Chapter 390

2-in-1 chapter:

-----------------

Seeing the man who suddenly pushed the door open, Ichigo was a little surprised.

Who comes to see a doctor looking this energetic?

From the looks of it, this guy seemed healthier than he was.

But still, he couldn’t judge too hastily—maybe the man had an illness without obvious symptoms…

He looked up, coughed deliberately, and said:

“Sorry, sir. The old co—cough, I mean, the doctor isn’t in right now. If it’s urgent, you can visit Ishida Clinic. It’s not far from here.”

Upon hearing that, the man raised an eyebrow.

“The doctor isn’t in?”

“Heh, no problem at all!”

“A doctor—is not some inconvenient object!”

“Young man, you shall examine me in his place!”

As he said this, the man walked in with a grin, swaggered to a chair, and sat down heavily.

Then he slapped his chest:

“Go ahead, examine me!”

“……”

Young Ichigo twitched at the corner of his eye.

He was dealing with a weirdo.

Though he really wanted to complain, this was still his family’s clinic. He couldn’t be rude to a guest.

He closed his eyes, shook his head helplessly, and prepared to explain that he was just a kid, unqualified to practice medicine.

But the moment he opened his eyes, he found that the man had somehow gotten right in front of him.

“Wah!!”

Ichigo jumped, instinctively taking a few steps back.

Under his stunned gaze, the man crouched on the floor, staring at him with a strangely eerie smile.

“Looks like you don’t want to examine me?”

“I…”

“Hmph, no matter. I understand. A new doctor, facing an unknown condition, instinctively relying on authority—it’s a common phenomenon in the medical world.”

“But this is a clinic, after all. If you won’t examine me, then let me examine you instead!”

Ichigo felt a chill run down his spine.

This guy—was he a lunatic?

A flood of thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant.

He had to escape… and lead this man out of the house! That was the only way to protect his sisters.

If a conflict broke out here and his sisters heard the commotion, they might come out—and then it would be dangerous.

Despite being so young, Ichigo already displayed an exceptional calmness in the face of danger.

Just as he prepared to act, the man suddenly said:

“Young man, can you see things that ordinary people cannot?”

“For example… souls?”

At those words, Ichigo’s eyes widened in shock.

He looked at the man, waves of turmoil rising in his heart.

“How do you…”

Only his dad knew he could see spirits.

His two sisters knew too, but they were still too young to really understand, let alone tell others.

“How do I know?”

The man crossed his arms, a smug expression on his face:

“Because I am the culmination of the world’s wisdom, master of the heavens above and the earth below!”

“All the secrets of this world are powerless before my astounding intellect!”

As he spoke, he somehow ended up standing on the chair’s backrest, his feet planted on the seat.

Anyone else would have fallen by now—but he sat there perfectly steady.

Looking down at Ichigo, he adopted a mysterious pose and spoke slowly:

“Young man, your condition is already very severe.”

“…Very severe?”

“Yes, very very severe.”

The man nodded.

“There is a power inside you, brewing and forming.”

“That power… is called ‘Reiryoku’—spiritual energy!”

“It’s because of this Reiryoku that you can see what others cannot.”

Ichigo blinked.

Reiryoku…

It sounded bizarre, but he had to admit—it kind of made sense.

And the man continued:

“Normally, having Reiryoku isn’t a bad thing. It’s like being able to bend your thumb backward or roll your tongue—just another kind of talent. Only, compared to those ordinary traits, Reiryoku is far more rare.”

“The problem is, your Reiryoku is too strong.”

“If it continues to grow unchecked, one day your body won’t be able to contain it. You’ll become a walking spiritual pressure bomb and blow everything around you to pieces!”

Ichigo furrowed his brows slightly.

Turn into… a bomb?

The man interlocked his fingers, resting his chin on the backs of his hands, and smiled:

“Of course, I can tell at a glance—you’re a brave child. Maybe you’re not afraid of that.”

“But don’t forget—when you explode, there’s a high chance your parents and sisters will be nearby.”

