Chapter 41: The Feelings I hate...
Chapter 41: The Feelings I hate...
"Why... am I feeling this way? What have you done to me?" I asked.
I felt strange. Like something was shifting inside me, something I didn’t understand.
"Don’t worry. It’s an ability of mine," she said, calm like this was normal.
"What the hell did—?" I started yelling, but then it hit me.
I was... moving.
"What...?" I muttered, blinking down at myself. I was sitting upright.
I hadn’t even realized it.
"What’s happening?" I asked, my voice quiet now.
"Well... think of it as me sharing my ability to function with you," she said. "But don’t go too far from me. Unless..."
She trailed off.
But I’d already caught her drift.
She’s trying to make me dependent on her.
So I can’t escape.
Why?
Why is she doing all this?
I don’t even know her.
It doesn’t make sense.
It’s driving me insane.
What does she want from me?
Sigh.
It’s just like it was with Sasha.
She was persistent too.
No matter how much I tried to push her away, she kept coming back. Smiling. Laughing. Acting like I meant something.
But I never understood why.
I wasn’t good-looking.
I wasn’t rich. Not even close. She had money. Power. Options.
So what could she have possibly wanted from me?
There was only one answer I could ever come up with.
A tool.
She wanted to use me.
For what, I never figured out. Maybe just to prove she could. Maybe to build me up and break me down for fun. Either way, I was determined not to let her win.
I didn’t give in.
I fought back.
But in the end... I still lost.
The day my body gave out. The day I became a cripple.
My debt piled up. I couldn’t even work to earn a living, let alone pay it off.
That’s when she returned.
Sasha.
With her offer.
And that was the moment everything ended.
I fell.
Hard.
And just like I feared, she showed me why I was never meant to be happy.
She and the world reminded me.
Now here I am again—faced with someone else I don’t understand. Someone who’s already wrapped herself around my weakness like a vine, growing fast and tight.
Another Sasha.
Another endless smile I can’t read.
And I feel it again—that strange warmth, that dangerous comfort—but I won’t accept it.
I refuse to fall for it again.
Maybe fate is mocking me.
But this time... it won’t end the same.
"So... you could do this all along?" I asked.
She just looked at me.
Didn’t answer.
And now that I think about it—if she can make me move again...
What’s stopping her from paralyzing me?
In an instant.
My blood ran cold.
Wait.
Doesn’t that mean she was the one who—
"I know what you’re thinking... No," she said quietly.
"Huh?"
"I didn’t cripple you," she said, her voice softer. "As much as I... sigh. Look, I can’t hurt you. Just know that."
Then she turned and began to walk away.
Wait...
How is this even possible?
I looked down.
I could move.
Haah...
How hilarious.
How terrifying.
I looked ahead.
"Wait up!" I called, stumbling forward.
She said not to go too far.
She didn’t stop.
Just kept walking.
"Damn it..."
My body felt foreign. Like I was controlling it from the outside, in third-person.
"I said wait..." I gasped as I reached out and caught her hand.
She turned around, her gaze calm.
"Need help?" she asked.
I hesitated... then nodded.
Shamelessly.
I was exhausted. Just catching up to her felt like running a marathon.
"Alright," she said, her hand tightening around mine. "Don’t let go."
Suddenly, a strange feeling enveloped me.
Light.
Weightless.
Pleasant.
What is this...?
It felt good.
Damn.
It felt... intoxicating.
"What’s this feeling?" I asked, dazed.
She smiled again—that same smile.
"You like it, don’t you?"
"...Yeah," I admitted quietly.
"I lowered the pressure this place exerts on you and boosted the fluidity between your brain and your body," she said, grinning cheekily. "Wanna see what else I can do?"
I nodded slowly.
She stopped walking, then looked at me with a sparkle in her eye.
"Ever wonder what it feels like to fly?" she asked.
"What?" I tilted my head. Did I hear her right?
To fly?
"I know you want to," she said before I could reply, and took my other hand.
Suddenly—
I felt weightless again.
No.
This time, I wasn’t just light.
I was floating.
"What the hell—?!"
Gravity lost its grip on me.
I rose slowly off the ground, like a balloon cut from its string.
"Don’t let go," she said calmly, still standing firmly on the ground as I drifted upward.
"...I’m flying," I whispered, eyes wide.
I really was.
"Calm down," she smiled, stepping forward.
Then, in a blink—she hugged me.
"Hug me back if you don’t want to get lost in space."
"Y-you wouldn’t..."
She stepped back slightly, met my eyes, and grinned.
"You know I can."
Yeah.
I did.
Sigh.
I hugged her back.
Tightly.
"See? That wasn’t so hard," she laughed softly.
"Why... are you doing this?" I finally asked.
Her hair brushed against my cheek, and I caught the soft scent of flowers.
It felt... good.
Dangerously good.
Sigh.
It’s happening again, isn’t it?
"I don’t want you to be alone this time," she whispered.
"I’m not alone," I said quietly.
"Yeah... because you have me now," she smiled.
"I hate you," I said, almost like a reflex.
"I know," she replied, her voice just as soft.
"And trust me—" her eyes met mine, calm and honest, "I hate you too."
