Chapter 127: Side Story: Kaelion And Hassan’s Love Story (Part 1)
The first time he was introduced to Hassan as one of his personal guards is when he had just passed his 150 year.
"It’s an honor to meet you, Your Highness Kaelion. I am Hassan, I was appointed today as your personal guard."
The man, with fiery red hair and crimson eyes, was clearly older than Kaelion.
From what he heard, Hassan had been born into a family of Red Dragon knights and had arrived here through some connection.
It had been around the time Kaelion had begun assisting his father with royal duties—an increasingly busy period.
Perhaps that was why this older man had seemed so dependable to him.
"I’ll be counting on you, Hassan."
When Kaelion stepped forward to offer a handshake, Hassan stiffened in surprise and smiled awkwardly.
It was clear that he was overwhelmed by the gesture.
His sincerity and seriousness caught Hassan off guard.
And at the same time, Kaelion couldn’t help but think—this guy might be interesting.
After Kaelion’s grandfather retired and his father ascended the throne, the Crown Prince’s residence had fallen into a flurry of activity.
As the royal family prepared to move their residence, there was much to be packed and transported.
Still, most of the staff would remain.
Only a few of them, like the king’s aides and a single maid who attended his mother, would go along.
"Sorry for all the chaos, Kaelion."
"It’s no trouble, Father."
Across from him sat his father, King Ignatius—still youthful, with a strong and commanding presence.
With a man like that on the throne, the Black Dragon Royal Family would remain safe and stable for centuries to come.
And with his mother bearing many children, there was no fear of the royal bloodline fading.
Now it was time for Kaelion and his siblings to rise to the occasion.
"We’ll be holding the coronation and your official appointment as Crown Prince simultaneously. You’ll need to come to the capital. That won’t be an issue, I assume?"
"Of course not. I was prepared for that. Will my brothers and sisters be there as well?"
"Yes, naturally. They’ll all gather in a few days."
Not all of Kaelion’s siblings lived in the Crown Prince’s residence anymore.
His younger brother, Vaelrik, was still in the military, traveling back and forth to visit his betrothed, Gavrius from the Golden Dragons Royal family.
His younger sister, Seraphina, had opened a sweets shop in the capital with their maternal grandparents—it was quite popular, from what he’d heard.
The youngest brother, Morin, had supposedly gone on a short-term exchange program in the Demon Race’s country, but for some reason, he still hadn’t returned.
Now, only Kaelion and his youngest sister, Nyx, resided here permanently.
"This place will feel a little bit empty," Ignatius said, casting a nostalgic gaze around the residence.
Kaelion found himself doing the same.
This house had always been noisy, full of people, filled with the energy of growing siblings constantly coming and going.
Even now, it wasn’t exactly quiet—but things would change.
Soon, it would feel still.
"It will be lonely," Kaelion admitted.
Ignatius smiled softly, as if apologizing, and gave a slight nod.
Kaelion said nothing more, quietly sipping his tea.
Being the Crown Prince meant more than just assisting the king.
There were endless banquets and formal meals with visitors—more so than before.
Ever since the official announcement of his position, nobles with eligible children had been eager to arrange marriages.
A nuisance, truly.
But he never let it show.
Today, too, Kaelion maintained his usual calm expression, welcoming the family of a powerful minister to a luncheon.
"I must say, Your Highness, you has grown up to be truly intelligent and handsome. It feels like only yesterday that I watched your birth parade."
"To be honest, it’s rather embarrassing to think back on those days—I was so young."
Such tiresome conversation.
They were obviously trying to curry favor, but talking about memories Kaelion himself couldn’t even recall was pointless.
Or perhaps they simply wanted to boast that they’d known him since infancy.
"To think, Your Highness was once so small—and now you’re already 280 years old, such a fine young man. It makes me feel old."
"Not at all. Minister, you’re still quite youthful yourself."
Please stop it already, Kaelion thought. Pass the baton to someone else.
The people below you can hardly keep up.
"My daughter recently passed 200, and we’re starting to look for a suitable match for her..."
Kaelion cast a brief glance at the young woman seated beside the minister.
She looked slightly embarrassed, with flaxen hair and a gentle demeanor.
Certainly, she seemed like a calm and pleasant person—but Kaelion felt no particular attraction toward her.
"She is a beautiful young lady. I’m sure she’ll find a fine match," he said politely.
"You truly think so?"
"Of course," he replied with a smile.
It’s just a social nicety—don’t pounce on it.
He let his eyes drift slightly behind him.
Standing in his usual place was Hassan, Kaelion’s personal guard, his expression as serious as ever, scanning the surroundings with focused discipline.
His crimson eyes never once glanced at Kaelion.
Boring.
Kaelion had hoped to catch a glimpse of his reaction to such a conversation, just for his own amusement.
"Does Your Highness have someone he cares for?" the minister inquired.
The question made Kaelion pause for a moment.
He glanced back—just slightly—before turning to the minister with a bright, cordial smile.
"There is someone who has caught my attention."
Behind him, a faint shift in presence.
That’ll do.
Without even looking directly at Hassan, Kaelion focused instead on the subtle disturbance in the air.
A small sign of unrest—clearly noticeable to him.
After the luncheon, Kaelion returned to his private chambers.
Hassan followed behin him silently, saying nothing since they’d left.
Once inside, Kaelion turned to face him—and found a downcast expression that gave him a certain sense of satisfaction.
"What’s wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing," Hassan replied.
"Are you surprised to hear that I have someone I care for?"