“What happens then… is something worth imagining, isn’t it?”

Ichigo’s pupils shrank.

“You… what are you saying?!”

His eyes went wide as he shouted instinctively.

Killing Mom and Dad, Yuzu, and Karin because of him… That was unthinkable!

After a moment of panic, Ichigo suddenly realized something:

“Wait—what makes you think you’re right?!”

“What makes me right?”

The man raised a corner of his mouth, lifted one hand, and snapped his fingers.

With that motion, dozens of glowing lattices suddenly appeared in the air.

Under Ichigo’s stunned gaze, the lattices flew forward and instantly slipped between his limbs and torso, locking him in place.

Feeling the power from the glowing lattice, Ichigo instantly understood.

This energy—it really did feel like the power inside him…

Though slightly different, it was fundamentally the same!

He turned his head with some effort, looking at the man sitting on the chair.

“Who… are you?”

At that, the man grinned widely:

“I am a traveler from another world, a watcher of realms, a shooting star across the Three Worlds, the master of paradise…”

“My name is Kaelith!”

.

Under the night sky, young Ichigo quietly climbed out of the window and left his home.

He made his way through the streets of Karakura Town until he arrived at the foot of a mountain.

From afar, he could see the man standing there with his back to him.

“…Mr. Kaelith?”

He called out cautiously.

Even though he could see spirits, he was still just an eight-year-old boy. Seeing a lunatic standing alone at night was pretty scary.

Hearing his voice, the man nodded:

“Very good. A teachable child.”

“So, you deciphered the secret code I gave before I left.”

“…Secret code?”

Ichigo looked confused.

He recalled what happened when that guy left earlier.

After showing him the power of spiritual pressure, Kaelith had patted his head three times—so hard he saw stars.

Then, with his hands behind his back, he walked off, saying:

“Tonight at 3 a.m., come to the western foothills. I’ll teach you the art of eternal life!”

Ichigo didn’t know what the guy’s deal was, but those glowing restraints were no joke.

To understand his own powers, he felt he had to come see what the man was trying to do.

Kaelith turned his head:

“I knocked on your head three times and left with hands behind my back. That meant: come to the back mountain of Karakura Town at 3 a.m.”

“This is advanced reasoning. For someone your age to decipher it—what extraordinary potential!”

Ichigo blinked, puzzled:

“Didn’t you say out loud to come at 3 a.m.?”

“Hmm, just a reference answer. If I hadn’t told you, and you didn’t figure it out, I’d have been waiting here all night for nothing, right?”

“……”

Ichigo took a deep breath.

Though still so young, he had already tasted what it meant to have high blood pressure.

Suppressing the urge to retort, he looked at Kaelith:

“Mr. Kaelith, you said you could teach me how to control the power inside me.”

“I have a question I’d like to ask you about that.”

“Mm, go ahead and ask. Answering the inheritor’s questions is part of the inheritor’s duty.”

Kaelith nodded.

Ichigo thought for a few seconds, then said:

“I want to know—why are you helping me?”

“What happens to me, or what happens to my family, those things shouldn’t have anything to do with you, right?”

At that, Kaelith looked slightly surprised.

“You little brat… are you really eight years old? That’s a pretty mature question.”

After a moment, he added:

“Of course, nowhere near as mature as I am!”

At Kaelith’s comment, Ichigo looked slightly smug.

In truth, this kind of event had happened in one of the popular LSP games he played — he had picked up the perspective from them.

Never thought it’d actually come in handy in real life.

Under his gaze, Kaelith’s expression grew serious:

“Since you’re asking sincerely, I’ll tell you.”

“Ichigo, in this world, there are many dangers.”

“Horrifying monsters, evil spiritual beings, aliens disguised as humans…”

“These guys are constantly eyeing our Earth, always thinking of ways to destroy our peaceful lives!”

“To fight them, I formed a spiritual power organization.”

“The organization’s name is… uh… it’s called… the Justice League!”

