Chapter 138: Confession to Fraud

Chapter 138: Confession to Fraud

In a sudden move, Constantine turned around and sat up straight on his now stinging vent. "What did you do that for, Sir? Wasn’t my vent pleasing to you? Is something wrong with it, Sir? I washed and cleaned it just like you instructed."

"The first thing, young man, you can tell me why you’re lying to me. Why is this folder full of lies? Why were you sent by your ranch? You’ve never ever been topped—your vent’s brand-new. Hasn’t anyone even touched you back there?" Ben demanded.

Constantine looked at him and started to cry. "Sir, you have to do this. You have to do this. I cannot return back to my ranch unless I’m bred. I’ll find somebody that will—somebody has to breed me. I can’t lose my brothers."

Ben sat beside the young man who was crying profusely. "Okay, son, start with the truth. Tell me how old you are, how many cycles you’ve been through since you transitioned, and why you have to be bred. Why would it matter about your brothers being lost?"

Constantine wiped his eyes. "My dad left. I’m the oldest, and I’ve got a brand-new infant brother since I transitioned. I’ve been feeding him with my nectar because it’s good for a newborn. I owe for my family’s debt. My dad completed his contract, and as soon as the last one was born, he left within hours. Now all of my debt and my brother’s debt falls on to me, and I have to birth three children for the master that owns us to secure our freedom."

Ben stopped Constantine right there. "I’m going to make a phone call, young man. Put your robe back on—you’re not going anywhere. I want you to tell your story to Mr. Zach and to two other people. One’s name is Martin and the other one is Hanz, and don’t worry about anything. You’re not in trouble—not at all. You’re at the Z1 now. You’re safe, and I can assure you that your brothers will be also."

Ben retrieved his cell communicator and called a code orange at breeding facility C. Everyone knew what this meant and who was supposed to respond.

Ben walked over and unlocked Chas and let him out of the cubicle so that he could sit next to Constantine since they were roughly the same age.

Chas introduced himself to Constantine and told him that the people at the Z1 were very kind and very good to every Genmen that was in trouble or just in a rough spot and needed sanctuary. He told him about Xavier and how he came to be, and that he had just transitioned himself a few days earlier. "They had me here to watch what a breeding should look like so that I won’t hurt my mate when we finally consummate our relationship with each other as a bonded pair."

Constantine looked at Chas. "A bonded pair? You mean you don’t have to let just any and every Genmen that they send your way crawl on top of you and put it inside of you and keep your belly round every nine months for three years?"

"No, you don’t. Here we have a choice. We can either choose to use the breeding program to conceive a child of our choice, or we can choose to pick a mate and stay with him for as long as we want, having children with him as often or as little as we want. No one’s ever forced to do anything they don’t want to, but it doesn’t come free. We have jobs we work at, and we sell our nectar—what we have left—on the market. Ty gets the best market price he can, and the funds are transferred to our own accounts so that we can buy new clothing or any special thing that we want that’s not furnished here by the Z1," Chas explained.

"Yeah, what are you going to do on 2 Cronaks per ounce? It would take a long time to build up money," Constantine replied.

Ben interrupted. "Constantine, how much is nectar going for on the open market at your ranch per your owner?"

"He said it went up again—now it’s up to 8 Cronaks per ounce, Sir. He says the stuff my glands produce will be poured out on the ground, it’s worth so little. That’s the reason I owe him so much for me and my brothers to stay there," Constantine answered.

Ben looked at Constantine. "Son, you’ve been lied to. Genmen nectar sells for 800 Cronaks per ounce on the open market for the ranches. Your owner has been stealing money from all of you living there."

"But I can never leave from the owner, Sir. He says he owns me since my father had to pay a very big debt with his vent and conceived me. He’s always hated me since forever, says I’m a Halfwit or a Halfling and that I should have been smothered when I was born," Constantine said quietly.

Zach heard the last bit of Constantine’s conversation with Ben about him being a halfling and that he should have been smothered when he was born. Zach was pissed—he would make it his mission to destroy that ranch and to take every one of the Genmen and bring them to the Z1 for freedom.

Constantine was on a full-out crying fit when Zach wrapped his arms around him, pulled him close to him and stroked his hair. "Young man, you have a place here to live forever. You will never be forced to do anything that you don’t want to do in life, because you’re not a halfwit and you’re not a halfling. You’re what we call a hybrid—you carry genetic DNA of both species, human and Genmen. You are the best of everything, and never ever forget that and sell yourself short."

Martin, Hanz and Angela arrived at the center to interview Constantine. Zach told Ben to take young Chas back to the house so he could process what he’d heard and what he saw, that he might need to talk to someone himself. Ben agreed and had Chas leave with him.

On the way to his cottage, young Chas and Ben talked. "You know, Chas, he’s gonna need a friend. He’s about his same age, someone that’s been through a couple of bumps in his own life. You know, somebody that might have a young child also—he’s raising his three younger siblings, one who is a very young babe—and someone that is not trying to get into his vent," Ben said.

Chas looked down. "Sir, there’s only one vent that I want to get into, and it belongs to Roger. I realize we’re both young, we both recently transitioned, and yes, with Xavier and his baby brother, we do have a lot in common, so we can be friends. But I’m not laying a finger on him even if he begs me to."

"My young man, that sounds better. You need a friend, and he needs one also. You do know the vacant house next door? Well, if he decides to stay, that’s where his family will be. I know it was supposed to been for Stephen and Clark, but I think when they hear the story about Constantine, they’ll be okay with it. You two can be buddies. Maybe you can even get your dad to help him by teaching him how to cook also. It would be very convenient—babies next door and next door people friends. You know we’re all about family here, and that’s what he needs, a family," Ben explained.

Ben and Chas walked into the house, and Donnie could tell there was something weighing on his son, so he asked him how it went.

"It was different, not what I thought it would be. You have to get to know your partner before you create a child. Even if that partner’s from another ranch, you have to know what he’s going through in his head so that the event is pleasurable for him and causes no damage. Ben’s a gentleman, and being that he realized that there was something very wrong tonight with the young man that arrived for breeding... Constantine is going to need a lot of help and a few friends, and I intend to be one to him, a true friend. Dad, do you mind taking on another student, training someone else to be a chef if he wishes to be one?" Chas asked.

"No, Chas, I don’t mind helping anyone out. What the hell happened this afternoon at that breeding?" Donnie replied.

Ben cleared his throat. "Well, let’s say greed, greed and more greed, and a not-so-honorable ranch owner who will be receiving a visit from the GBI, full force. You will have a new neighbor next door—Constantine and his three younger siblings will be taking that cottage until we can build a new one for Stephen and Clark."

Donnie smiled. "Well, it looks like I might be cooking a care package for them when they get here. We need to make sure it’s clean and all the linens are changed on the beds and it’s set up for however many people will be staying there."

Chas hugged his dad’s neck. "If I haven’t told you lately, I love you and I appreciate everything that you do for me and Xavier."
