Chapter 155: Side Story: Morin in the Republic of Mara (Part 19)
That would involve another grand ceremony.
Morin clasped his hands, deep in thought.
He had been sent abroad due to some trouble he caused—would he even be allowed to attend it?
Technically, he wasn’t permitted to return home yet.
"Morin," Qi Yu said, "I have a letter and a message from Xinghui and Ignatius."
"My mother and father?"
"They say, ’Come home.’"
At those words, the one who stiffened wasn’t Morin—it was Malvis.
His grip tightened painfully around Morin’s hand.
Seeing him look down as if trying to endure something, Morin thought for a moment, then he gently shook his head.
"Just for the occasion, that’s all."
"Yes, only for the duration of the ceremony," Qi Yu added.
"Huh?"
Both Malvis and Morin looked at him.
Qi Yu gave them a slightly mischievous smile as he handed over an invitation.
It included the date of the ceremony—and listed Morin and Malvis as official attendees.
"Ah!"
"It’s earlier than expected, but it’s a good opportunity. Malvis, make sure you properly greet Morin’s parents."
With a mix of excitement and nervousness, Morin and Malvis exchanged looks.
Everything was happening so fast.
Time flew by, and the day of departure finally arrived.
Morin had received special permission to transform into his dragon form and now stood in a forest just beyond the Twilight City.
By his side were Malvis, Nabe, Qi Yu, and—strangely—Noel.
"Why is Noel here?" Morin asked.
"This is my workplace," Noel replied, his voice drawn out with lazy exaggeration. "At night, this place is crawling with dark-type monsters. It’s my job to hunt them~."
He was clearly just coming off a night shift, but the fact that he still showed up to see them off revealed his softer side.
"Mother, we’ll be off now."
"Don’t overthink things—just do your best. Morin, give my regards to Xinghui."
"I will!"
Morin took a few steps away from the group and shifted into his dragon form.
It had been a while, and it felt oddly refreshing.
His vision lifted as his body grew, and magic surged through every part of him.
"Wow, what a beauty," Noel said in admiration.
"A truly magnificent black dragon," added Nabe.
Hearing those words made Morin a little embarrassed.
He wasn’t yet a fully grown adult dragon, so he was still on the smaller side.
If it had been his older brother or their father, they would have transformed into much larger and more majestic black dragons.
Malvis looked up at him in surprise.
Morin had been a bit worried about that reaction.
Only dragon ma could shift between human and dragon forms, and the size difference could be overwhelming.
Even small as he was, Morin’s dragon form stood around three meters tall—more than enough to intimidate most people.
"You’re beautiful," Malvis said, eyes full of wonder and warmth.
That melted Morin’s heart.
He felt deeply embarrassed... but also incredibly happy.
And so, the two of them took off from the forest, flying toward the Black Dragon Territory.
It wouldn’t take long—maybe an hour or so.
Before long, familiar landscapes started to come into view.
’We’re almost there.’
Morin, too excited to keep it in, began explaining things to Malvis as they flew.
He pointed out the forest where he’d trained with a sword, the town where he often played as a child, sharing little stories along the way.
Malvis laughed in his arms, clearly enjoying it.
’I’m sorry, am I talking too much?’
"No, not at all. You sound so happy... You’ve made a lot of memories here."
’Yeah.’
It was a little embarrassing to open up like that—but he wanted Malvis to know more about him.
He wanted to know everything about Malvis too.
That feeling grew stronger with every beat of his wings.
When the capital city of the black dragon territory came into view, Morin landed in the forest just outside its borders and returned to his human form.
Then, hand in hand with Malvis, he entered the city.
"It’s lively," Malvis commented.
"Yeah. Everyone’s celebrating today."
After all, it was coronation day.
The streets were overflowing with celebration—free drinks and food, music from small local bands, and laughter echoing from every direction.
The entire city had transformed into a festival.
"Something like this would never happen in the Twilight City," Malvis said.
"Yeah. The demon race are usually pretty calm."
"Probably because they live so long."
That made sense.
Their average lifespan was around a thousand years.
Malvis looked a little envious.
So Morin laughed and tugged his hand.
"Then let’s have a huge wedding ceremony when it’s our turn."
"Morin?"
"I mean, I’m a dragon man groom. Don’t you think a full-on dragon-style wedding would be amazing?"
He wanted their wedding to be something joyful and grand, surrounded by people.
It might be hard for Malvis, considering his past trauma, but Morin was sure that doing it small and quiet wouldn’t feel right.
Malvis deserved to be celebrated by many, too.
Malvis looked surprised, then his cheeks turned a soft shade of red as he nodded his head.
When they arrived at the castle, they were welcomed almost immediately and led to the special seats prepared for the coronation.
Morin’s siblings were already there.
"Morin!"
"Vaelrik! Seraphina! Nyx!"
It might’ve been dramatic to call it nostalgic, but seeing them again after everything made his heart swell, and he ran straight toward them.
Vaelrik, as strong and solid as ever, caught him easily and gave him a hearty slap on the back.
"You’ve grown a lot, haven’t you?"
"You really have!"
"Seriously. Have you been well?"
"Of course I have!"
Standing a little apart, Gavi watched the affectionate reunion with a gentle smile.
He was Gabriel’s son and had grown close with Vaelrik.
"You look so much more confident now. It’s been a while, Morin," Seraphina said warmly as she walked over.
"You’re the one who hasn’t come back," he replied.
"I’m sorry. The shop’s been way too fun," she said with a laugh.