“We of the Justice League, our mission is to fight these invaders, to protect the people around us, to protect the Earth we love!”

“To strengthen the organization, to cultivate more outstanding combat strength, that’s why I came to find you.”

“Ichigo, you have a talent far beyond what ordinary people can imagine. One day, you’ll become an exceptional spiritualist.”

“Once you have enough strength, when you’ve earned the qualifications, you can join the Justice League and become one of the core members like me!”

Ichigo: “……”

Never mind whether the rest is true or not.

This organization name—it was definitely made up on the spot, wasn’t it?!

It totally was, right?!

Forcing himself not to complain again, he asked:

“Then, how many members does our organization have now?”

Kaelith looked up, thinking for quite a while.

Then, with a confident smile, he looked at Ichigo:

“Counting you—who will definitely become an official member in the future—we have two people.”

“This organization’s clearly just been made, hasn’t it?!”

Ah, crap.

He blurted it out after all.

Ichigo’s expression was complicated, feeling like he’d just been hit with Komamura-level emotional damage.

Though he was speechless toward this man called Kaelith, considering the unstable spiritual power in his body that could explode and hurt his family at any time, Ichigo still chose to learn from him.

Seeing Ichigo agree, Kaelith nodded with satisfaction.

Then, under Ichigo’s stunned gaze, a flash of light shimmered from Kaelith’s body as he split into two.

In front—Kaelith wearing a black kimono, white haori, and sword at his waist.

Behind—his original body collapsing to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut, completely lifeless.

What the heck was going on?

Looking carefully at the new Kaelith that had emerged, Ichigo suddenly exclaimed.

A soul…

This guy had somehow separated his soul from his body!

How could that even be possible…?

The soul leaving the body—that’s basically death, right?

And that sword at his waist, what was that?

Before Ichigo could process it, Kaelith had already drawn his Zanpakutō.

“Wait—what are you doing?!”

Seeing Kaelith walking toward him with the long blade, Ichigo instinctively backed away.

Kaelith grinned, letting out a gentle chuckle:

“Kehehehe… I’m here to help you grow up~”

“Don’t worry, it hurts just a little at first, but it’ll be over soon.”

“It actually feels pretty good, you know!”

What kind of feeling?! You better mean power-control training!

Ichigo didn’t hesitate—he turned and tried to run.

But before he could take a step, he was forced down to the ground by a massive pressure.

As Kaelith laughed happily, sitting on his back, Ichigo nearly cried.

What the hell… what the hell is this!

Under his terrified gaze, Kaelith held the Zanpakutō in both hands and stabbed it right into his back—

Wearing his backpack, Ichigo walked home along the familiar road he had taken countless times.

After eating the dinner his mom made, he smiled.

“I’m full!”

He put his hands together and recited the customary phrase, set down his chopsticks, and went to do his homework.

After finishing, he called out to Kurosaki Masaki:

“Mom, I’m going to hang out with Mizuiro and the others!”

“Alright, be careful~”

Masaki waved her hand with a gentle smile.

Leaving the house, Ichigo passed through a few streets.

After confirming no one was following him, he started running.

Before long, he reached the wooded hill behind Karakura Town.

From afar, he could see someone sitting under the shade of a tree playing video games.

Seeing this, Ichigo looked speechless.

A grown man, still this obsessed with games—he didn’t even have half the self-discipline Ichigo did.

He snorted, activated his power.

Pop—his soul separated cleanly from his body.

Lifting his hand, he grabbed from his back a massive broadsword that looked oversized for his small frame.

Then, with a heavy stomp, he vanished from the air.

Using Shunpo, he appeared in front of Kaelith and swung hard—

“Take this!!”

Even faster than Ichigo was Kaelith’s LSP, which he suddenly swung out.

The game console hit Ichigo in the stomach with a dull thud.

Ichigo was sent flying, crashing into the distant forest, stirring up a huge cloud of dust.

Watching him fly away, Kaelith grinned.

No wonder Yamamoto used to love hitting him so much.

It really was satisfying to bully your disciple!
