so much."
"Right, I was careless."
There were no signs on the mountain paths, and enemies were frequently seen nearby.
They had to keep hidden the whole way, could not turn on their wristband lights, and definitely couldn’t shout for Yan Qianyi.
Until the day began to lighten, they had not found Yan Qianyi or Xue Xiaoguang.
Yan Chuhua was so anxious that her eyes reddened, "Yun Mu, do you think Qianyi and the others might have already been captured?"
Yun Mu’s brows were deeply furrowed, his mind more anxious than Yan Chuhua’s.
Although Yan Qianyi was somewhat capable, they had nothing on them.
While their opponents were well-prepared, the signals in the mountains had been jammed, and it was likely that even the school was unaware of people being captured throughout the night.
As dawn approached, the school finally noticed something was wrong and immediately contacted the Military Department.
Mu Yunlie, upon hearing the news, rushed to the command center at the Military Department.
The Federation Military Academy had stood for hundreds of years and never before had anything like this happened.
In the earlier years, when all empires collectively fought against the alien species, even despite some disagreements between nations, they wouldn’t harm innocent students.
The location for the students’ field training had always been a collaboration between the military and academy staff, a carefully guarded secret.
Now that such an incident had occurred, there must have been a traitor on the inside who leaked this sensitive information.
At this moment, everyone in the command room wore a look of tension, fearing they might be implicated.
When Mu Yunlie entered the command room, everyone held their breath.
Both the principal and the person responsible for the comprehensive field training were there.
"Lord Commander," the principal pleaded anxiously, "please, you must save the children!"
Mu Yunlie was still wearing his silver mask that covered his entire face, leaving only his eyes visible.
But at this moment, no one dared to look into his eyes.
He swiftly turned his glare toward the person in charge, "The academy’s system had located all the students before, and after their personal systems got blocked, the location display would freeze! Why wasn’t the anomaly detected immediately?!"
The responsible officer stammered, "We checked their positions in the middle of the night, and they hadn’t moved, but... we thought the students were just tired and... were resting. And besides... they all had emergency SOS systems implanted. We hadn’t... we hadn’t expected the enemy to be able to block them..."
"Get out!" bellowed Mu Yunlie in rage, "It seems you’ve all grown too complacent from living in peace for too long, letting your guard down!"
No one dared to make a sound, not even Pei Yuexuan standing beside him dared to breathe too loudly.
He knew why the man was so furious.
Because Yan Qianyi was among those inside.
Mu Yunlie looked up at the massive light screen.
The screen displayed several split screens, footage captured by drones in the mountains, but due to signal interference, the drone images blinked and flickered, incredibly unstable.
Mu Yunlie’s eyebrows furrowed deeply, "What’s the situation now?"
"Reporting, Commander! Our troops have arrived, but the enemy has a large number of students as hostages, and we dare not act rashly."
"Pei Yuexuan."
"Present!"
"Did you find out who our opponent is?"
"Not yet..."
Mu Yunlie’s piercing gaze swept across the screen and he commanded icily, "Zoom in on camera position 28."
The operator immediately complied, and the full-screen display showed the view from camera 28.
In the footage, the students knelt on the ground, surrounded by a group of head-covered figures in black, each armed with an energy gun.
The person leading them was dressed in dark navy.
Mu Yunlie searched the crowd for Yan Qianyi, "Zoom in."
The drone drew closer to the lead figure, who noticed it.
He looked up in the direction of the drone and arrogantly crooked his finger.
Mu Yunlie ordered, "Descend, continue zooming in."
The drone moved closer to the man.
The man spoke to the camera, "Tell your First Commander to speak to me."
Mu Yunlie responded, "I’m here, who are you? What do you want?"
The man chuckled, "You can call me Terminator, the Federation Empire’s First Terminator; I chose this name especially for you. Do you like it?"
Mu Yunlie sneered coldly, "Surrender now, and I might consider sparing your miserable life."
"Ha ha ha..." The Terminator laughed wildly, arrogant and unrestrained, "Come to see me alone. If I see that you’ve brought people, for each one, I’ll kill a student. These are the future hopes of your Federation Empire, after all. I’ll be waiting for you."
