Chapter 309: Caught
Chapter Three Hundred-Nine – Caught
It’d been a hard discovery for the Princess, and a painful moment of realization. Threats were easier said than done!
She buried her head in her pillow as a week passed since she’d been in the King’s palace. At the point, it’s a kidnap because Thales had returned to Damancas without her.
The plan had to be reported to be an incomplete success and only Thales had the proof. Laurel didn’t know how Bebe had been faring but Zeldris had spoken positively.
"This doesn’t make sense anymore." Laurel rolled to her back. The King didn’t speak to her and all she did was wake, eat, attempt to train alone, fail, and sleep again.
The cycle never changed and she stayed alone. It felt worse than staying in a prison, even if her room was all sparkling and ’princessy’.
She felt like she came as a bride of another Kingdom and would stay as the King’s consort till he’s ready to get to know her.
Those thoughts sent a shiver down her spine.
"Could King Asher actually be lonely?" she left the bed. "Is that why he didn’t let me go back? No way, right?"
Nether and Nero never left his side so why would be feel lonely? And if Thales was right and he didn’t value them, then would it be her, a werewolf he hated, that he’d value?
She rolled out of bed and crawled to her bag. She’d have to take the chance and escape again, this time, using her only trump card.
She had noticed when she wore the shorts, that she realized was inappropriate, the King reduced the guards around her room.
Then told her she could be an exhibitionist if she wanted. It embarrassed her because that hadn’t been her intention at all, and Nether never came for her head slam.
She pulled the charm out of her bag and tied it under her dress. She patted it so it wouldn’t budge out of the dress and she covered her hair with a yellow shawl.
From a distance, she’d look like a blond girl running about the halls so that if Nether noticed her, she’d think it’s some servant. Laurel peeked out of the room.
"Safe." She stepped out and listened in for movements.
The halls had a deafening silence and she stomped loudly along the hall to make sure she didn’t get swallowed up by the silence.
Her steps slowed when she heard muttering at the end of the hall. She caught Nether’s scent and narrowed her eyes at the section she stood guard at.
She turned to follow the other route since Nether seemed to be with a visitor and couldn’t catch her scent.
"Huh? Lunaria too!"
Laurel paused when she heard that. What deal with Lunaria would make Nether worried?
"I’m serious, Nene. It’d turn to a war soon. Lunaria resumed their lycan experiments and plan to make more bred lycans with magic for the near future warriors."
The voice of the other speaker sounded unfamiliar to Laurel but she could feel the ring in her hands glowing as she snuck closer to the two.
That’d mean the speaker was a witch, with Nether a lycan assassin who served a werewolf-witch-killing Lycan King. This witch would be the one Thales spoke about.
When he had said that they were witches that served the Lycan Alpha King, he added that he had a sure way to make them switch sides.
"I need to figure out her name." Laurel muttered to herself. With a name, Thales could find her details in the witch’s record and handle her when he returned.
Nether sighed, closing her eyes. "Lunaria too? I didn’t think they’d actually be offended by what the King did and would resume their experimentations."
The witch scoffed, looking away. "What your King is doing to werewolves is bad though. Do you really blame only Lunaria? Why don’t you say anything?"
Laurel snuck closer to hear a name but Nether answered the question normally, stating that she didn’t care as it’s not part of her job description.
It sounded less reasonable than the reason Stefan gave, but Laurel understood it as she didn’t want to get involved with someone as troublesome as Asher.
But in Laurel’s case, she had to get involved if not all she cared about could become victims to the King.
She left the two and hurried to the other section so that they wouldn’t notice she’d been eavesdropping.
"Lunaria broke their promise." Elma said as Laurel moved around the hall, looking for a possible exit.
The Princess shrugged, somewhat nonchalantly. She couldn’t do much about Lunaria. It started from High Moon Kingdom so she’d concentrate there.
Also, Lunaria’s action will be punished by the council, but Asher’s crime wasn’t yet well known.
She met another dead-end and turned to followed another path, then she paused, staring at him.
He definitely played with her if he showed up at the times when she didn’t need him.
"Hey King. I came this far today. I almost escaped." She pointed at a large window that would’ve been her cue to escape if she had met another dead-end.
Asher arranged his hair neatly, being oddly calm. "I see. You came really far this time and while being... scentless."
Laurel realized she had no scent and stepped back. She didn’t have to explain to him but this time, he’d guess she used magic to hide her scent.
"Well, I’d punish Nene and make her be more careful. Nero will be watching you while Nene is being punished." He said in a flat tone that worried Laurel.
Her hands dropped to her side. So if she tried escaping, Nene and Nero will take the brunt of it? This King really didn’t care about her people.
She folded her arms. She cared less about what happened to the lycans who hurt Bebe and aid their King in kidnapping her.
She strolled past the King, and glared at him. "So you really kidnapped me here. Can I know why?"
Asher spun around, but said nothing and walked away.
