Hero? Are You Worthy?

Chapter 158: Chapter 116 Hero? I’m Not Doing It Anymore (8)_2

In an instant, the area was thrice surrounded, with people pointing and whispering softly.

The leading general charged forward, grabbing Qin Chu by the collar. His burly, furry arm nearly lifted Qin Chu’s entire body up.

He was originally a desperado, and it was only because of the Prince that he had soared to his current position. He would faithfully execute the Prince’s orders, without concerning himself with the consequences.

"You bastard, can’t you watch where you’re going? Didn’t you see that my men were injured, and yet you deliberately bumped into him?" the general rebuked loudly.

Angelica wanted to argue — their master had already made way; it was the soldier who had carelessly bumped into him — but Qin Chu stopped her with a look.

Qin Chu showed no intention of resisting; he merely smiled slightly, gazing quietly at the man before him.

That gaze seemed to possess the power to see through everything. Although Qin Chu had done nothing, it unnerved the general.

It was as if the brave man before him knew all about his plans.

Impossible, right? The brave man had been away for several days and had only returned last night. He must be overthinking it.

Besides, even if he knew, what could he do? The brave of today was nothing but a weakling. But with the Prince backing him, there was no need to fear this brave who hadn’t yet come into his full strength. The Prince had promised that once things were settled, he would grant him a beautiful maid from his household and a large sum of mana. In these times, who knew when they might die? Better to enjoy life first...

As the conflict seemed ready to erupt, Nicholas stepped forward with his guards. Of course, he did not disperse the circle of wounded soldiers.

"General Horn, please calm down. This is just a misunderstanding. You may not know, but this person is the brave. I believe Mr. Brave didn’t do it on purpose," Nicholas reasoned.

Nicholas had been paid off.

With that, he had confirmed the incident of running into the other person himself.

The general named Horn seemed to have been waiting for these words; his fierce, crimson eyes swept over Qin Chu, then across Angelica and the impressively tall Violet beside him, before a twisted smile appeared on his rough face: "The brave?"

"Can a brave be so arrogant and reckless, bumping into people in the street?"

"Our brothers have just returned from battling demons on the battlefield, each one of them bearing wounds. For the brave to so recklessly knock our brother aside, isn’t that bullying the honest? Is there no justice? No law?" General Horn vociferously complained, putting Qin Chu in a very bad position.

Qin Chu was somewhat speechless, feeling that the last two phrases sounded familiar, as if he had heard them somewhere before.

Rustling sounds came from around, seeming to agree that even a brave should not be so overbearing, especially towards soldiers returning from the battlefield with honorable scars.

The whispers around only made Horn more smug. He bared his huge, toothy grin: "So what if he’s a brave? While our brothers are fighting demons at the front, you’re just cozying up in the Imperial City, doing nothing. You call yourself a brave?"

"We summoned the brave to fight against demons; you should be on the battlefield, not indulging in luxury here, surrounded by women."

"Tsk, two beautiful ladies by your side, having fun, are you?"

Upon saying this, a group of brainless nobles quite agreed.

The voices criticizing Qin Chu began to arise from all around.

"That’s right, although he’s called a brave, it seems like he hasn’t done anything?"

"Don’t say that, Mr. Brave is still growing and needs time..."

"But he doesn’t seem to be growing at all, rather he’s just with two pretty girls."

"Is this person really a brave? I don’t think he’s worthy at all, especially when compared to the First Generation Brave."

"What has he contributed to our world, fetching a salary of a hundred thousand Mana every month... That’s nearly enough for me to buy a new dress."

"I heard he’s juggling four women..."

"Please, isn’t the Hero supposed to be vanquishing demons? Has he come here to play with women instead? Summoned outsiders really won’t devote themselves wholeheartedly to our Sky Dome Continent."

The accusing voices around Angelica made her face turn red with anger, her body trembling with fury, wanting to argue back but the voices were simply too many, leaving her unsure of how to respond.

Amidst them, there were a few sparse voices speaking in Qin Chu’s defense, but unfortunately, these were quickly overwhelmed by the loud clamor.

Violet was also somewhat baffled; she couldn’t believe that after a thousand years, the human world had become so terrible.

She looked at Qin Chu skeptically, wondering if it really was necessary to defend these people against demons.

This truly was a rotten world populated by rotten people, whose souls had long decayed.

Such people might as well be left to fend for themselves.

The voices of blame grew louder and louder, and Qin Chu’s expression grew increasingly grim until, after a few seconds, he suddenly burst out,

"Shut the fuck up, all of you."

His shout rolled like thunder.

Everyone just felt buzzing in their ears, their words stuck in their throats, unable to come out.

No one could have anticipated that this seemingly inactive Hero, even now, would dare to be so arrogant.

Qin Chu looked dreadful. Though General Horn was a seasoned warrior who had experienced many battlefields, at that moment, the look on Qin Chu’s face sent a shiver of fear down his spine. When Qin Chu’s gaze swept over the many nobles and landed on him, making eye contact, Horn felt a tingling on his scalp.

Finally, Qin Chu spoke, his voice cold and piercing:

"Hero? Who the hell cares about being the Hero?"

"You think you’re so great on the Sky Dome Continent? Don’t summon a Hero then; go and fight the demons yourselves, stop relying on the Hero’s strength!"

"It wouldn’t work, would it? If it weren’t for the First Generation Brave, all of you on the Sky Dome Continent would probably have been exterminated long ago, right?"

"I was living a good life in my own world when suddenly you summoned me here. I haven’t even complained yet, and you all are whining—what are you even worth?"

"Saying I haven’t done anything?"

"Who found out hundreds of demon spies in the Imperial City? If it weren’t for me getting rid of those spies, how many of you would have died?"

Suddenly, there was an eerie silence all around, and the nobles looked away, some unable to meet Qin Chu’s intense gaze.

"Remember, I was forcefully summoned here. Whether the Sky Dome Continent lives or dies, exists or is destroyed, has nothing to do with me, not even half a Mana. Even if the Sky Dome Continent were trampled by demons, I really wouldn’t care."

"You don’t welcome me, an outsider, right?"

"Fine, starting today, I’m done trying..."

"This Hero, I quit."

Make a fuss, Qin Chu was determined to escalate the situation!
