Chapter 129: Side Story: Kaelion And Hassan’s Love Story (Part 3)

"You seem well, Seraphina," Kaelion greeted.

"Of course, brother."

"And this is...?"

When Kaelion inquired, the elf behind Seraphina gave a polite bow.

"He’s my lover—Aegnor. He works as an artisan in the metal engraving here in the capital," Seraphina said.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness. My name is Aegnor," the elf introduced himself.

"Aegnor. Thank you for looking after Seraphina. It must be tough for you to handling such a wild girl, right?"

"Oh, come on, brother!" Seraphina pouted with hands on her hips, puffing out her cheeks.

Even with that expression, she was still undeniably beautiful—her strong-willed nature only adding to her charm.

The elf named Aegnor chuckled warmly at her reaction.

There was a refined gentleness and calm in his demeanor that brought Kaelion a sense of relief.

It seemed this man Aegnor genuinely loved Seraphina just as she was—a rare kind of person.

"Thanks to her, these days have been full of joy and laughter," Aegnor said kindly.

"So that’s is. I’m glad for you, Seraphina," Kaelion replied.

"Of course!" she beamed.

As Seraphina and Aegnor left, full of cheerful energy, the most boisterous sibling came running over next.

"Big brother! Congrats!"

"Morin."

The youngest brother was still far too noisy for Kaelion’s liking, but perhaps that was just part of his charm.

His bright, innocent, and almost painfully straightforward—Morin had inherited most of their mother’s friendliness.

He wasn’t the most thoughtful, but he was earnest.

"Congratulations, brother."

"Thanks. Aren’t you living in the Republic of Mara now? What are you doing over there?"

"Ah, uh, well—that is..."

Morin stumbled over his words and nervously glanced off to the side.

Kaelion followed his gaze and spotted a particularly striking man standing nearby.

With flowing black hair and golden, ram-like horns curled twice along the sides of his head, his appearance was both elegant and alluring.

Clearly, he was a member of the Demon Race.

The man hadn’t approached earlier—likely to avoid standing out—but now, sensing Kaelion’s attention, he smiled faintly and walked over while bowing deeply with grace.

"It’s my pleasure to meet you, Your Highness. I am Malvis, son of Malrik. I’ve been keeping close company with Prince Morin."

Malrik—the King of the Republic of Mara.

That would make this man a prince—and also the son of Sir Qi Yu, a close friend of his mother.

"I appreciate you looking after Morin. He must be a handful, right?" Kaelion said.

Malvis raised an eyebrow slightly and looked over at Morin, his gaze laced with warmth and just a touch of sensuality.

Protective, patient... It suited them.

"I’ve been enjoying my time with him immensely," Malvis said.

"Then I’m relieved. If he becomes too much, just give him a good scolding—he’s obedient enough that he’ll actually reflect on it."

"Thank you for the advice," Malvis said with a refined smile, bowing once more before he and Morin departed.

As Kaelion watched them go, he couldn’t help but feel like his siblings had all found something valuable in places he hadn’t even looked.

And what about him?

Alone in his royal chambers, a heavy sense of emptiness filled Kaelion’s chest.

He knew the reason.

At some point, he had left behind his own sense of honesty.

All of his siblings who now had partners were straightforward, genuine people.

And what was he?

Kaelion had been fixated on a single man for over a hundred years—and still, nothing had changed.

"Haah..."

Maybe he should be the one to make a move? Seduce him outright? Tempt him like he had with others?

But the very idea made him shake his head. No.

That wasn’t him.

He just couldn’t bring himself to become that kind of person.

"Your Highness?"

A knock at the door, followed by that familiar voice.

Hassan who is wearing his usual stoic expression, stepped into the moonlit room.

The pale light that never spilled across the floor is the only source of illumination.

Perhaps unsettled by the dimness, Hassan walked forward without a trace of suspicion.

He had the worst timing. Kaelion was in a foul mood.

"Is something wrong?" Hassan asked.

"No."

Kaelion’s reply was more curt than usual.

Still, Hassan moved even closer to examine his face.

After all this time—after everything—he still didn’t fear Kaelion.

And just then, Kaelion felt a sudden urge to touch him.

He reached out and brushed his hand against Hassan’s cheek.

The man flinched, his body instinctively pulling away—but Kaelion grabbed his arm and pulled him close, pressing their lips together.

A shiver ran down his spine.

The sweetness of it confirmed what he already knew.

He wanted this man.

Their lips remained pressed together, but Kaelion didn’t go further.

Hassan’s wide eyes betrayed his surprise—he clearly hadn’t considered what might come next.

"Your Highness?" Hassan whispered.

"You don’t desire me at all, do you?" Kaelion asked.

"W-What?"

Hassan’s crimson eyes darted in confusion, panic stirring within them.

But Kaelion could see it—buried deep, there was heat there.

This man also want him.

He just wouldn’t admit it.

So what now? Should Kaelion force it? Push past the silence?

"...Forget it. I’ve lost interest," Kaelion muttered.

"Your Highness—"

"I’m going to bed. Tomorrow proceeds as usual."

He turned away.

Behind him, Hassan stood frozen for a moment—then quietly left the room, sensing the rejection.

Nothing ever went right.

And Kaelion still had no idea how to make this feeling come true.

Kaelion lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, his thoughts tangled in a mess of confusion and frustration.

The brief, heated kiss lingered on his lips, but it was quickly overshadowed by the gnawing emptiness within him.

Was he really ready to confront this?

To accept the emotions he had buried so long ago?

Hassan had always been a constant in his life, a loyal servant, but now there was something else.

Something far deeper that Kaelion couldn’t ignore any longer.

He clenched his fists, feeling both relief and anxiety.

Tomorrow would come, but would it bring him any closer to the truth?
